a comic about fix-it fanfics
I love fix-it fanfics!
this makes my heart happy <3
I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:
you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.
a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!
Which almost useless power will you accept?
Always knowing exactly what time it is
Being able to precisely date memories
Automatically knowing the legal first name of everyone you see
Perfect balance
Able to remember all of your dreams
Control of your body temperature
Slightly, noticeably bioluminescent
if it pleases thee, reblog for greater sample size
My latest Guardian Books cartoon.
It's stupid but it came to me in a dream⌠(Not a joke, I literally had a dream like this. I had to draw it)
it's usually morally correct to make fun of the usa but whenever i hear british people do it it feels kinda tone deaf. idk if we have the high ground here guys. its like your mom making fun of your mental illness like ma'am where do you think i got it from.
[Image IDs: Text reading: This is from a friend of mine who is a pediatrician:
"A family came in with their 2mo. And they were very hesitant about vaccines. "Which ones are really important?"
So I went through each disease for which the child would be vaccinated today.
*I told them about diphtheria and the 30% mortality rate, how diphtheria toxin is one of the most toxic substances known, as a single molecule can kill a cell. I told them about how this disease used to terrify communities.
*They'd already heard of tetanus. Everyone has heard of tetanus.
*I told them about pertussis and the baby I saw who coughed and coughed and coughed and coughed and coughed....until he went into laryngospasm. We did everything we could. I will never forget his mother throwing himself at our feet begging us not to say what we were going to say. I let that family see the tears playing in my eyes as I described the memory. They needed to know that I am doing this because I fucking care. Not because of some quality metric.
*We'd already discussed how hepatitis B is spread by nonsexual transmission and how in the prevaccine era, as many as 65% of infants born to HBV positive fathers had HBV by the tme they were were a year old. We talked about how that is a life sentence before age 1.
*They know about polio.
*I talked about the baby I watched die of pneumococcal sepsis. Another mother at our feet. Another family destroyed by a microbe.
*I described a cricoidotomy in graphic detail to explain what Haemophilus influenza type B does.
*I was admitted for rotavirus in February of 1979. I still have the hospital bill for $20. My mother told me about how sick I was. And 25 years later, I became a resident and I saw babies with rotavirus. You could hear the diarrhea from across the emergency department. We had to do our own IVs at the NYC hospital. The babies were just so sick and all we could do was keep them hydrated and wait for them to recover. And then in the fall of 2006 the rotavirus vaccine came out. And in February of 2008 I was the senior on the floor and there weren't any rotavirus kids. It was just...gone.
And I asked that mother, now that she'd asked me which vaccines were important, I was going to turn the questions around. Which ones did she think were important?
That baby got every recommended immunization today. I won. RFJ Jr. lost. The parents won; that mother won't be throwing herself at my feet.
Most importantly, the baby won.
Today, I was a hero and this is why I am a pediatrician." /End IDs]
a CRITTER? Carrying a BERRY?? Across a BRAMBLE VINE?????
Some people have such a romanticized view of what it'd be like to own a restaurant / coffee shop / bookstore / whatever that it gives me second-hand stress. Like are you really prepared to sink all your life savings into this thing where you'd have to deal with customers all day and yet if you don't get a certain number of customers it could fuck your whole finances up and drain you of everything. Are you really prepared to be up all night and day worrying about numbers like that
disturbed by how little ppl acknowledge the secondary health risks of vampire bites. if your vampire lover is drinking your blood you MUST be up to date on your tetanus shot. puncture wounds are at especially high risk for tetanus infections. just because your partner was born in 1312 doesnât mean you have to die like it.
moreover they should be prepping the bite point with an alcohol wipe.
and while Iâm at it, Iâve noticed a blithe disregard for health & safety when it comes to blood pacts. canât believe I have to say this but you should absolutely NOT be cutting your palm open with the pocket knife from your belt holster (??????)
if youâre expecting to be in a blood pact/oath situation please just pick up some sterile finger lancets from the pharmacy. cannot stress this all enough.
Please yâall!! tetanus is NOT caused by rusty metal. Itâs a bacteria found damn near everywhere, and wounds infected with saliva are especially high risk for tetanus infections.
itâs also a common misconception that vampire saliva is antiseptic. Vampires spread that myth on purpose. They also CAN cross running water. Make them bathe and brush their teeth!!!!
all the vampires in the tags saying they wonât do this bc the alcohol will make the skin taste bad are just telling on themselves. talk about a red flag.
comparing your human loverâs body to an inanimate utensil & misreading this as a PSA for the vampireâs safety rather than the humanâs. smh vampires continue to be so toxic đ¤Śđźââď¸

I used to see this image all the time in December but now literally nobody cares. We as a society have forgotten him. All he wanted was to offer us a nice treat and what did we do? We abandoned him. Hell has taken refuge in our hearts and its fires have burned to ash all warmth and love. We should be ashamed.
People who interpret "character playlist" as "playlist of songs the character would listen to" as opposed to the good and honorable "playlist that represents the character" are so alien they're chasing me and my cat around the spaceship. That metaphor got away from me. Much like the cat
You know what?
My ancestors would have wanted pasteurization, vaccines, antibiotics, disinfectants, birth control, psychiatric medications, pain management, anesthesia. My ancestors would have wanted to be able to keep their loved ones around longer, and not lose them too early/too soon to childbirths, injuries, bacterial infections, mental illnesses, and diseases that are curable and/or preventable in our modern day life.
Modern medicine saves lives.
In fact, we know they did want these things, because they invented them. They gave them to us out of generations of struggling to understand and make use of nature itself. "Ancestral knowledge" includes the unglamorous things like germ theory, the functioning of the immune system, and how to manufacture lifesaving vaccines. It's not just magical or mystical or remote, it's present in our lives at every moment. It's the reward of human connection: the sum total of human discovery and the boundless ingenuity of human invention, surrounding us at all times with absolute miracles made banal by their familiarity.
If we reject modern medicine, then we reject all the labors and trials our ancestors went through for us; we reject our very nature.
Please, for your ancestors' sake: vaccinate your kids, and take your goddamn medicine.
