Modern photography shifting into Remote shooting!
Who hasn’t received an overwhelming and thrilling feeling to know that in just less than a year, the covid crisis has brought up years of changes into technology more than ever! What’s more, to stay competitive companies are now competing to deliver new tech solutions; as a response to the new demands with people moving toward online, giving us more digital invention that are increasingly shown in the computing technology.
One of these technologies that gained popularity during the hight of the pandemic is what’s now introduced to the photography world as ‘remote or virtual shooting’, this has opened more possibilities for photographers who are not able traveling because of the crises, to continue pursuing their career or hobby and for photography schools to continue it courses.
This technology allowed Photographers to now view the in-camera setup, change the camera settings, and are enabled to explore the location their shooting in, set ups shoots without leaving their houses. The photographer starts a live stream using any app like Facebook, facetime or PetaPixel, with the client or the other side holding the camera is sharing their screen, to control the tethered camera that is connected to the phone or the laptop, the photographer will have full manual control over camera settings, and once captured, the shoots get displayed on his screen.
Remote shooting has become a part of the modern photography and photographer’s workingflow, showing us huge amount of powerful portraiture captured with smartphones that are even good enough to be in the cover of major fashion publication such as Vogue. Though, this new tech still did get it enough shares of complains and other professional issues.
Photographers has described it an intensely frustrating and inefficient process as the photographer can't increase the quality of the medium used, adding the difficulties of communicating with the other side.
The pictures are good, but the question is are they professional? Smartphone’s camera’s are designed to be convenient but not for professional use, any photoshoot like this require a huge amount of time and effort and the results are flat in most cases than being stunning.
As a technology that grew popular during the covid crisis, it's an interesting tool to try for a shortage of time. But something to be resumed in fashion publications and for photographers? I highly doubt it.
