The Ojibwe nailed it. Wawa is exactly the right name for a goose.
Speaking of Ojibwe! There’s a new point and click game to help teach the language! It’s called Reclaim! Azhe-giiwewining, and is currently on sale on Steam!
for the first time since the kids were born, I had the opportunity to go cloudberry picking. I'm happy I'm able to be here now, around this time of the year, since me free time is limited and I've spent my previous summer vacations for the past 8 or so years at the kids' bio mom's home town instead. this also means I had to wait until today to take the kids cloudberry picking while all berry and mushroom picking were a big part of my own childhood. I'm glad to see them get excited for it, and for processing the berries, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to introduce them to things like this. I also have to note, once again, that my autistic kid finds a very specific kind of joy in picking berries and mushrooms and he can get very zoned in and not want to leave at all, which I consider to be a very positive "problem".
can you guys tell me your favorite biome and where you’re from. maybe why you like it too. mine is taiga and alpine tundra
I could never give up the temperate forests of Mi'kma'ki 🖤 between the many rivers/lakes and the diverse spread of different tree types - that btw look especially beautiful in Autumn - it's easy to feel comfort!
I understand why you love it I would love to see it. The colors and different plants are so beautiful and warm together. I love the sápmi tundra and taiga especially in winter. some people think it’s harsh and unwelcoming but they don’t know her like I do…
(first pic is mine, the others are from google)
I guess I'm filing this under places the beauty of which can't be captured by photos
I love having pristine mental health. I'm staying at my mother's childhood home and doing my usual activities ie going mushroom picking and just. walking around the forest. and there's this thicket where I KNOW there are vipers or at least one viper and I'm constantly like. what if. I somehow missed the viper biting me? maybe I DID notice but forgot about it? because it's sooo easy to miss getting bitten or to forget all about it...

look I don't think treating sex repulsion and a strong reaction over anything sex related or suggestive as an inherent part of asexuality (for some aces) is any different from going "oh, it's only natural for gay men to be repulsed by women" (which would be obvious misogyny) or to think it's only natural for straight people to be equally repulsed by anything gay. the fact that you don't experience attraction that would fit that specific thing doesn't mean repulsion is a neutral feeling towards it.
does anyone know if there are any viable alternatives to galaxy/apple watches? any smart watch with an e-sim option or something similar
both of my parents worked in construction until they retired and ever since I first mived out I've had the same problem with each apartment I've lived in; my childhood home was designed/planned and built by my parents, with the floor plans and types of storage space available etc carefully thought out to fit their/our needs, and absolutely no apartment can live up to the standards set by all that. no apartment I've lived in since moving out has had the same amount of thought put into how shit fits into the available space.
this has very little to do with anything this blog is about but I absolutely hate the term loveless for several reasons. the easiest to explain but also least relevant reason is that my number one association with the word is the manga called Loveless. it also makes me feel like an edgy emo teen. and, most importantly, it just doesn't feel fitting to me, personally, and the reasons why (beyond what I already listed) are much harder to explain. I could split the explanation into two sections: 1) I hate how in these conversations, attraction is equated with an experience of love. especially when talking about romantic and tertiary attractions, the words "attraction" and "love" are often used pretty much interchangably where as I see these as two separate things. add to that the fact that "love" is not an easily defined concept, it really does bother me. 2) it feels just... overly individualistic? like I existed in a vacuum, or entirely cut off from other people, or that the only thing that could ever define my existence is how I relate to others and never how others relate to me. saying I'm "loveless" because I don't experience a feeling I could label as "love" or because I don't feel a pull towards other (be it romantic or platonic or.....) when I know for a fact I have people in my life who do experience something they would call love and who feel that way towards me doesn't feel any different from trying to remove other "external" definers (such as family ties).
this isn't about anyone else using the term for themselves. this is entirely about how I feel about it in relation to myself. it does irk me that that's the default term bit that's entirely my issue and nobody else's.
idk if anyone here knows the (card) game Fluxxbut uhhh tfw your autistic 6-year-old who struggles greatly with adapting to changes and things not going exactly as he has plans them going gets obsessed with a card gane where the whole thing is that the goal AND the rules are ever changing and the chabges happen rapidly
someone: [describes a very mature, delicate sounding tattoo they've recently got] but I'd also like something with ace symbolism to go along with it? does anyone have any suggestions on what I could go for?
the tumblr ace community, apparently consisting entirely of 6-year-olds and people whose interests match those of the said 6-year-olds: DRAGONS! IN SPACE!! EATING GARLIC BREAD!!! AND CAKE!!!!

sometimes I'll be like. ehhh surely I'm not actually any kind of ND, I've been mistaken, none of this shit affects me. and then I'll be doing all my adult responsibilites at 1am because it's dark and quiet and I don't have another thing scheduled until the morning and all lights and sounds and knowing I can't use just as much time on a thing as I feel I need are all distractions that prevent me from thinking and focusing.
I don't think I will ever understand the dutch attirude towards biking helmets. like "oh but we've got good infrastructure" and "our drivers aren't assholes" and "we know how to ride bikes" okay? none of these things make biking helmets obsolete?
I don't care much about what's on TV but I'm genuinely happy Sampo Marjomaa is back to hosting a funiest home video type show for the simple reason of his show, in specific, being a celebration of the art of translation. The ppl on the videos mostly speak English and the subs are fucking 20/10, an example of whath happens when you can just do your job and have fun. The subs just said "moiQQu".
I don't think I will ever get over the fact that the Finnish word for pairing up two electronic devices (such as your phone and your wireless headphones) is the same word that's used for pimping.
