Okay so humans, right? We got this far because we're pack animals. We work best working and supporting each other. If someone's lacking, someone else fills in that gap and vice versa. Cool? Cool.
Now, Astartes. They're raised from prepubescence, a very important time in growth and socialization and all that good stuff. Except they're cranked up to 11, it's (often quite literally) beaten into them that the boys around them are their brothers, those guys are gonna walk into hell with you and drag you out too. They're gonna fight the literal horrors of space hell side by side with you until death do you part
Not to mention the countless serfs that tend to them. These guys got serfs for everything, they're armoured with assistance, they're washed and clothed by them, their food is prepared by them. And ships have So Many serfs. There's always Somebody around is the point
So it causes this really funny thing where when an astartes is separated from his brothers, from his serfs, from everything and everyone he knows. He seeks out some form of companionship, he needs someone or multiple someones to spend his time with. It's not *necessary*, they can live alone and handle themselves quite fine for extended periods of time.
But you see them repeatedly, they seek out companions!
In Son of the Forest, one of the Fallen sticks with the villain just out of knowing him and having a companion, even when he knows his brother's descending into Chaos. Zabriel mentions having stayed with several brothers over the years and now protects a group of humans and they clearly trust him with their lives. Another one leads a pirate band with other Fallen. Another lives on a station with again other Fallen and their serfs are noted to be close by, peeking around corners.
In Void Exile, Sharr has been entirely exiled from his Company but he's found three other exiles to travel and fight alongside.
In Outer Dark, the Ashen Claws are renegades and they eat and sit alongside their humans almost as equals. The Chapter Master even has who seems to be the 'lead' human who sits with him at the head table
In Salvation, Rius crash lands and is amnesiac when he's taken in by humans and without knowing what to do just helps the village and the people. He does the heavy lifting and dragging plows because they can't but he can.
In the Dark Angels, when they give someone penance, the DA has to wear 'pentinents robes' and they're excluded from even speaking to their others. The Carcharodons literally exile their brothers. Even in the Ultramarines, a punishment for Pasanius was to seclude him and keep him from rejoining Uriel for an extended period of time.
It's this really interesting thing where astartes are So social that their punishments are literally to be secluded and excluded. They have the innate need to be around others that they seek to fill it even under literal exile. It goes beyond just the brotherhood of War and fighting literal space hell, they're constantly surrounded by serfs or human commanders and their fellow astartes to the point they can't tolerate to be alone for long.

🌸 Paper Wisteria Tutorial 🌸
want to make these flowers to hang over your doorway or window or what have you?:

i made these using:
green yarn
colorful construction paper
pony beads
of course it is not required for you to use any of these specifically; you just need paper, beads to space the flowers, and any string like thing to hang them on. you will also need scissors and glue—mine hold up perfectly with just elmer’s school glue!
tutorial below the cut (this will be long, be warned!)
🌸step one:🌸
cut a length of your string/yarn/what have you, and be generous with it depending on how long you want your wisteria to be. once you have this length of yarn, tie a bead to one end. this is what will hold up the bottom flower
🌸step two:🌸
prepare your construction paper to make flowers! the way i do it, one full sheet can create four flowers
first, fold your sheet hamburger style (short side to short side)
then, cut down the crease so you have two even halves
then, do the same to the half sheet you now have, folding it in half hamburger style and cutting once more. this will give you two sheets 1/4 size of your original paper
don’t worry about cutting or folding anything perfectly, i promise you it doesn’t matter
🌸step three:🌸
make the flowers!
take your 1/4 sheet and pull one corner up to the long side to create a triangle shape with some extra on the side. cut off this extra, leaving you with only the triangle
take the two opposite corners of your triangle and bring them to each other, folding it into a smaller triangle
repeat this step once more, leaving you with another, smaller triangle
then, find the corner where the paper is folded and cut off the tip. be careful not to cut too much, or else the bead won’t be able to hold up the flower !!
then, flip it over and cut an arch shape into the other side
when you unfold it, it should look like this!:
if your flower looks like this, you’ve done it right! hooray !!
next, cut one petal out
you can put the extra petal aside or toss it, we won’t need it’
take the two petals on either side of the gap and glue one on top of the other; this should give the flower a curve
that’s how you make a paper flower! huzzah!! the hard part is done
🌸step four:🌸
stack your flowers !!
put the yarn through the hole in the center of your flower and slide it down until the bead stops it (make sure the flower is open downwards!). then, make more flowers, using the beads to space them out as you put them on. I like to use three pony beads between the flowers to space them out
as you stack them, your wisteria will start to form! i worried about color coordinated the beads at first, but it really doesn’t matter because you won’t be able to see them once all the flowers are on there. i like to end off my wisteria with one matching colored bead at the top for a finished look, but of course, this is not required.
when you’ve stacked as many flowers as you want onto your yarn, it’s time to hang them!

hang your flowers !!
of course weight will vary depending on what exact materials you use, but mine hold up just fine with only scotch tape since it’s just yarn, paper and beads!
