i think pete is a huge animal lover so with that being said, bored and living at home in maine, they go ahead and decide to adopt a cat. specifically an orange one, naming it after the one he loves most, ray. this ends with receiving an āare you for real?ā look from ray
secretly, heās flattered but would never admit to that
when restless, pete finds himself writing songs or poems about him. happening more often than he realizes. when asked (usually by rayās mom) given itās late at night, he hands her his notebook, asking if ray will like it
the answer is always yes.. which results in pete getting over the nerves eating away at him and sharing them with ray. though out of love, ray cracks a joke and immediately, the notebook vanishes from his hands
leading to their first big fight
ray is the biggest yapper known to man, and even though it gets so bad that pete wants to zone out, he doesnāt. instead, he finds himself fighting the smile on his face, intently listening. every. single. time.
the both of them are VERY clingy and love pda.. more so pete with the public affection. on a whim of following pete absolutely everywhere is how ray got the nickname, shadow. as for pete, heās big on putting his arm around ray, showering him in tons of love (kisses to be exact, etc)ā¦ need to explain more?
ever since coming back from the walk, ray suffers from night terrors. some nights itās manageable, the others, not so much. the only thing that calms him down is pete. in the way he reassures him by his soft words, or acts of physical touch. ray often wonders why pete still sticks around
raymond the artist garraty. his favorite thing to catch is pete off guard, doing whatever he loves best. however, he doesnāt let his mom or pete see what he draws, protecting his sketchbook with his life.
when itās baseball season, you just know ray is dragging pete to watch. cozied up on the living room couch
pillows? no. ray uses peteās chest or arms as one. vice versa
being together for awhile, peteās ready to propose but nervous about asking rayās mother. of course, she agrees, giving him a sense of relief. next, is actually planning the proposal, and oh, has he been contemplating this for weeks. scared heās going to fuck it up somehow
THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET SICK
after rayās death, it took pete at least a year to visit rayās mom because of the guilt weighing on him as he blames himself for ray dying. however, sheād be very welcoming since thatās the only piece of ray she has left
when asked why it took so long to visit, heād look down at his feet, unable to get the words out. sheād reassure that sheās not mad at him, and that he did a good thing by saving ray from potentially dying in front of her
she would even go as far as keeping pete around to stay at the house because itās too empty with her husband and now, ray, gone
pete would take awhile to answer, not wanting to decline for obvious reasons, but doesnāt want to say yes as he fears grieving wouldnāt get easier. eventually, he gives in - leading to rayās mother, showing pete, rayās bedroom
