A while back my student, Oh Minah, went on a MBC variety program called <Star Flower*> and won first place and a trip outside the country. The program <Star Flower> is a show about a star and their fan; and she mentioned this on the show, during class, and in personal time. Infinite saved her life…
Before she got married, she was a competent architect. She met her husband while she was studying and she loved him for 9 years before marrying him. After she had her second child, she gave up the job she loved; to focus on taking care of her kids.
However, her passion to be a perfect mother gave Minah a hard tackle in her life. She would carry her baby on her back and wash her hair, carry her baby on her back while eating; she gave everything she could to her kids in the 24 hours. Her back hurt, but the thing that hurt the most was her heart. It was because she knew tomorrow will be the same as today. She even thought that it would be better if she didn’t open her eyes the next today.
The man she trusted and depended on was busy. Of course, he was having a hard time, just like her. And although she understood that, she ended up asking “Honey, when are you coming back” rather than saying “Do well today” to him as he walked out the door for work. She ended up getting depression.
She cried a lot, and she hurt a lot. One weekend night, her husband still out at work, she turned on the TV she doesn’t watch that well. There was an idol group named “Infinite” on the screen, singing and dancing. All seven members were all in sync and singing, and she wondered how hard these young singers had to work to shine so brightly on the 3-minute stage and her heart filled with emotions.
Her curiosity for these particular young singers grew. She searched here and there on the internet for their interviews. These people practiced 18 hours each day for 3 years. And all seven members all had a hard time as young kids. She felt pity for them. She also wanted to cheer for them.
After that time, Minah got through by watching Infinite sing. She got over her despair that way. These young singers gave hope in Minah’s life.
The fact that one could give another person hope in their life, and happiness….I think it’s okay for celebrities to have some pride. At the same time, they should have some responsibilities.
When you say idol, you get a few stereotypes come to your head. However, I learned through Minah that they can only sing because they went through those hard long days of practicing for 18 hours each day. I guess you need to work your bones that hard if you want to give another person happiness.
