Torvill and Dean RETURN to ITV but NOT for Dancing On Ice! @torvillanddean

Torvill and Dean have signed up for a brand new ITV show, after they announced their decision to leave Dancing On Ice earlier this year.

The Olympic legends fronted the popular ice skating show for nine series’ before stepping down. ITV later cancelled the format, as much because of the falling ratings as the duo’s departure from the team.

I actually think that this proposed programme of teaching young, down and out kids would be a very good thing.  Both Jayne and Chris come from that working class background and it was their passion for ice skating, hard work and willingness to take risks which  helped them achieve everything they dreamt of.   These kids could learn a lot for J&C, even if they find that ice skating is not their thing.  The skills they acquire could serve them well in any other profession.

Mass Bolero

I’m in the market square scene at the end, but right at the back so you can’t see me :(

Seeing how difficult it was for ordinary people to perform some of the signature moves in the Bolero, gave me an additional insight into just how beautifully Chris and Jayne performed the Bolero in the Olympics and ever since.  As I'm not a skater, the technical aspects of their performance at that level - the strength, the balance and the  precision were not very visible to me until I saw how difficult it was for ordinary people to do some of those moves just now.  Because what I saw in Jayne and Chris' performance of Bolero were their grace, their  story of their flight across the ice, up the volcano and their desperate and forbidden love.
