Feel super awk doing this, but here goes: I can’t work right now.
Last year, I finally got an office job. It wasn’t a good time. I was working ten hour days, often working six days a week in less than ideal conditions. Still, I felt fortunate and thought eventually, it would be less stressful. At the very least, I thought I’d just learn to manage.
In August of last year, my grandma was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. I was already helping out my disabled mom at home and my grandma moved in during treatment. By late December the stress of working 50+ hour weeks and helping care for her was giving me daily panic attacks and hives the size of quarters. So I quit, thinking I could find part time work and then return to full time when things had settled down at home.
Then Everything Happened. Living with two elderly people, one with cancer, meant that I couldn’t work. Even after my grandma passed last month, I found it unthinkable to potentially kill my parents for ten bucks an hour. It doesn’t help that due to my circumstances, getting unemployment in my state would be impossible even without the current stress on the system. I’ve been applying to any distance job I can find, but in the meantime I have bills to pay. My pills may be relatively cheap but my doctor definitely isn’t.
