We’re back!
Evelon’s back up!
Website down!
Evelon appears to currently be down, the reason for which is unknown. We will be investigating the reason as soon as possible and working to get it back up if it's anything on our end. Worry not, we will be back!
The Aries, Ovis stellantis, was designed by Evelon’s creator, BaalsBaby, in 2006. This means it’s been around since very early in Evelon’s life span, which is evident in the art that appears a bit outdated by today’s pet standards.
The Aries was placed in the same genus (Ovis) as real world sheep for its resemblance to the bighorn sheep. The specific epitaph, stellantis, translates to “starry; having the appearance of stars; set/adorned with stars” and was chosen in reference to their star speckled pelt.
Like their real life counterparts, a group of Aries would be called a “flock”, an adult male a “ram”, an adult female an “ewe”, and a young Aries would be called a “lamb”. To learn more about the Aries and adopt one today, visit their adoption page; http://landsofevelon.com/adopt/Aries/
The Anala, Myrmecophaga pulchella, was designed by staff artist Kodai as one of the pets originally classified as a "mini" for the smaller image size. It's also one of the pets that has undergone a revamp in the past, though sadly I don't have the original art to show.
The Anala was placed in the same genus (Myrmecophaga) as real world anteater, and while it looks more like its cousin the giant anteater it's more along the size of a much smaller anteater, the tamandua. Myrmecophaga refers to their diet, being derived from the Ancient Greek words for 'ant' (myrmeco-) and 'eat' (phagos). The specific epitaph, pulchella, means "pretty" and was chosen in reference to their dainty, ornate appearance in comparison to their real life counterparts.
A young Anala would be referred to as a pup, while its mother would be a sow and its father would be a boar. If you managed to find a group of Anala they would be called a candle, but in general they're a solitary species.
The Rollaby, Wallabia pervolvi, was one of the original pets on Evelon back when it started up back in 2006. Since then, it has undergone a revamp that started out with a sketch done by staff artist Silverin. She and BaalsBaby, site creator, worked together during the revamp of the pet until they reached the final version available on the forums these days.
The Rollaby was placed in the same genus (Wallabia) as a real life animal, the Rock Wallaby. The specific epitaph, pervolvi, refers to their unusual means of locomotion; rolling. Per, meaning "through, thoroughly, or completely" and Volvi meaning "roll, travel in circle/circuit, bring about/around, or revolve." Bring the two together and they travel completely by rolling about.
A young Rollaby would be called a joey, like their wallaby cousins. A group can be refered to as a "court", "mob", or "troupe".
The Tali, Canis pavonis, was the first pet drawn for Evelon! For the longest time, Baal had a hard time getting a grasp on a revamp for the Tali because she considered it to be so special and wanted to make sure the revamp came out the best it could. Speaking of special, on Evelon will officially be ten years old on September 16th! We're here to talk about the Tali today though, so here's a bit of info about them.
Tali were placed in the genus Canis (the same genus that dogs and wolves are in when it comes to the real world), as they are primarily canine in form. They very much seem like they would fit in with the Spitz family. Their specific epitaph, pavonis, means "peacock" in Latin and refers to their feathers and markings. A group of Tali would be called a pack, while their young would be called pups - just like dogs.
For more information on the Tali or adopt one for yourself, check out their adoption page on our website; http://landsofevelon.com/adopt/Tali/
The Albie, Canis hircinis, was designed by the founder of Evelon's little sister, known as Lulu_Fantasy on Evelon's forums. Albie were placed in the genus Canis (the same genus that dogs and wolves are in when it comes to the real world), as they are primarily canine in form, looking very much like a dog. Their specific epitaph, hircinis, means "of a goat" or "goatlike" in Latin, a reference to the heavy horns that they use for hunting, courtship, and fighting for dominance.
Ever wonder what a group of Albie would be called? A pack, just like in wolves and dogs. Similarly, Albie young are called pups.
For more information on the Albie or adopt one for yourself, check out their adoption page on our website!
Phoenix Penguins and Drake Floranas!
Oh hay what's this? Looks like some pets have decided to grow up a little, or a lot (in the case of the Florana)! Photobucket may take a little to update, but owners of the Phoenix Squeaker, Phoenix Aurona or Poison Larvie should soon find their pets growing into the Phoenix Pengi, Phoenix Aura or Drake Florana, respectively! The main site has been updated to include stats for these new forms!
Trait Updates
Man, shrine traits. It'd be nice if people could actually get those, right? Right. As with every other system (breeding, random event, customs, potions), it takes us a good few tries before we find out just what actually works. Getting to actually roleplay with Evelon's lesser deities seemed like a great idea, but in practice it just left users waiting around for staff members that didn't exactly always have the time to keep up with a roleplay for traits. After a long time in the making, I'm here to announce that there has been an update to acquiring shrine traits! Keirn, Temple of the Voices still exists, and you'll still go there if you're seeking to earn a shrine trait. Instead of roleplaying with a staff member though, one of the deities will appear and give you pet a task right off the bat. You can choose to then roleplay on your own or with a partner, returning to the shrine with a link to the RP once it is done. Then, so long as you met the quest parameters, you get the trait! Further information on just what sort of quest your pet might have to do and how to get your traits, head over here As a little side note, you can follow the name of the gods to look at adorable little chibi pictures of them!
As one might expect, there are a lot of concepts that get drawn up and never get used. This one, from waaaay back in 2007 never ended up being used for an official pet. It did end up loosely inspire one of the unique lesser deities on Evelon, Selkat’aris. To this day, she remains the only one of her kind.
A wild RANDOM EVENT appeared!
Well, I've got another update for you guys! Busy week, that's for sure. xD This one isn't the Marketplace, but Random Event (okay I lie, there's a Marketplace thread that's included in this update but shhh). RE has done a small overhaul and abolished tags in favor of a sign up system.
First major chance is that we are doing away with the tags! Instead, there's gonna be a sign up system, and that's right over here. And... well, if you have a read, I'm making it easier for you guys to get exactly what you want. That's right, I'm introducing items to RE! That list is not finalized by any means, and I'll add new items for every new species and coloration that gets released (and I'm also taking suggestions). A small thread exists here with the rundown but feel free to shoot me a question either here or there if you need some explanation!
Next, is that there will be season exclusive pets! During the months of December, January and February you'll be able to find Winter themed pets, Spring themed pets during March, April and May, and so on. These pets can be found in every location, and some will be familiar and some will be brand new! There’s a new thread in the Forum Obtainable Pet Records which will list every wild pet you can find, the areas they can be found in and how many posts it will take to get them to show up. Of course, you'll still need to find the pets for them to be recorded.
You can read more by popping over to the forums and checking out this thread!
Marketplace update!
I know it's only been a day since our last marketplace update, but we have some more news, this time the adjustment of some rules. In order to remind users that all marketplace shops follow the same general rules (though a few have extras of their own), the marketplace rules have been linked as the first rule of each shop. This is in hopes that by linking you to these rules they will not be forgotten, as they are typically the most important of the marketplace rules. Additionally, a subsection of the second marketplace rule - do not edit your posts - has been added as "2a." From now on, when you have sent your Keystones or Goddess Tears and a staff member goes to mark the post as paid, we will be locking your post from further edits. This is just to make life a tiny bit easier for staff. That's all for now, but don't forget to check out our update from yesterday if you missed it!
Marketplace Updates!
Today marks three changes to some marketplace shops, hopefully to make some pets and potions more accessible to users! The Metamorphose Medical Clinic has reduced the price of all experiment pets (excluding the Sickles) by 50%! That means if you've had your eyes on an Avalanche Panzer for a good while but just couldn't afford to spend 750 KS on it, perhaps you'll be able to get it now that it's only 375 KS! The Mage's Brewery has also made a change to how it handles some of its stock. The cheaper, widely available potions are remaining on unlimited stock, but the rare, more expensive potions are now adopting the same system as Huntsman's Hall has for the custom tokens! Starting today, you may purchase up to two of each rare potion per year. This means 2 Elixirs of Fertility, 2 Generative Draughts, and 2 Emission Liquors! This is being considered a test run, and if we find anyone using this new system to buy these potions and sell them for incredible prices we'll add further rules to these sorts of potions (i.e. making them non-tradable). We're hoping that this update will make potions available for more users!
Last but not least, a change has been made to the Equal Pet Exchange so that new users, specifically within three months of joining, may post to claim one free, in stock seasonal of their choice regardless of their point cost. From time to time, random seasonal pets will be added to the Equal Pet Exchange in order to make this possible.
To start things off on my end, I’d like to travel through the creation of one of the pets that I gave the initial inspiration for and enjoyed seeing evolve as Baal brought it to life.
The Kirund was submitted to Contest Number #6 in February of 2008, one of our pet design contests. The concept was a mix between a Cu Sith, thus the green body, a Qilin, and obviously undead. Kodai drew the original and it was given a rough color job by myself for the contest.
As one of the winning designs, the Kirund was chosen to become an official Evelon pet. Our first initial glimpse of what it might end up looking like came in the form of a rough side view sketch without colors, and boy was it looking properly terrifying.
The final outcome of the Kirund had a greatly reduced number of scales and a more muted, putrid green fur coloration. Most definitely a lot easier on the eyes than the original neon green. These ferocious beasts can currently be found as a pet only available for purchase on the forums with our forum currency.
The scientific name Canis marcoris was chosen to keep the Kirund in the general dog genus (Canis) as they remained mostly canine in form. The specific epitaph, marcoris, is latin for decay. As such, the scientific name simply means they are a decaying dog.
Almost a year later, we promise this page still exists!
As of today this page will be run by multiple staff members. Anyone following us here can expect to see more frequent posts, ranging from;
- Concept art
- User submitted/shared art
- Answers to questions
- Notices of any downtime or other forum problems
- And potentially much more!
We want to make this an active Tumblr from now on, using it to get some neat content out to our users that might not have reached them otherwise. If there's anything you can think of to suggest that you would like to see here, you're welcome to drop us a message!
Today marks one of Evelon's biggest moments! After 9 whole years, Evelon's official website has finally gotten a shiny, new makeover! But that's not all. A few old species of ours, including the very first species in Evelon's chronological history, the Tali, have gotten makeovers themselves. So come and join us if you haven't already and check it out.
Brand, spanking new website!
Also, our apologies for some things still not quite available, such as the World, Home, and Shop pages; those will be features to come in the future. The Home page currently links to our Wildlife page until we can figure some things out, so don't worry about that for now.
As well, we've also changed how our animal classes are displayed in the Stats Area to better match the new look of our official site. So, enjoy exploring the new site, and thanks everyone for being here with us on the Lands of Evelon!
Get hype for tomorrow.
