Popularly, the Gemini sign is seen as bipolar; its natives are characterized as dual. Modern (Western) astrology believes that this sign is represented by two identical figures, twin brothers. When I was a follower of tropical astrology, I heard an explanation for why Geminis carried this dual characteristic: it has to do with two twin brothers where one dies and the other goes to the underworld and asks to switch places with his brother (some versions say that the brother asks for his brother to return to life). The lord of the underworld accepts on the following condition: while your brother is back, you stay, and vice versa. This is how the energy of Gemini is explained.
In Jyotish, the duality of Gemini is something much deeper, involving energies and tantra. Gemini in hinduism is Mithuna, which comes from Maithuna. Maithuna/Mithuna is a sanskrit term representing a sexual union ritual. I won't post images here due to Tumblr's policy, but when searching for images of Mithuna on Google, you'll come across pictures of statues of a man and a woman in erotic poses.
Mithuna is a representation of a man and a woman, side by side, each touching the other's genitals. They are not engaging in sexual intercourse, there is no penetration, but they are in contact with regions that carry the symbolism of the primordial energy of both man and woman. Therefore, Mithuna (Gemini) is the representation of the symbiosis between masculine and feminine energy.
Gemini is dual because it carries two energies: masculine and feminine. Regardless of gender, Gemini natives are able to be expansive because they possess both energies. Living in a society where they have to choose a side is a big problem for Geminis. Gemini is not dual to the point of separation, but rather of integration, and that is why natives are indecisive and do not make quick decisions: they don't want to choose between one or the other, they want both, they want everything.
I previously spoke about the Ardra nakshatra and its rebellious nature, but I believe that Gemini in general carries this rebellious air, of being different and not fitting into a social pattern due to the integration of two opposing energies, the feminine and the masculine. Their worldview is not separated between what is feminine and what is masculine since they possess this natural integration. Gemini women, for example, usually exhibit tomboyish characteristics from childhood, or dislike girly games like playing house.
Mithuna is the perfect symbiosis between masculine and feminine energy; they possess the ability to understand the difference between the two sides and become indecisive when choosing only one. I believe it's a mistake to describe Gemini as dual because even when they choose a side, they don't remain faithful to their choice and keep fluctuating, leading others to describe them as deceitful. Gemini unites, it doesn't separate. It is symbiosis of duality, not separation.
Their dual nature, between feminine and masculine, is reflected in their appearance. It is described that those born under the sign of Gemini typically possess androgynous characteristics, which is a blend of masculine and feminine physical traits resulting in an ethereal appearance.
Ardra, the sixth Vedic nakshatra, is ruled by Rudra, the fierce form of Shiva, and symbolized by a tear representing moisture, destruction, and profound renewal. Its rebellious nature stems from the essence of storm — torrential rains that cleanse the old to make way for the new — giving natives an emotional intensity that defies social conventions and rigid norms.
Ardra, being the sixth Nakshatra within the 27 lunar constellations of Vedic astrology, occupies the sidereal space between 6°40′ and 20° of Gemini, and is identified with the star Betelgeuse, a red supergiant in the constellation of Orion, whose intense light and color attract attention in the night sky—a perfect symbol for the fiery and unsettling nature of this Nakshatra. The name Ardra itself means "moist," "wet," or associated with the element of water, which may seem paradoxical for such a tormenting influence, but this "moisture" represents deep emotions, tears, intense purification, and the visceral state that precedes the inner and outer storm.
Ardra's ruling planet is Rahu, the North Node of the Moon, which in Vedic astrology is not a physical planet, but an astrological entity symbolizing strong desires, intense experiences, and that which pushes consciousness beyond its comfort zones. Rahu bestows upon Ardra an energy of relentless curiosity and a desire to break with imposed patterns, an impulse for extraordinary experiences and direct confrontations with the unknown, the forbidden, and that which provokes shock or profound emotional disturbance. This Rahuian influence transforms the native into someone who often does not easily adjust to social norms or family and cultural expectations, as their evolutionary learning happens precisely through the breaking of paradigms and exposure to inner shadows.
The ruling deity of this Nakshatra is Rudra, a fierce form of Shiva, the destroyer in the Hindu Trimurti, symbolizing primordial forces of storm, pain, lightning, and wind that not only dismantle structures but also cleanse and prepare the ground for a new beginning. Rudra's presence connects the individual with this energy to a life process where dismantling the old and confronting emotional suffering are not mere obstacles but essential mechanisms for psychological and spiritual evolution. This energy can express itself as a form of rebellion that seeks not only to challenge for the sake of rebellion but is a visceral reaction to emotional superficiality, falsehood, and stagnation.Rudra, a fierce aspect of Shiva, represents storms, pain, creative destruction, and healing through direct confrontation with illusion. Rudra doesn't destroy out of cruelty, but as an architect of transformation: he dismantles what is false to reveal what is essential. This energy is difficult to integrate into a personality that seeks a "comfort zone." Instead, Rudra pushes the person to experience their own shadow, that is, the emotional side that resists change, that harbors traumas, and that often hides behind rationalizations or routines. Facing this shadow is part of the evolutionary process of this Nakshatra, and this is one of the reasons why many natives may seem rebellious, provocative, or defiant of norms—because, deep down, they feel a visceral need to break with illusions and socially accepted truths to reach a deeper form of authenticity.
The traditional symbol of Ardra is the teardrop, and it also appears as a diamond formed under extreme pressure—both images with great symbolic power. The teardrop is not only an expression of sadness, but of liberation, catharsis, and emotional purification through the recognition of profound suffering, while the diamond is the product of extreme compression: carbon subjected to heat and pressure becomes one of the hardest substances on Earth. This is essential to understanding Ardrian psychodynamics: the person under this Nakshatra often experiences moments of great emotional intensity before developing inner strength and resilience, and their rebelliousness is not simply antisocial, but an internal disruptive force that reflects a need to live and express the rawest and most primal truth of their emotional experience.
In terms of behavior, the combination of Rahu + Rudra + the tear symbol manifests as a personality marked by profound emotions, intense thoughts, a highly analytical mind, and, at the same time, a heart that feels with a depth that can often seem overwhelming. These people often go through phases of emotional turbulence throughout their lives—sometimes painful, other times generating profound clarity—and tend to develop a unique ability to perceive psychological nuances that escape most people. In many cases, these intense emotional experiences translate into a critical view of reality, a perspective that focuses on contradictions and injustices, and a tendency to question established norms, social standards, and the expectations of others. This emotional and mental intensity creates an ambiguous relationship with life itself: there is a constant search for meaning, for profound truth, for authenticity above conventions, which often leads the Ardraian individual to break with stable structures and seek non-traditional paths, something that may be perceived by others as rebellion, impulsiveness, or even defiant behavior. On the dark side of this energy, there may be self-destructive impulses, escapist habits (such as substance use or self-sabotaging behaviors), or patterns of repetitive conflict until the person learns to channel this inner force in a creative and constructive way.
The tension of this Nakshatra can also manifest as genuine rebellion and nonconformity, not as a pose or gratuitous provocation, but as an expression of an inner need to experience truth without filters. This nonconformity can cause ruptures in relationships, work, and social structures because the individual with strong Ardra values authenticity above apparent stability. While many seek to avoid pain and maintain the appearance of control, the Ardra native often learns—often through real crises—that pain is a sign that something essential needs to be seen, felt, and integrated. This Nakshatra also suggests a rare type of emotional courage: it doesn't shy away from experiences others would avoid, and this can lead to the person being seen as intense, dramatic, or unpredictable by those more comfortable with routines and emotional superficiality. Ardrian intensity isn't theatrics: it's a commitment to inner truth, even when that truth demands sacrifice, confrontation, or profound discomfort. Therefore, this Nakshatra is often associated with individuals who end up serving as agents of change, emotional healers, researchers of the human psyche, or social and spiritual innovators—people who have learned to transform shock into knowledge and turbulence into growth.
From a psychological standpoint, Ardra brings a capacity for deep reflection and intense empathy, but also a tendency towards sudden mood swings, intense questioning, and internal conflicts between the desire to belong and the impulse for independence. Rahu's influence can create a sense of "outsider"—someone who feels their inner truth differs from socially accepted truths—and this amplifies a rebellious spirit in lifestyle, decision-making, and how these individuals deal with authority and traditions. The life lessons of an Ardra native often revolve around accepting that emotional pain and breaking patterns are instruments of profound growth, and that their evolutionary mission involves transforming these shocks into wisdom, clarity, and genuine compassion.
Books like Dennis M. Harness's The Nakshatras: The Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology, explore how each nakshatra, including Ardra, possesses a specific energy that "tones" a person's emotional and psychological life when the Moon or other planets occupy that sector—describing Ardra as a space of struggle, profound insight, motivation to grow through difficulty, and the ability to absorb and filter intense experiences to generate inner strength. The literature emphasizes that while the Ardrian trajectory is seen by many as difficult or "turbulent," its true nature is transformative: adversity is not an end, but a gateway to a stronger, more conscious, and truer version of oneself.
Regardless of their level of beauty these natives will have the ability to fascinate others. There is usually something both unusual and magnetic about them. Like the bad boy in high school that all the girls are attracted to even though he’s not very attractive. They are capable of being sexy, or pretty or ordinary; they can take on whatever role they think will get them what they want. But it’s usually going to be about what they want; they can’t stand to be controlled by others. The follow the law of the jungle whether it’s downtown, in the corporate office, or in nature away from civilisation and domesticity. Relationships typically suffer since what’s the point if you don’t really want to settle down. There might be excessive focus on the details. With every little detail in focus it can be beneficial for them to have a broader minded partner; someone who can help them see a little bit more of the world as well as the bigger picture generally. — Mike Sleeping Dog.
Ardra possesses a kind of magnetism that doesn't depend on "being beautiful" or "being the most beautiful in the place," because what Ardra carries is a field of fascination, an energy that draws the eyes of others as if something "dangerous" and "different" were happening there. And this perfectly matches Ardra's signature: Rahu ruling, Rudra as a deity, Betelgeuse as a star. In other words: a mixture of strangeness, intensity, and psychological seduction. When MSD says that relationships suffer because “what’s the point if you don’t want to settle down,” he’s describing Ardra’s central dilemma: Ardra desires connection but fears confinement. Ardra wants intensity but hates routine. Ardra wants love but rejects possession. Ardra wants someone but wants to remain free. And this makes Ardra embody that archetype of the “fascinating but difficult.” The person may be very attractive, highly desirable, but may have an energy of: “don’t try to tame me.”
Ardra can be hyperfocused, obsessive, and fixated. This is also very consistent with the mental side of Gemini combined with the obsessive side of Rahu. Ardra can get caught up in micro-details—words, signs, small inconsistencies, small changes in behavior—and this can turn into both genius and paranoia. That's why Mike says it helps to have a more "broad-minded" partner, because Ardra needs someone who brings perspective and horizon, otherwise he enters a mental tunnel.
Ardra Nakshatra represents a journey of radical emotional learning, where rebellion, intensity, restlessness, and questioning are not character flaws, but rather mechanisms of evolution. Where others may seek innocuousness, the Ardraian seeks depth—and this search is both their challenge and their gift. Thus, the lifestyle and behavior characteristic of Ardra Nakshatra cannot be reduced to mere superficial “rebellion”: they emerge from a complex synthesis of emotional intensity, sharp thinking, a deep desire for authenticity, and a constant need to transform one's own reality through the direct experience of chaos, pain, and emotional truth. This is why, in classic texts such as The Nakshatras and in modern descriptions, Ardra is frequently associated with intense themes such as suffering, clarity through pain, ambition, a desire to break patterns, and a continuous search for meaning—an inner alchemy of storm and renewal that makes its rebellious style something deeply connected to personal evolution and the authentic expression of the self.
In this post, I mentioned that Uttara Ashada is a nakshatra linked to smoking, which generated a controversy where people said they are from this nakshatras and do not smoke - they never felt like it, and others saying they know people from Uttara Ashada who do not smoke.
Smoking is common, right? And a person's choice to smoke or not to smoke is not foreseen in the person's chart. Having Uttara Ashadha does not mean that you will be a smoker, and I did not say that. I mentioned that "many smoke" and not "everyone smokes." This observation is not just personal.
When studying nakshatras, astrologers point out this connection with Uttara Ashadha with tobacco and therefore they can be led to addiction, it is a symbolism for them. Just like Vishakha and its relationship with alcohol and Ashlesha - amazingly - has links with various types of "poisons" (the author of the work I read alludes to drugs as "poison"). In my experience, people from Uttara Ashadha smoke. And they smoke from an early age. They chose to do so. We don't know what causes them to choose smoking, but it happens. Talking to a friend of mine, who has a friend with stellium in Uttara Ashadha, she reported that she smoked a lot and that she tried to quit smoking and couldn't. Some artists with this nakshatra suffer from nicotine or marijuana addiction. Not to mention my family members who smoke and are Uttara Ashadha, which only proved that what I learned was true. In a conversation on twitter, a @ said he was addicted to smoking and I asked if he had a position in Uttara Ashada, and he said he had two planets there and I explained to him the connection of Uttara Ashadha and smoking addiction, but he preferred not to believe it.
One of the recommendations for those who have any positioning in Uttara Ashadha in the 10th house, for example, is to not smoke (cigarettes, marijuana, vapes...) due to its high degree of addiction and can lead to very serious health problems. I had this example at home, where my mother (Lagna, Jupiter and Saturn in AU) smoked since pre-adolescence and in her early 20s went to the doctor for a health problem and was advised to "cut down" on cigarette consumption. Instead of following the doctor's recommendation, she decided to quit smoking and never smoke again.
If you didn't know, now you know. But don't get it into your head that being from Uttara Ashadha is being a smoker, that's not it, that's not how astrology works — and you should already be aware of that. We are not just 1, 2, 3 nakshatras, we have 9 grahas, aspects, yoga, 9 planets shaping our behavior and worldview. Your moon (or sun or ascendant) will not determine your life decisions alone. Not to mention that there are several external factors that also shape you, such as culture, lifestyle and everything else.
I knew it was going to be controversial and so I took every precaution in mentioning this fact. So please be very careful when reading this.
Magha Woman: The Lonely Warrior against Patriarchy
The throne of Magha is not given, it is remembered. Those born under this constellation carry an invisible calling, an ancient yearning for an authority that was never truly granted in this life – but that pulses deep within the soul. The woman of Magha is born a queen without a kingdom, a priestess without a temple, a warrior without an army. And yet she does not bow.

Magha Nakshatra is ruled by the Pitris — the “Ancestral Fathers,” spirits of those who lived before us. They are not gods like Vishnu or Shiva, but ethereal presences who uphold tradition, lineage, and sacred order. They watch over rituals, preserve the sacred heritage of the social structure — not in terms of progress, but of continuity. This connection with the Pitris brings a unique spiritual mark. Those born under Magha are bound to ancient family karma — a web of inherited commitments, vows, and glories. There’s an invisible debt to the dead, to those who came before. In Vedic tradition, this debt is repaid through honor, service, and maintenance of the social order. But the problem is: this structure was never made to house feminine power. Magha is the Nakshatra of the seat of power, the throne, legacy. It speaks of the highest place one can reach — but that place is guarded by the names, rules, and forefathers of a masculine lineage. In patriarchal cultures, the throne is the father, the husband, the king. The Magha woman is born, then, as an intruder in this space — or worse, as an invisible figure, whose power is only acknowledged when mediated by a man.
Magha means “the mighty,” “the magnificent.” It is one of the Nakshatras most traditionally associated with authority, status, honor, and ancestral legacy. Its symbol is the royal throne — a sign of the right to rule, to command, to preserve the established order. Here lies the tension for women: this throne has, for centuries, been reserved only for men. Women with the Moon or personal planets (or Atmakaraka) in Magha are natural leaders — proud, charismatic, and often feel isolated in their strength. There’s a deep sense of carrying out a familial or ancestral mission — but rarely is there any recognition for it. In patriarchy, the Magha woman becomes a threat: she questions the role of tradition (Pitris) without necessarily rejecting it; she possesses inherent authority that was not "granted" but spiritually inherited. Her radiance is seen as arrogance, her leadership as defiance. The throne of Magha was made for ruling, but the woman born with this energy must still earn the right to sit on it. She does so by confronting the patriarchy — not as a declared enemy, but as a forgotten heiress reclaiming what was taken from her.
The woman who carries Magha in her heart — whether through the Moon, Ascendant, Atmakaraka, or significant conjunction — is born with a deep sense of inner royalty. She knows she comes from a powerful spiritual lineage. But the world around her does not recognize this calling. Instead of a crown, she receives criticism. Instead of a throne, the domestic altar. Instead of glory, the duty of silence. The karma of this woman is to challenge this system — not out of empty rebellion, but out of awareness. She does not seek to destroy the past, but to transform it. She does not sever ties with her ancestors — she confronts them. The Magha woman must learn to be the living ancestor — the matriarch who builds a new tradition inside a house that once tried to erase her.
examples I posted on twitter/x about man with Mars in Magha vs. Magha woman.
Prash Trivedi, one of the deepest interpreters of the Nakshatras, describes Magha as the Nakshatra of the “priest-king” — an archetype that combines authority with spirituality. In women, this creates what he calls a “cultural dissonance”: they don’t know where they fit in. Many try to mold themselves into what’s expected — good wives, good mothers, quiet — but that social role tears at their core. Others become solitary, distanced from family, seen as strange or difficult. Komilla Sutton writes that the greatest challenge of Magha is finding expression for its authority in a world that fears powerful women. She notes that these natives tend to carry the weight of tradition, but are called to transcend its limitations. Often, they must forgo traditional marriage or redefine it completely. Bepin Behari reinforces the idea that Magha is the Nakshatra of the spiritual continuity of the soul and that individuals under it are "guardians of lineage." The Magha woman, then, doesn’t just live her own life — she continues an ancestral journey. This journey often involves breaking from patriarchal structures — not out of rebellion, but by destiny.
For the Magha woman, patriarchy is a distorted mirror of her own soul. She was made to reign — but placed to serve. And this imbalance causes not only external pain but also an internal war. That’s why many Magha women struggle with self-esteem, difficulty trusting others, or feelings of isolation. They feel forced to do everything alone, to constantly prove their worth, to endure betrayals and disloyalties without breaking. Patriarchy tries to reduce Magha to her reproductive function. But she is not just a mother — she is a matriarch. She is not here only to give birth — but to birth worlds, ideas, cultures. The great challenge is that her authority comes from within, not from outside. And in a system that only recognizes male and external power, the inner throne of the Magha woman becomes invisible.
The Magha woman is, in essence, a living ancestor in a young body. She carries in her bones the voices of the silenced women who came before. She was not born to obey — but to remember. And her journey is a solitary one, because the path of inner leadership has always been forbidden to women.
Her power is ancient. Her presence, real. Her struggle, spiritual.
She does not fight to assert herself.
She fights to remember who she is.
some answers about the thread. Women of Magha are powerful even though they are oppressed, there is no regret for having acted so courageously to face injustices but sadness for not having support.
Saturn Atmakaraka: Finding Light on the Path of Karma
"Saturn , has a tall and thin body, has yellow eyes and is airy (vata) in constituition; he has large teeth, is lazy and has coarse hair." Parashari 3.28-29
In Vedic astrology, the concept of AtmaKaraka is one of the most profound and revealing in the natal chart. The atmaKaraka, also known as the “soul indicator”, is the planet that bears the greatest responsibility for the individual’s spiritual journey. It represents the greatest challenges, lessons and the path that the soul must take in this life to achieve growth and fulfillment. The planet with the highest degree in any sign becomes the AtmaKaraka, “the significator of self” or “self-indicator”. This, as the lord of the Ascendant, can become the most powerful planet in your chart. It is the most important planet to consider when judging an individual’s spiritual nature, particularly in relation to its position in the ninth harmonic chart (navamsha). He provides us with a key to the aspirations of the soul. We often consider its position, such as the Ascendant, and read the chart indications accordingly.
This planet not only guides the purpose of life, but also indicates internal obstacles that a person needs to overcome to find their true identity. The AtmaKaraka position shows how we deal with our weaknesses, how we develop spiritually and where we should invest energy to evolve. The Atmakaraka carries the most important karmic lessons for this incarnation, becoming a key to understanding destiny and the soul’s inner motivations. Although there are many other important points in the birth chart, the Atma is special because it is a direct representation of the qualities that our soul has already mastered in past lives and those that still need to be worked on. Depending on which planet occupies this position, the nature of these lessons varies profoundly. AK influences how we approach challenges in different areas of life, right down to our spiritual worldview.
Saturn is traditionally the most difficult of the major planets, the legendary king of the malefics, that's why Saturn Atmakaraka is the most challenging. He often faces challenges in life, especially in the areas of work, health and relationships. Saturn is the significator of life itself. It indicates fate, term of life, longevity. A strong Saturn protects the life. Saturn is the planet to be propitiated in old age. He indicates the regime necessary for full life and longevity, violating which we suffer from premature decay and death. Though Saturn possesses a higher and more beneficent side, at least from the standpoint of the spiritual life, even this is stern and exacting, hard to live up to and to endure, a power of discipline, asceticism and solitude.
Saturn brings limitation and obstruction, hindrance in self-expression and in self-manifestation, which may become oppression and adversity. He is also known for being the God of Death, while Jupiter is a kind God. As Jupiter is the God of joy, he is the God of sorrow. Saturn is the significator of disease, old age and death; the great enemies of human life, which overcome all life bound by time. Therefore, the placement of Saturn in Atmakaraka is the ultimate issue of our life and destiny, the hard facts or the harsh reality that we must face. Because Saturn in the Atmakaraka indicates that the person may feel that his or her life is too tied to issues of responsibility, the need to make sacrifices or deal with pain and suffering in a constructive way. Here, destiny does not present itself easily or immediately, but is forged with perseverance, patience and facing the harshness of reality. For those with Saturn Atmakaraka, reality may seem harsher and so they may become depressed in the face of it. They refuse to give in to destruction but destruction is the necessary counterpart for creation, as is decay and death required for new life and growth.
Saturn gives bad luck, misfortune, difficult karma. It is the planet of bad karma or unhappy destiny. However, these may come upon a soul not because it has been bad or slow to evolve in past lives. Some souls, particularly those who are more advanced, may seek such things as a means of faster and deeper spiritual growth in life. Anyone can turn to the Divine in prosperity, but who can do so in great adversity? Such is the measure of a great soul. Saturn is also the suffering that makes us grow inwardly.
The influence of Saturn is to delay, to hold back. As the slowest of the planets, he slows things down, holds back their development. Those retarded in mind or speech are often under the strong affliction of Saturn. He makes us deaf and blind, stunted or deformed.
Saturn is the significator of old age, the God of time, who brings on all the degenerative processes of aging, the failure of our faculties and our powers. To the such a badly placed Saturn causes premature aging. Saturn takes away our vitality, on a physical or on a mental level. He causes depression, melancholy, self-pity and gives rise to worry, fear and anxiety. As a nervous planet, Saturn obstructs nerve functioning. He may cause numbness, paralysis or degenerative neurological disorders. His obstructing and repressing influence on the mind may promote neurosis or insanity. Saturn is behind most diseases, particularly chronic, degenerative diseases, diseases of old age, including arthritis and Cancer. As representing decay he can cause an accumulation of waste materials in the body and often is a point of devitalization in the chart.
As the planet of the ego, Saturn is also the planet of fear, on which the ego is based. Saturn creates fear and darkness in the mind. It makes us feel that we cannot overcome things, that life is against us. It makes us doubt ourselves, doubt even the Divine, and makes us prey to dark fears, fantasies, and phobias.
Saturn Devouring His Son is a painting by Spanish artist Francisco Goya. It is traditionally considered a depiction of the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus, whom the Romans called Saturn, eating one of his children out of fear of a prophecy by Gaea that one of his children would overthrow him.
Saturn is the God who eats his own children, who devours his own progeny. He raises people up, but eventually brings them down in a very precipitous fall. Those who are under the spell of their basic values will eventually be destroyed by them. He shows falsehood for what it is, in which there is the revelation of the enduring value of truth.
Saturn is not only in many ways the lowest of the planets, it is also the highest. Its lesson is the most difficult, but the most rewarding. Saturn is the grandfather spirit and lawgiver, our guiding ancestor. He represents not only the negative influence of the past that constrains us, he represents the positive spirit of the past that brings order and consistency to our lives. Saturn in Hindu mythology is the son of the Sun. The Sun moves in a chariot driven by Saturn. Saturn is the darkness, death and sadness that we must overcome for the revelation of the true light. He is the guardian of the mysteries of truth - which is possible only through a very precise and demanding cultivation of attention. Saturn is the yogi in meditation. He can give complete detachment and independence. He is the one who stands alone and goes beyond the limitations of the masses. It shows the path of transcendence, though necessarily difficult, by which all limitations can be overcome by resorting to our true and unlimited Self. In this respect, the power of Shiva, the lord of the yogis, the god of death and transcendence, can work through Saturn.
Saturn in the Atmakaraka places the individual on a path of self-improvement, where life experiences often involve long periods of effort without immediate rewards. The soul, in this case, seeks fulfillment that can only be achieved through discipline and acceptance of limitations, whether in relation to external issues (such as social responsibility, work and professional life) or internal issues (such as overcoming fears, insecurities and deep psychological issues).
Saturn here forces the person to face reality as it is, without illusions or escapes, leading the soul to mature and become more aware of the responsibilities it carries, whether in terms of individual karma or in relation to the collective. Life may seem like a constant search for stability, security and structure, but at the same time, Saturn demands patience to accept that the fruits of this search will not come immediately. Therefore, Saturn in the Atmakaraka is a position that brings depth and intensity to the spiritual and personal journey, challenging the individual to find greater meaning through experiencing the harshness of life, while working tirelessly to build something lasting, grounded and realistic.

Bharani Nakshatra and Fertility: The Cycle of Life under the rule of Venus
port-br
When watching films or plays that take place in the Middle Ages, you notice that some of them have the figure of the “herald”, those messengers who arrive at the location and open the letter (which looks like a parchment) and read the message aloud. The Heralds carried announcements and messages from the kingdom to the population, made solemn proclamations, verified titles of nobility, announced war and proclaimed peace. They were a preform of diplomacy. When they were going to announce something to the people, they would stand on a platform in the middle of the public square and shout the real news, usually wearing clothes that differentiated them to attract more attention.
Bharani Nakshatra (Aries 13º20' - 26º40') are the heralds of the energy of Venus, as they act as messengers or representatives of the essence of Venus in the world, carrying Venusian qualities, manifesting them in their lives and behavior. Venus is advocacy, seeks equity and is a peacemaker, devoid of aggression, but when it joins Mars, aggression and anger can be used as a tool of diplomacy (description by mike sleeping dog). In the eyes of Vedic elders, the star of this nakshatra forms the female sexual organ and thus became its symbol. This organ symbolizes the fertility aspect of life and a portal between two different worlds. In the Vedic point of view, it is described as death and birth, transformation and regeneration. It also represents restriction, care, jealousy, sacrifice, sexuality, nurturing and maternal love. Bharani carries all these attributes. It is the star of restriction that has the power to cleanse and remove impurities.
The main deity of Bharani is Yama, the god of death. Yama had a twin sister named Yami, who is considered the lady of life. Yama and Yami are a divine pair of creative deities. Yama is what connects mortality and immortality that carves mortal paths through death. In it is time and through time it describes a course for life, after the course life is absorbed into time. Yami is moved by Maya's emotions and love. Yama is mortal, but Yami is not. The procreation of mortals was granted thanks to the sacrifice that Yama made in annihilating himself, thus creating a debt (cyclic yajña). Through debt, exchange is created, and it is through exchange that the world moves forward.
There is a story that Yami fell in love with her brother Yama and wanted to have sex with him, arguing that this would not break dharma. She wished Yama to induce the embryo in her womb. It was a natural instinct that awakened in her mind and body after she reached puberty.
"She offered many arguments as to why this would not break dharma, but he knew that sexual intercourse with his own sister would go against dharma in the mortal world, where every action provokes a seen or unseen reaction. His reward for such self-control was to become chief justice of the universe." - Mike Sleeping Dog.
Bharani is a 16-year-old girl about to deflower, a baby in the womb or a person who faces the Yamadutas (heavenly angels whose task is to guide souls in the afterlife process) after death. Because of its childlike quality, Bharani is one of the most eager nakshatras. Just like a child wants to experience the entire environment, Bharani natives want to experience the environment to the fullest. There is a primal innocence in the way they experience things, people and places. They may go by instinct instead of reason. Most of your feelings and desires are so overwhelming that very little can be done to contain or calm them. Once again, the evolutionary status of the soul in question comes into play. All Bharani natives have a creative impulse within them. Females generally express this creativity through bearing children, while males attempt to be creative on stranger levels. Bharani is a nakshatra where interaction between man and woman takes place. This makes it one of the most sexual nakshatras in the zodiac. Bharani is representative of the force of nature that creates attraction between opposites. Bharani natives experiment, surrender, become victims and try to understand this force.
Bharani is the nakshatra that belongs to the first sign of the zodiac and is the first nakshatra ruled by Venus, this symbolizes the entry of the initial energy of creative feminine energy into the zodiac. Therefore, it is a feminine nakshatra. This is no longer a surprise, as Bharani represents everything feminine. It is the second nakshatra and the first female nakshatra. Just like the number “2” in numerology, it is the initiator of the feminine principle at all levels of existence. It is the beginning of duality and maya, and in it lies the essence of the complex functioning of the feminine principle. Bharani is considered a balanced nakshatra. Bharani is actually an extreme nakshatra, but it is classified as 'Balanced' due to its tendency to balance opposite extremes like birth and death. Bharani natives often lead double lives, reaching two different extremes. So, overall, their lives can be seen as balance. It is part of the Rajas Nakshatras (rajas is action to get desires fulfilled. It is the passion that drives one to action, often not getting the expected results, which leads to more actions), this can be easily accessed from the govt. of Bharani by Venus. Venus is seen as the most rajasic among the planets. Its relationship with terrestrial life processes is very strong. In a way, you could say that it is only Venus that makes life worth living. As Bharani heralds Venusian energy, its expression here is primordial, highly concentrated and explosive (all rajasic expressions). Venus is the planet of fertility, creativity and pleasure. In Bharani, these qualities manifest in the idea of giving birth, both literally and symbolically. Fertility here is not restricted to procreation, but also the ability to create and nurture ideas, projects and new phases of life. Bharani, governed by Yama, also remembers that every beginning is accompanied by an end, a continuous cycle of renewal. Bharani represents the phase in which the seed is planted (the creative act that precedes growth. Being the first nakshatra of Venus, Bharani symbolizes fertility in its primordial state, the impulse to generate life. Fertility is linked to the feminine receptive nature, the ability to sustain life, something that Venus dominates. Bharani, with her association with the uterus, also speaks of the importance of gestation, essential elements of fertility. All goddesses, especially fertility goddesses, are linked to Venus.
Bharani is the nakshatra of karma and reincarnation, one of the least understood concepts in modern times, especially in the Western world. Bharani is the name of the stage where the masculine and feminine, which have arisen from a single genderless source, copulate and, in doing so, carry forward the process of creation.
Mercury AtmaKaraka: Souls in search of Dialogue and Wisdom
“Mercury has the best looks, is witty, likes jokes and laughter, and is erudite. He assumes the nature and constitution of the planets with which he is associated” Parashari 3.26
It is the most important planet to consider when judging an individual's spiritual nature, particularly in relation to its position in the ninth harmonic chart (navamsha).
The Atmakaraka carries the most important karmic lessons for this incarnation, becoming a key to understanding destiny and the soul's inner motivations.
Mercury is the greatest messenger of the gods. It is the planet that represents speech, communication and commerce at all levels. In its lowest function it organizes and articulates material sources. In its highest function it connects us with our internal capacity: the power of the mind.
As Jupiter generally represents the higher or abstract mind, Mercury indicates the lower or concrete mind, the intellect or informational mind. However, Mercury is not limited to this. It also shows the abstract mind in its discriminatory capacity and connects us with the Divine World, or the world of truth. Mercury rules writing, education, calculations, thoughts. It is the planets that move faster and so this indicates quick understanding, ease and plasticity in expression. Mercury is quick to correlate ideas and quick to exchange information or things of value. It shows the intellectual power and degree of mental development in life.
When Mercury assumes the role of AtmaKaraka, the soul's journey is especially marked by the power of intellect, communication and learning. Mercury is a planet of duality and adaptability. It governs the mind, speech, logic and the ability to absorb knowledge. For those with Mercury as AK, life lessons revolve around the way they express themselves, how they interact in the world through words and ideas, and how they develop a deeper understanding of the realities that surround them.
Individuals with Mercury like AtmaKaraka are on a mission to master the power of the mind and communication. For them, words are more than simple tools of expression: they are portals of transformation. There is a strong desire to learn and share knowledge, and their lives often revolve around intellectual processes, teaching, writing or any form of information exchange. However, the challenge is not just to acquire wisdom, but to use it ethically, clearly and sufficiently. Mercury as AK can also indicate the need to find balance between reason and emotion. Although these individuals may be inclined to rely on their sharp minds, there is an important lesson about integrating feelings with logic. They may face dilemmas related to the way they communicate, they may need to learn to be more patient, clear or flexible in their interactions. There is also an inclination to avoid hasty decisions, as Mercury can be quick to jump to conclusions without considering all the variables. This karmic path demands that natives develop a flexible mind, which welcomes different perspectives and is always open to evolving their thinking. Thus, spiritual growth for those with Mercury like AtmaKaraka does not just lie in accumulating information, but in transforming it into profound wisdom that can be shared with the world.
Image description: Emma Watson at the launch of the HeforShe campaign at the ONU in which she says: "the more I talk about feminism, the more I come across the reality of fighting for women's rights." The (brazilian) singer Sandy Leah, when she was honored at PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) said: "if I can give some advice, I would say: stay curious, be present in the here and now, question, participate, get involved and, above all, never underestimate the power of education to change the world."
Emma Watson has a degree in English Literature and Sandy also has a degree in Literature. Both pursued academic degrees that require an advanced understanding of the language. This reflects a strong alignment with the Mercurian nature that values the ability to analyze and convey ideas with clarity and depth. Angelina Jolie promotes a variety of causes, including environmental conservation, education and women's rights, and is best known for her advocacy on behalf of refugees. She advocates for refugees in several large-scale crises. Djamila Ribeiro (brazilian philosopher) in her speech at the ONU: "education plays a fundamental role in creating opportunities and expanding our worldview. Education has the power to transform people and institutions." People with Mercury atmakaraka tend to have a strong desire to share information, which makes them adept at engaging in debates, social discourses and conveying messages to the public.
Mercury, when it is at its highest degree, breaks the barrier and reveals humanity and human needs. Individuals have compassion and equity based not so much on feeling, but on objectivity and practicality. Mercury may value public opinion more than the truth, and becomes dependent and defensive of any involvement. He is the mind that has no real nature, but reflects everything that it considers to be reality.
Mercury is a childish planet and is considered the son of the Moon. He is not the mind that perceives, but can organize ideas. Mercury is the rational mind, the most articulate part of the subconscious (the Moon). In Sanskrit, Mercury is Budha, which means intelligence and is related to Buddhi, the faculty of determination by which we discern the real from the unreal (fully awakening, one becomes enlightened, a Budha). When this faculty judges reality not by appearances, but by discerning the transitory from the eternal, then it functions correctly and the superior power of Mercury is revealed. When we discriminate between names and shapes, we become trapped in the apparent reality of the external world. In the highest sense, Mercury is that faculty of truth and determination that discriminates the real from the unreal, the pure from the impure, truth from illusion. This is the most precise and perfect functioning of the mind. In this higher activity (atmakaraka), Mercury, the mind, is Vishnu, the pervasive consciousness who is also the divine son, the guiding cosmic intelligence, and the source of the great teachers.
Why are Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn planets that take time to achieve something?
versão em eng-pt / version in eng-pt
Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn are planets that, for different reasons, are associated with a slower trajectory in terms of achievements. Each has a distinct approach, but in common, they symbolize processes that require patience and development over time.
Mercury is the planet of communication, intelligence, and learning. Although quick in movement, Mercury is linked to processes that demand constant adaptation and learning. Achieving something with Mercury depends on the ability to communicate, analyze, and learn from situations. Progress is incremental, as Mercury's success relies on accumulating knowledge, experience, and adapting to various scenarios.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, wisdom, and spiritual growth. It governs generosity, ethics, and natural law, but its action is slow because it involves the search for meaning and truth. Jupiter’s achievements require long-term vision, the expansion of horizons, and internal growth. Since Jupiter also symbolizes teachers and gurus, it teaches that true success comes with patience and the gradual maturing of understanding.
Saturn is the planet of time, discipline, and restriction. It is known for testing patience and resilience, imposing challenges and obstacles that slow down progress. Saturn rules over karma and maturity through experience. Its achievements are lasting, but only come after much effort, hard work, and overcoming limitations. It rewards only those who persist and learn from difficulties over time.
These planets require a continuous process of development, patience, and persistence before delivering significant results.
Wherever these planets are in houses in your chart, something will take time to come to fruition. Mercury in the 5th house, for example, may indicate that your higher education will be necessary to achieve your goal, and this may take time. Saturn needs improvement and therefore achieves success in the course of a mature age. Jupiter needs to act in the time of the universe and be very clear in what it is doing, sometimes a person can take time to discover what they really want to do. There is no point in rushing into your career, love life or finances when these three planets are located in these respective houses.
They take the necessary time, but the result will be great.
Saturno é o planeta do tempo, disciplina e restrição.
Tropical Astrology orients the zodiac to the point of the Vernal Equinox, which marks the beginning of the sign of Aries. Vedic astrology orients the zodiac from the 'Galactic Center' to the center of the Galactic Sun, where influences pass through us via the fixed constellation of Sagittarius. The Galactic Center is called 'Brahma,' the creative force, or 'Vishnunabhi,' the navel of Vishnu. From the Sun emanates the light that determines life and intelligence on Earth, directing the seven rays of creation and the distribution of Karma.
In terms of sidereal astrology, the Galactic Center is located at the beginning of Sagittarius. In the Vedic system, it is found in the lunar constellation (nakshatras) called 'Mula,' which means 'the root' or 'origin.' Mula can thus be seen as the first in the series of lunar constellations. It marks 13º 20' of Sagittarius, in the middle of which the Galactic Center is located. The last in the series of lunar constellations is Jyeshta, which means 'the eldest,' found at the end of Scorpio. This shows that the ancients knew of the Galactic Center and named the constellations accordingly. The Mayans identified the Galactic Center as Hunab Ku, representing the Supreme God and Supreme Creator. It is considered the 'Mother's Womb' that constantly gives birth and gave birth to the Sun and the planet Earth. It is believed that Hunab Ku directs everything that happens in the Galaxy from its center through the periodic emission of 'Consciousness Energy.'
The energy of the Galactic Center is primarily transmitted by Jupiter, called 'Guru,' the teacher in Vedic astrology, and by Sagittarius. Jupiter is said to be the teacher of the Gods, the cosmic power of light. In this regard, he is even the teacher of the Sun, the guide of the world. Jupiter represents and directs Galactic Light to the solar system.
This association of Mula with the Galactic Center suggests a strong connection to primordial and cosmic forces, symbolizing the ability to access deep and transformative wisdom that may surface from intense experiences or a spiritual quest. The strong influence of Mula may manifest as a deep connection with these cosmic energies, reflecting a desire to get to the core of issues and seek the truth in its rawest and purest form.
Ketu, the planet that governs Mula, also deals with reaching the core of everything. It stores past Karmas and releases those mature enough to be experienced in the present. It can help gather the necessary tools to fulfill the objective of the present life. This is suggested by the symbolism of the tied roots. Mula, therefore, helps in gathering, meaningfully, the talents developed in past lives.
Mula is concerned with investigating invisible or unknown things. Along with its counterpart Ardra (which lies directly opposite in the zodiac), Mula has the strongest and deepest sense of investigation among all nakshatras. Mula is directly associated with medicinal purposes. In ancient medicinal systems like Ayurveda, roots of various plants are used for medicine preparation. Similarly, Mula is also related to the root of diseases, such as microorganisms like viruses, bacteria, etc. Like everything under Mula's jurisdiction, these microorganisms are invisible to the naked eye. The fact that the roots are tied suggests a sense of limitation. As a result, Mula often does not allow much freedom or dispersion of energies, causing people to dive deep within a limited sphere.
Mula Nakshatra is deeply connected to the figure of Nritti, a powerful and enigmatic goddess of Vedic mythology. Nritti is often associated with destruction, chaos, and dissolution, but her influence goes far beyond just being a destructive force. She represents the primordial forces that deconstruct and dismantle to allow something new and more authentic to emerge. Nritti is the goddess of transformation through destruction. She governs the process of disintegration necessary for renewal and regeneration, reflecting the idea that for growth to occur, something old must be undone. In many ways, Nritti can be seen as the guardian of the boundaries between the known and the unknown, between comfort and chaos, symbolizing moments of crisis that challenge old structures and beliefs, paving the way for personal and spiritual development. Mula's symbol is a bundle of tied roots, representing the exploration of origins, the unveiling of deeper truths, and the search for the essence of any situation. However, to reach the roots, one must undergo processes of destruction and deconstruction, aspects deeply connected to Nritti's energy. Those who have significant planets in Mula Nakshatra may experience intense moments of destruction and rebirth throughout their lives, being called to abandon old identities, beliefs, and situations to transform into something new and more authentic.
Nritti's influence on Mula also emphasizes the importance of facing chaos and the unknown as part of the path to enlightenment. Mula is the nakshatra of deep investigation, where the sought truth is revealed, often in a harsh and challenging way. Nritti guides this quest, ensuring that illusions are destroyed so that the truth, no matter how raw, can emerge.
It is in Mula's nature to quickly cut and destroy things that have lost their value. Most often, it regrets its actions in hindsight. Only when its Universal will is aligned does Mula operate in a wise, Jupiterian manner. The struggle between universality and individuality reaches its peak here, as individuality is at its highest expression. The process of individualization begins in Ashwini, is celebrated in Magha, and culminates with completed individual experiences in Mula. Beyond the realm of the ego and egocentrism, Mula is a proud and arrogant nakshatra, often unable to comprehend its own power and abilities. In some cases, this is good, as its capacity to inflict damage on itself is restricted by its ignorance. Its terrible and demonic side comes from Ketu's negative functioning in its lower aspects, potentially generating ego, vanity, and arrogance, which can lead someone to commit abominable and demonic actions.
Mercúrio governa a escrita, a educação, cálculos, pensamentos.
