Almost a decade ago we produced an event in Austin that brought together a cadre of Hip Hop luminaries for a once in a lifetime production showcase featuring E-Swift of The Alkaholiks, Diamond D, Nottz, and M1 of Dead Prez at the legendary landmark Antones.  Because of our unique relationship with these guys, especially M1 of DP’s, we had an opportunity to sit down and have a candid discussion about the future of Hip Hop and the direction of the music industry in general.  Dead Prez has always held a special position with us, as we cut our major industry teeth being part of the A&R team and inner circle at Loud Records that helped launch their debut album “Lets Get Free”.  This interview was a quick glimpse into how an artist on the front lines of the “Game” felt in 2006 about where the business was headed. True to form the chorus, “It’s bigger than Hip Hop” struck a chord that day...

Circa 2007 we managed an Austin quartet of “J’s” & a “K” that eventually turned into a trio of “J’s” called Vehicular.  From the first second we saw their set we knew they were stars while everyone surrounding us didn’t get it. Vehicular were an instant ATX freak of nature and tore through the city like a lighting bolt. They were also completely ahead of their time. Eventually, one of the J’s left for overseas musical excursions, which lead to forming several groups like Honey Claws and projects like Jet Horns. Along the way he quietly placed songs on Breaking Bad, Gossip Girl, and the new Amy Poehler / Tina Fey “Sisters” movie soundtrack to name a few.  Hats off Jon. After all this time it just reinforces what we always say, “when it comes to talent, you can always see the winners at the starting gate and most importantly, never listen to the naysayers”. Rock on...

This trouper and his executive consigliere showed a lifetime of respect by flying us on the road for one of their many globetrotting tours. Months later during SXSW Kris spotted us along with Young Guru and decided to invite us backstage to say hi to Gary.  Only a few generations witness a guy like GCJ come along, so it was only right to capture the moment. It was beyond capacity backstage so things (camera) get shaky for a minute, but we make it look good....

After getting off of an Asian tour 2 months earlier, we linked back up when these guys (De La Soul) when they arrived in Austin last Halloween. Definitely a family thing, not only because of the Long Island degrees, but we also went to college with their manager, so HU (you know)!  After watching this clip, remember Roc Co.Kane is a helluva a drug. Ask Pos, it knocked him the f**@ out...

Had to reminisce Ala “Flashback Friday” of an event we produced years ago in Austin starring the one and only Bilal.  Producer 88 keys was Bilal’s Dj and special guest.  Picked up ‘88 from the airport in San Antonio and after a long conversation about Tribe Called Quest and Hip Hop in general, we take one look at each other and said, “I remember you from High School!” Good times... Have to get both of these cats back here.

Especially proud of our association with the release of this artist’s major label debut EP cover artwork and companion making of video.  Initiated, conceptualize, materialized and turned in on time within budget for Atlantic Records. You’re welcome Atlantic Records dudes. You have no idea (literally) ha. We were technically wearing our big boy A&R (independent) hats organizing all of the creative elements, so it was a pleasure to see the plan come together.

“Hit Me Fred” was the signature phrase from the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown. We linked up with our family J-Ro of The Alkaholiks when he was in town as part of Norwood Fisher of Fishbone’s telepathic funk project featuring Chuck Boogie of Breakestra, & Blackbird Mcknight of P-Funk. The incomparable Fred Wesley of the legendary JB’s & James Brown’s right hand man was the very special guest. Before they took the stage he blesses us with a medley before they tear up Empire Control Room...
