┈ 「☼」 “You’re right… You didn’t, but I didn’t know the dog was going to die! I wouldn’t have picked this movie if I knew it did. I like dogs too! Not like I enjoyed watching the poor thing die either…” With a quiet huff forcing itself from his lungs, Taejoon’s mind scrambles for solutions. She’s a difficult one to keep entertained and out of his hair. “Ah… What about…” He trails off, mumbling to fill the silenced air between them as he mentally scans through horror films. “Why don’t you pick one!?” He turns to her suddenly, his arm extending toward the television as he points his index finger. “Since you want to change it. Or find something else for us to do.”
[ ☆ ] “you could’ve checked!” she banters, an uncharacteristic whine obvious in her tone “you know my issue with dying dogs!” yeon isn’t normally this picky, but there is something about taejoon that made her want to match his level of insufferability. “no need to be grumpy,” she scolds (ironically) with pursed lips as she takes the remote from the arm rest and flips through the available films. finding none that matches her taste, she turns off the television and sits back on the couch, arms crossed like a baby throwing a tantrum. “dammit.” she glares at the black screen, annoyed, but her eyes widen as soon as an idea lights up in her cranium. “hey.” she turns to her companion, a newfound enthusiasm obvious in her peepers as she leans forth. “you wanna go for a swim?”
9:42 AM - Sometimes I wonder if I'm going to always be the problem. What if loving someone isn't as human nature as people say it is, and I'm the freak that defies that?
GET YOURS ! ☆STATUS ! ACCEPTING
[ ☆ ] yeon hums, quite unsure if she is the right person to talk to about matters like love. “well, love comes in a lot of forms, and from what i’ve learned, it is more human to love too much than not love at all. i don’t think you’re the problem, per se, but my mom always told me to give love if i have love to give, so no need to feel bad!”
10:41 A.M - I wonder if you're thinking of me as I think of you.
GET YOURS ! ☆STATUS ! ACCEPTING
[ ☆ ] “all i’m really thinking about is how this is a bit creepy because you’re hiding behind a mask” yeon blinks in half-confusion, but she hopes the cheery smile that followed would be enough to quell the other’s worries. “but eh, i’m a bit flattered that i cross your thoughts, nonnie! is this your plan–because i’m surely thinking about who you could be!”

Three in the morning – an ungodly hour; sunshine is so far away in time from appearing and gracing one’s weak tremoring limbs of brisk frosting wind of a frigid morning (yes, it is considered a morning when given a second ponder) and it is dark, pitch black if only a few stars and street lights are the only source of brighter hues. He’s vacant of sensations; aside being homesick and cold – an imperturbable expression is worn over his face. And what is he doing at such a terrible terrible hour outside of his apartment, dressed not warmly enough (he should know better by now) and all by himself… it is an enigma undisclosed – buried deep inside his heart the forlorn now that his loved one is absent for some sort of a job abroad (he is more than happy for her to achieve such an opportunity however he cannot deny the yearning he senses deep in his heart for her solace) and he has got a day off tomorrow. He’s lonely and in solitary, to say the least, seeking for substance of some sort out on the streets. Little does he know what awaits him, and if he could recall how his mother always says ‘listen to your gut-feeling’ well… she is certainly right, the first intuition (in his case it was staying at home, in his bed, endeavoring to fall asleep like he has over the past few hours) is always the right one.
BOOM! CLASH! “Aiya–…!” Flesh that is tender and silky now bashed against the cold pavement, bruises begin to form upon joints and only later on will he discover them. A side glance, and he’s perplexed … who calls his name? Who holds such a familiar entity while his gaze is blurry with the overwhelming shock that grows immensely each second? “– Yeon?!”
Oh no, a mishap – that is the most delicate way of phrasing the situation he’s caught himself in – with ignorance confusion and incertitude filling his absent mind, he glances around hastily as if seeking for some escape. “Wh-wha–w–what… I– I do– what’s going on– I— n-no – no, I can’t figh— why? What’s… why are you doing here at such an hour?!” And how come she seems so lost, so distressed meanwhile she ran away and bumped into him… what on earth is going on?
[ ☆ ] “i said ask questions later!” she cannot afford to be distracted by any of his mumbles, as the group of bald men in front of their unlikely pair are growing angrier by the second. his stutters were an obvious no to her prior query, so she steels her nerves and tightens her stance in preparation, adrenaline pumping through her veins with the added burden of protecting a most unfortunate friend.
a large man about six foot two in height and two hundred pounds in muscle begins the attack, raising the metal rod in his hand to a considerable height to add force once he strikes the demigod. yeon parries the blow, both hands holding either end of her trusty wooden bat, the muscles in her lithe arms aching with the aftershock of the impact. up close, she could see a large scar running down his rough cheek--chae’s handiwork, most possibly. both feet braced upon the pavement, she pushes her attacker back, before landing a powerful kick to his stomach with the hard toe of her scuffed boot.
the group looks more irate than ever, obvious as three leather-clad baldies run towards her form, large hands tight upon their chosen weapon. lack of battle strategy leads them to charge in succession, and yeon drives the round end of her bat at one guy’s chest, effectively throwing him back to his two companions. the trio struggle to regain their composure, and yeon uses this time to to gather moisture and vapor from the early morning air, forming a huge enough water bubble that serves as both attack and distraction when it explodes upon the rest of the rowdy group.
“SHE’S A WITCH! SHE’S A WITCH!” the demigod pays their chanting no heed, her attention now-focused on the distressed lad she didn’t mean to drag into the scuffle. as finale, she throws her bat at one of the men’s bald head, and she doesn’t hear the satisfying thud it made on his skull as she grabs her hapless companion by the wrist and drags him to run with her, away from the brawl.
I have the sea foam in my veins, I understand the language of the waves.
closely related to sharks but with long, flat bodies and wing-like pectoral fins, mobula rays are ideally suited to swooping through the water - here off the gulf of california - yet seem equally at home in the air, so much so that they have earned the name “flying rays”. mobula rays can reach heights of more than two metres, remaining airborne for several seconds.
mobula rays are quite elusive and difficult to study, so biologists are not quite sure why they jump out of the water. theories vary from a means of communication, to a mating ritual (though both males and females jump), or as a way to shed themselves of parasites. they could also be jumping as a way of better corralling their pray, as seen with them swimming in a circular formation.
what is known about mobula rays is that they reach sexual maturity late and their investment in their offspring is more akin to mammals than other fishes, usually producing just a single pup after long pregnancies, all of which makes them extremely vulnerable to commercial fishing, especially as a species that likes to come together in large groups.

"fang. not buddy.“ he corrects automatically, under the assumption that she’s gotten his name wrong, unaware that buddy encapsulates all without offense. but he’s offended. he hasn’t had a name for very long. being referred to by his model number for nearly the entirety of his creation never bothered him until he got his very own name. now it’s one of the few things he cherishes. he’s afraid if anyone refers to him as anything other than his name it’ll be shoved back where it came from. and he’s back to just being a model number. forgotten. and just another body in a long list that no one cares about. "and i’m okay.” his head turns. awkwardly at that. he’s too stiff. “are you?”
she seems rather attentive. like something is clearly wrong with him. but he feels fine and he wants to appear that way. despite everything from body language to him speaking stating otherwise. he hasn’t been programmed with social behaviors like other synthetics, can’t come off as human as he wants to. so every move he makes is another notch against him. just something to increase the suspicion already mounting. he doesn’t know what to do. she seems adamant about assisting. he can’t leave. not yet. there was something he was here for. and he wouldn’t walk out of there without it. but he has to remember what it is first.
“is that so? i think i can find the exit on my own. i’m an adult.” but she drags him along anyway and he follows because he can’t just stand there plus her hold on him is pretty impressive. he’s not exactly lightweight. “i don’t need to be driven home!” he doesn’t mean to shout at her but it’s a reflex reaction for him. he yanks his arm away from her and stands his ground with a frown. “sorry i can’t leave. i have to find my –” he looks around tries to go through his memory. what do humans cherish? and then it hits him. like a semi-truck. so hard that he grins and his voice cracks, sounds more human than it ever has. “my phone! i need to get my phone!” he doesn’t wait for her to answer. he rushes off, past a tank housing a slew of sea turtles and into the maze of the aquarium. he finally remembered what he needed. and even better he thinks he found where to get it before and then the glitching started.
[ ☆ ] yeon has lost count of how many times she has found the blonde to be beyond understanding. a feat, really, as being a demigod leader of a quad of misfit others (with body horrors and capabilities that make them all stick out like a sore thumb), she was quite accustomed to pushing the boundaries of her sympathy to almost unhealthy levels. still, the man in front of her has shown that something is off a couple of tens of times beyond normal, so the daughter of the seas makes an impromptu promise to stop at nothing to keep the other safe and out of trouble.
after all, it’s her paycheck that will get slashed if something goes beyond protocol.
“phone?” half-confused and wholly suspicious, she blinks thrice at his childish tantrum, but the rapid increase of his enthusiasm matched by the sudden sprint puts all her nerves and senses on high alert. something’s fishy, and it’s not the sea bass lazily drifting in the blue tank beside her. “yo, it’s me again.” static bounces along the parallel tanks as she unhooks her walkie-talkie from her belt holster to contact security, her tone steady, serious. “we got a code yellow by the squids and he’s moving towards the larger tanks. can i get you guys to lock every possible exit? thanks.”
with the assurance that the blonde won’t be able to escape without an explanation, yeon picks up her pace and goes the opposite direction, knowing too well that one of the staff doors lead to the only destination fang could be headed to. my phone my butt, she thinks, sliding into the passageway she uses to hide from overenthusiastic kids, i’ve done my rounds--there’s no phone in that area, buddy.
she sees a glimpse of blonde at the corner of her eye the moment she exits the passageway, and she sprints to close the distance between to only a couple of feet. “HEY FANG!” she calls, her high mezzo echoing along the narrower hallways of the larger tanks. it’s the closest exhibit to the maintenance area, and the fact makes her nerveends tingle with doubt. “i don’t think i’ve seen any phones in that part of the exhibit!” the marine animals swimming in the tanks begin to share in her vigilance, their large eyes turning to where the blonde runs. “why don’t i accompany you to lost and found? because unless your phone is actually a whale, you won’t have any luck finding it here”
if it’s really a phone you’re looking for, that is.

[ ☆ ] it is three in the morning and she is running from a bunch of thugs.
she’s unsure as to how it happened, really. all she remembers was finishing her nightly rounds with her girls and saying goodbye at the intersection before they all go their separate ways. she was walking home, leisurely, her bat safely tucked in her armpit when a bald and burly guy blocks her path and begins spewing out threats in a spit-riddled litany. he says (in between curses) that her gang beat up their leader, and the only logical conclusion to their supposed feud would be to return the favor and beat her leader up too.
except, the said leader is unfortunately herself so she prepares to retaliate, only to be faced by ten similar looking men armed with chains and metal rods, all of them seemingly miffed at the fact that a young girl had reduced their fearsome head to a black and blue pulp. she's tired and she’s not in the mood to make a commotion, so yeon distracts their group with a drizzle before sprinting away into the night. she easily puts some distance between herself and the group of burly men, but it looks as if the fates had other plans as she runs straight into another person, her butt meeting the cold pavement with an audible thud.
“ow...” she winces at the sharp pain that runs up along her spine. “jinhong?!”
her features contort into surprise, but she has no time to process the shock, as the group that was chasing her have caught up, their bald heads gleaming under the moonglow. with haste, she picks herself up from the ground, bat tight in one hand and the other hand open and ready to command water to do her bidding. “save your questions for later,” her sea-flecked hues are intense as she turns to her unlikely companion. “can you fight?”
yukwonxdemigod:
Her poor condition wasn’t exactly a secret to the usually alert son of Hades her face was pale, her breaths seemed shallow to him and something about her eye indicated that she was clearly not completely well. Then again, who would be if they’d have to stand outside in the burning sun all day long? One thing was for sure, would he be the one having to do such useless thing, he would’ve quit long ago and rather become a janitor or some shit. At least he wouldn’t have to deal with people as much as she did and he could annoy the kids from time to time.
Arching a brow when she covered her mouth to share some information between the two, Yukwon almost leaned in as if he cared for actual gossip. He definitely wasn’t a fan of aquariums or any other place that could attract masses of people but his thoughts were already analyzing the situation if they’d actually decide to go there. Yukwon merely nodded when she explained their special event for the holidays. Albeit he really wanted to thoroughly avoid the holiday season as kids and parents alike would be everywhere but then again, Lea really enjoyed the little mermaid. Right after Frozen of course. How Yukwon knew this? Because he sat there with her on their couch twenty-seven times to watch this freaking movie when she wouldn’t stop crying. Nothing helped better than these goddamned singing sisters who just can’t seem to let the fuck go of each other. It came to the point where he could cite every single word of every single song and he was sure about to lose his mind. It went as far as him not being to think of a new melody or lyrics for his new songs because it would feel too familiar to the goddamn tunes of the Disney flick.
Focusing his attention back to the girl, something flickered int his eyes at the sight of her face. Concern. Now, the demigod was never one to care for others but since a year and a half ago when his little girl was born, he started to think differently. What if it would be Lea standing in front of him? He’d care, of course. Furthermore he would want others to take care of her as well if they’d see her like this. It was probably the same thing the girl’s parents wished for her at some point. She had to be someone’s daughter. Opening his mouth to cut her speech short and just ask her if he could help her, he soon just stretched his arms out a little to catch her when she started falling in his direction. Gosh, if some of Shinhye’s friends would see this and get the wrong idea he would die a slow, painful death. His arms wrapped around her small frame as he pulled her up a little to place another arm under her legs she couldn’t stay out here in the sun and he really didn’t want to explain some random paramedics why she suddenly passed out. In fact, he wouldn’t even be able, even if he wanted to. She was light, in his opinion a little too light for a girl her age and physique but that wasn’t exactly for him to judge. Maybe she was doing this job to keep from starvation. Lifting her up, he took a second to look around before he started to walk to a shady alley nearby. At least the crowd wouldn’t notice them there and if anything would happen, he could still shadow-travel away. Leaning against the cool wall, he looked at the girl in his arms. She had some really familiar features not the kind of familiar where he knew her but more of the kind where she looked a little bit like a cousin of his. Hakyeon. She was somewhat similar to him, yet Yukwon couldn’t explain why. One final glance around ensured him that he could go unnoticed, and so he did. With her still firmly in his arms, it took him a bit of concentration to turn both figures into nothing but shadows for a split second before they ended up near the entrance of a nearby hospital.
It took him a while to explain the situation to the medics who placed her on a stretcher but he soon followed them to an examination room. Why he followed them? He didn’t know. Yukwon had places to be, a dinner waiting for him at home and chores to do and yet, there he was. Walking alongside a doctor who tried to figure out what the hell was wrong with her. Nevertheless, she was soon placed in a simple patient room, with the demigod sitting on a chair next to her bed. The diagnosis: Dehydration. Texting his wife about the whole ordeal, he reassured her that everything was fine and informed her about him coming home as soon as she’d wake up and he’d know that she was alright. “What the fuck’s wrong with this day?”
[ ☆ ] unconscious, yeon dreams of her father.
eyes closed, yeon dreams of being submerged in the deep, and she knows it is a dream as there is nothing but blue surrounding her swimming form. sea-flecked hues catch a glimmer of light a few leagues from where she drifts, and she kicks her legs and paddles her arms to go closer and closer to the shine. the glimmer turns into a silhouette and the silhouette morphs into a form as she nears, a form too familiar, too close to her heart to even miss even in the bluest, cloudiest of waters.
“dad,” she mumbles, a lump quickly forming in her throat as his godly visage betrays no emotion. she has an urge to swim into his arms and ask for an embrace, but there was an unfamiliarity wrought about by years upon years of his absence, so yeon stills in the deep blue and waits for her father to make the first move. this dream is a rare moment; the god must have words to impart.
instead of words, poseidon pulls her into a tight embrace.
“dad?” she is confused and she is shocked and she is overwhelmed, but her arms instinctively wrap around his waist and her fingers clutch tight upon his godly cloak. the god of the seas whispers an apology in her ears, and yeon wonders how she merits such. she hears hushed words of concern and a short scolding soon after, and the demigod is almost moved to a bumbling mess of tears.
almost, as she is harshly pulled to reality after a single tear runs down her cheek. she sits up, pale and panicked, gasping and choking as her lungs desperately search for air. instincts allow her to ignore her surroundings, all senses focused into finding a sizeable amount of water, and her eyes quickly land on a pitcher on a table by her side. without a second thought, she wills the clear liquid to form into a watery neck-pillow, quickly wrapping her creation around the gills on her neck.
with oxygen now present in her system, she takes the time take-in her surroundings. it looks like she had fainted before her flyer shift could even end, and a kind soul she has yet to meet has brought her to a hospital. kind soul. hospital. it is then that she becomes painfully aware of another presence in the room--a presence both familiar and not;--and she slowly turns her attention to where her supposed savior sits, a cocktail of fear and caution obvious in her widened eyes.
the watery stream on her neck falls out of form and splashes unto the hospital bed. surprise is an understatement--the young demigod is aghast that she is careless enough to reveal her supernatural abilities to a stranger, much more a stranger that could’ve been an added fifty bucks to her paycheck. it takes her a while to gather her thoughts, and her lips quiver as she forces words out of her system.
“h-hi. i--i’m guessing....you....i--” stop stuttering, jeongyeon. “did you see that?”

┈ 「☼」 The hair at the nape of his neck rises at the palm pressed to his cheek, and the effort on her part to push him away is lessened as he coils and retreats to the other end of the couch. She is unnaturally cold, and Taejoon is left rubbing at his own cheek in an attempt to salvage his heat. “Is someone in a bad mood?” Either side of his nose crinkle just as he scrunches it at the very tip, finding her heart must match with the absence of heat in her hand. “Are you really not going to finish these with me? I can put another one on, or you can just crash there and continue being boring, that’s fine too…”
[ ☆ ] she squints at him at the query, a bit skeptic if her companion was being sarcastic to add to her suffering or that he was naturally insufferable. of course she’d be in a bad mood. it has barely been five minutes into the film and the dog suddenly dies for no particular reason. it was a golden retriever too, and she prays that her daeyangie is safe in momo’s place for the night. “look. i didn’t sign up for a horror movie where the dog doesn’t survive!” yeon pulls the blanket up to her chin, her supposed glare looking less and less intimidating with the act. “so, if you have a nice film where no dogs will be harmed, i won’t be boring--” mind the airquotes around the word “--and sleep.”
⇢ OOH, A CATCH ! @achxn [ ✐ ]
[ ☆ ] it has been half an hour into the film and yeon is still continuously questioning her decision to hang out with this dude. today isn’t exactly the breeziest of days for the collegiate demigod with around ten jobs to her name, and she would rather sleep or earn more money or sleep instead of be cold and disguted at the b-rate horror film showing on screen. “i’m not scared, i’m cold.” to prove her point, the daughter of the seas shoves an icy palm against the other’s face, pushing him away and out from her personal bubble. “and if demons aren’t real as you say--” (they were real, she has encountered a few, but that is a story left for another day) “then it shouldn’t be a problem if i just go and sleep right here.”
moonqom:
With a drink in one hand and a cream cheese bagel in the other, she looks from left to right as she took a few short strides towards the tables, needing a place to set her and her stuff down before it dropped from their hold in her arms. She was getting desperate, and from the way it felt like her laptop was slipping, she needed one stat. There was but one empty seat at a small table, already taken up by another patron, but she took the courage to approach anyway.
“Sorry– Do you mind if we share a table? And could I also bother you to help me hold some things because I’m pretty sure they’re about to fall–”
[ ☆ ] she almost doesn’t hear the other approach, but yoo jeongyeon must have an uncanny sense for the suffering--she tore her eyes off of her marine biology text book just in time to see the other patron struggling with her own items. immediately, she pushes her headphones off of her ears and unto her neck, standing up from her seat and taking the woman’s laptop and drink and setting them both upon the table before they could meet their untimely end on the floor.
“it’s no problem! sorry i couldn’t hear you earlier.” yeon gestures to the headphones slung around her neck. “and no worries! i don’t mind a seatmate!” to further her point, the collegiate demigod moves her notes and things so they only cover half the table. “the cafe’s weirdly crowded today.”
