Lovely article 🥰
SEASON 3, episode 6 spoilers***
Rue getting hit by Jules and not fighting back was deeply sad to me on so many levels. I felt sad for Rue for being slapped for telling Jules the truth that she didn’t want to hear. I feel sad for Hunter - whose character has been completely assassinated and what’s left is a shell of a person she was. When I think of season 1 Jules and her now, she is not a person, she’s a plot device for shock effect. And like this creator said, I feel heartbroken for the part of Rue that feels like she deserved to be treated like that especially when all she was saying to Jules is that she deserves better.
soft glam + spider shirt ! it’s starting already and since she’s in london i’m betting on joint tz interviews
Gorgeous 😍
“The show tries to say something real about the psychological damage of being objectified so young and early…the show tries to critique the sexualization of women but Sam Levinson’s camera does the exact opposite”
Tom rant incoming***
It is incredibly frustrating when someone is penalized for having a healthy relationship with their work—especially in an industry that often glamorizes burnout. Tom’s approach isn't a lack of ambition; it’s a masterclass in professional integrity and self-preservation.
In an industry that demands constant visibility, there is something deeply radical about Tom’s stillness. He isn't 'slowing down'; he’s being intentional. We should be applauding an artist who refuses to saturate the market just for the sake of a paycheck, choosing instead to wait for the projects that actually spark a fire. It’s not a lack of work ethic—it’s a commitment to excellence.
The criticism Tom faces for taking breaks is exactly why the 'hustle culture' in Hollywood is so toxic. He is setting a vital example for his generation by prioritizing his well-being and mental clarity over a relentless production schedule. To call him 'lazy' for being cautious and wise with his energy is a fundamental misunderstanding of what it takes to sustain a long, genuine career.
What makes Tom so magnetic isn’t just his talent, but his authenticity. That genuineness remains intact because he refuses to become a cog in the Hollywood machine. By choosing inspiration over obligation, he ensures that when he does show up, he’s giving us his absolute best. He’s choosing to be a human being rather than a brand, and that’s exactly why he’s so respected by those who value substance.
AND…
I HATE when he is called a simp. It is disheartening when the world tries to weaponize a man’s devotion as a weakness. Using a term like "simp" to describe Tom’s relationship completely misses the point: it takes security and confidence to celebrate a partner’s success as loudly as he does and to be so open-hearted with and about his love for her.
In a culture that often prizes "cool" detachment or competitive egos, his openness is actually a sign of emotional intelligence.
There is nothing more confident than a man who isn’t threatened by his partner’s light. Tom doesn’t just 'support' his wife; he champions her. To label that as anything other than a secure, healthy, and deeply modern love is a reflection of the critic’s own insecurities, not a flaw in his character. He’s proving that being a partner means being her loudest and biggest fan.
In an era of 'situationships' and hesitation, Tom’s decision to commit wholeheartedly—proposing and marrying without ego-driven delays—is a breath of fresh air. He’s showing that when you find something genuine, you protect it and celebrate it. He isn't 'simping'; he’s being a partner who actually values the person he’s with.
We claim to want 'genuine' people in the spotlight, yet when a public figure shows real, unvarnished love for his wife, he’s mocked for it. Tom’s willingness to tell the world how talented and beautiful she is isn’t a performance—it’s an overflow of his happiness. It’s a shame that this culture finds sincere affection more ‘cringe’ than cynical detachment.
His unbridled delight by just being in her presence is a beautiful and endearing thing to witness. May he always feel that level of safety and security to be fully himself.
I would recommend that people that wait for many projects from him better pick other new male actors. Tom not consistent in what he wants,it's confusing and frustrating.
I can’t speak for others, everyone is different and has their own expectations and hopes for their favorite actors. For me, I watch a lot of movies and shows, it’s a favorite hobby of mine, so there are a lot of actors that I enjoy to watch and follow their career. Tom is not the only one, he just has a special spot in my corner.
The thing about Tom that makes him stand out as a favorite is, he has a unique level of genuineness and charm as a person that I don’t find common in most actors. Like Jon said, he’s a good person and it’s not hard to see, so naturally I feel drawn to him to want to watch and root for, and I also feel like his genuineness is something that adds a naturalistic quality to his performances. It’s something that I personally don’t really see within a lot of other new male actors. There are lots that are also talented in their own way that I enjoy watching as well, I am not downplaying that at all, I’m just pointing out why Tom stands out enough to me personally that compels me to dedicate the time I do as a fan.
Also, when I first became a fan of his, it was 2017. He was very different with his interactions online and with his work ethic, as well as his openness with plans and intentions. The transition into how he is with it all now has taken time to navigate and it’s admittedly hard not to miss what it used to be like.
With hollywood being toxic and corrupt and many other things, his sincerity is something that repels that atmosphere, which leads to why he is the way he is about working nowadays. So at the end of the day, we can’t have both the good guy he is and the workaholic we selfishly wish he was. If we want to stay as a fan, we have to learn patience with his inconsistency, support and enjoy what he gives, and hope that it doesn’t go away. The frustration is natural to come out sometimes though 😭
Yes to a lot of the points raised here…I LOVE the way Tom is…a smart, confident, genuine, kind man who seems to prioritize his personal life over his work (although every single one of his costars who speak out about him talk about his amazing work ethic, including his wife who cannot stop talking about how hard he works and how much he cares about his roles). He has admitted that he does not like Hollywood and tries to protect himself where possible from some of its toxic effects. I love that he takes breaks, stays away from social media, makes it a point to spend time with loved ones and only gets involved with projects he feels genuinely connected to or inspired by. This is such healthy behaviour and I’m thrilled he is like this and hope he continues to operate with this level of care and wisdom in his life.
My longing and potential disappointment over not seeing him in more performances doesn’t matter because I’M A STRANGER ON THE INTERNET. His humanity matters more than my entertainment and pleasure. (This goes for Zendaya as well)
Every word of this.
***SPOILERS FOR THE DRAMA***
I just watched THE DRAMA for a third time. During the time after Emma’s disclosure, as she was explaining what it was like for her then, Charlie wasn’t listening to her. It was subtle, but he was judging her - implying that her bullying may not have been that bad or that she was a fraud for advocating for gun violence or that the reason she didn’t go through it was a fluke. Yet in the flashback, we see a neglected, bullied, enraged, suicidal young black girl. When Emma learned about the mall shooting, she immediately destroyed everything that had to do with her plans and the montage further gave the impression that it was finally being seen by her peers that was the turnaround for her. I think if Emma was far gone, the mall shooting wouldn’t have stopped her. I think the reality hit and in the aftermath of that incident she found community. Another realization - in the video she was trying to make, she said ‘I’m not going to be here much longer. She was homicidal AND suicidal.
I’m not very happy that they ended up together. I think Emma ended up with the kind of person who would have bullied her in high school. She ended up with a person who cared more about his image than his fiancée/wife.
In the last scene of MALCOLM AND MARIE, Marie finally explains why she was hurt that Malcolm didn’t thank her. I had a similar urge to express to Charlie why he was wrong for judging her and caring more about what his horrible friends thought.
She was a deeply neglected broken girl who was ostracized. She was profoundly alone and enraged at the world and didn’t want to be alive anymore. She was smart and deeply feeling and just wanted to belong. The moment belonging found her, she found a reason to live and no longer cared about taking out her pain on others. She grew into a smart, beautiful, caring woman, who unfortunately didn’t have the kind of friends she eventually found in high school. I wish Emma would have walked away.
