Welcome to Queer & S.A.F.E. (Queer & Straight Allies for Equality). We're here to celebrate equality and diversity, the joys of sexuality, and also as a tribute to our Straight Allies who have helped the LGBT community in their fight for equality! We believe Straight Allies are every bit a part of the "Gay Community" as the LGBT, and deserve some recognition and appreciation for their help to the cause. Queers & Straights need to work together for a better future. No separatism, no barriers - just equality, and a mutual respect for our differences and similarities. Love is love. Originating with the S.A.F.E. campaign - where our "straight" supporters were encouraged to announce they're "S.A.F.E." (A Straight Ally for Equality). After a few growing pains, we're here - and we're glad to meet you.

The S.A.F.E. Campaign - Relaunching Soon!

It's been a while, but Queer & S.A.F.E. are still here.

Rather excitedly, we're embarking on the S.A.F.E. campaign again - only, we'll be saying goodbye to Tumblr, and getting a proper little website. For us, these are exciting times, and we've had some interest from other Gay Activist groups.

Put simply, our mission: 

Is to give the straight allies of our LGBTQ community the value they truly deserve. To let them say, 'I'm proud to be heterosexual, and I'm proud not to be homophobic'.

We believe that the Straight Allies of the LGBTQ community are extremely undervalued, and that they deserve recognition for all they have contributed to the Queer rights movement. And we firmly believe that they deserve to be their own 'gay subculture' - just as one values one's friends and family for the support, the Queer community needs to show how much it values it's allies. 

We also want to show the world, politicians and Queer rights oppositions that it's not just the Queer community who want Queer rights. The S.A.F.E. Campaign aims to give value, recognition - by both us and the world, support and a voice to our Straight Allies. 

We want our Allies to proudly display they are S.A.F.E.

Australia: We Won

The pulled safe-sex ads, which circulated around Brisbane, but were later pulled due to a number of complaints (apparently "not lead" by Wendy Francis and the ACL... Puh-lease), will now be put back again.

Brisbanians, expect to see the adverts, which feature two fully-clothed men, both looking at the camera, at a bus stop and digital billboard near you. The Facebook campaign worked wonders, this is a real stand for people power, and shows the ACL who the real minority are.

Where are all my fellow Aussies? Perhaps you could give us a little reply to let us know where you're at?!

It's true. The Gay Community doesn't have a good reputation when it comes to safe-sex. I'm just glad we've got our heterosexual brethren to show us what using condoms is all about. Congratulations, by the way, to my next door neighbour, who will be expecting a baby in January - here's hoping you can find out who the father is by then.

I find nothing more ridiculous than when homosexuality is described as an 'unhealthy lifestyle'. Smoking forty a day is an unhealthy style. Eating fast food everyday is an unhealthy lifestyle. Heavy drinking is an unhealthy lifestyle. Taking copious amount of drugs, or slashing yourself rigid every day - these are unhealthy lifestyles. Since when did having a same-sex attraction constitute a health risk?

This was the advertisement placed in Brisbane, Australia, to raise awareness of Safe Sex. Good job, right? 

It seems not. Wendy Francis and the Australian Christian Lobby have forced the advertising company, Adshel, into taking the advertisements down stating that it showed two men "in an act of foreplay".

This clearly isn't so. This is a clear case of homophobia. Consider this: the same places where these images are placed, is where advertisements for all sorts of other things, sometimes featuring sexually-suggestive women; the ACL have not launched campaigns against such advertisements. And yet two clothed men and a condom - used to raise awareness of safe-sex and counter the spread of STIs, HIV & AIDS, is considered "inappropriate". 

PLEASE - EVERYONE - "attend" the following Facebook event, and show Adshel, the Australian Christian Lobby and the dinosaur Wendy Francis, reblog this or a similar post, and spread the word.

When you're bisexual, you sometimes feel that straight people find you 'too gay' and gay people find you 'too straight' - and sometimes that makes you feel like you're only ever suited to other bisexuals. How's that for "doubling your chances of getting laid"?

SIGN THIS AS A HUMAN BEING WITH A CONSCIENCE.  KILLING GAYS WON'T STOP HOMOSEXUALITY. IT WON'T MAKE PEACE WITH GOD.

ALL IT WILL DO IS THAT UGANDA IS STILL HANGING ON TO AN OLD, OUTDATED COLONIAL LAW, AND THAT IT CANNOT MOVE ON FROM IT'S PAST.
