Well, that wasnât entirely unexpected, but it happened faster than he thought it would. Federico tensed immediately, arm flexing to keep a hold on his phone when fingers wrapped around it. He leaned closer, eyes brightening in mischief. It wasnât the kind of particular attention he was going for, but maybe Vieri would back down if Federico tried to kiss him right then. He should. He really should just smooch him and then make a run for it because Vieri would chase him and Federico enjoyed that type of thrill.
Insteadâsince they were banned from enough restaurants for reasons that were completely fair and indisputable and mostly involving numerous broken itemsâFederico lowered his voice and said smugly. âDidnât take long for you to want my attention, did it?âÂ
Oh, how he hated that look! Whenever the bastard made that kind of expression, nothing good came of it. Vieriâs jaw tensed as he remained where he was. He didnât want Federico to do something stupid, but he also didnât want to back down at the same time. After all, backing down and moving away meant that heâd lost and surrendered to the damned Auditore. He couldnât bare the thought! Ignoring, of course, that Federico was generally someone that he couldnât seem to top.
His fingers tightened over the phone, and he hoped that hurt the prickâs hand too. âYouâre lucky,â he hissed in a whisper, âI donât kill you. Give me the phone now and I wonât break it.â Well, maybe.
Wait. He forgot something. âAnd I donât want your attention!â Yeah, take that and choke on it.
Vieri needed to learn that a relationship wasnât about winning or losing. It was about having fun and enjoying being around who you were with. Unfortunately, Vieri was domineering and competitive, and that reared up Federicoâs uncontrollable desire to be a pain in the ass just to ruffle feathers. Â So, technically, it was all Vieriâs fault anything went wrong.
Federicoâs expression didnât waver, despite how much his fingers were being so thoughtlessly crushed. âYou just want my phone, I know.â He nodded obnoxiously, not addressing the threats and demands. âThere are many pictures of myself on there. You could just ask me to send them to you instead of playing hard to get.â
It was almost as if Federico liked to irritate Vieri more than he liked to have a quiet meal, and Vieri should be flattered at that.
