Small rebrand announcement: this blog is now entering its Zen era. As this is a Zendaya fan blog I will personally be taking guidance from the patron saint of minding your business and looking gorgeous while doing it.

I’m not interested in feeding into doom and gloom paranoia, obsessing over obvious or not so obvious bait or giving attention to people who clearly are not fans but are pretending to be and just want to get a rise out of everyone for entertainment.

I want this space to be fun. I want to talk about the things I actually enjoy, share excitement, post pretty pictures, laugh and have good discussions and not endless circular outrage over anonymous trolls with too much free time.

So from now on: no paranoia, no bait, no negativity. Instead more fun, more sincerity, more enjoying things and more positive vibes.

You think Pepper Potts character had background development other than being Iron Man's girl? Is it because she got to wear the suit?...I don't remember getting actual background on her. I could be wrong or misunderstanding what you're saying.

I try to remember these are super hero movies about the...Superhero lol. I don't know how much to expect from other characters. I do agree that Kirstens MJ had a little more storyline.

It's been forever since I've seen the Iron Man movies but from memory she came off like a well realized character, better than most other love interests. Not so much about knowing her actual background in the sense where she came from but having her own perspective and making meaningful choices. She made decisions, disagreed with Tony, solved problems and influenced the plot rather than simply reacting to it. And Pepper killed two of the bad guys in 3 Iron Man movies, never forget 😄

Obviously the superhero will always be the focal point but there can be some middle grould between that and the supporting characters only exist in relation to them. Even small moments can go a long way toward making a character like MJ feel like she has a life and purpose beyond her relationship to Peter/SM.

The movie having a 2 hour and 30 minute runtime is crazy. This is why some trailers are misleading so I will wait for the movie before making assumptions about her screentime. I would rather have her in a small role than a lot of screentime of her just being a concerned girlfriend.

There's a lot we haven't seen yet. It's not about screentime per se but what the character is allowed to do with the screentime they have. Let's give Destin and team a chance and see what they do first, we can always complain afterwards 😄

The best way to approach MJ in BND is to follow her motto "expect disappointment and you will never be disappointed". The movie will be overstuffed with characters plus Peter will be at least temporarily turning into Man-Spider and neither Ned nor MJ remember Peter and 4 years have passed since NWH. That leaves very little movie time to develop MJ outside of her effect on Peter. It is what it is. At least we are getting MJ and Ned as Peter's neighbors. The movie could have been set before they had returned to NYC and we would just have seen them in screens while Peter was checking their social media posts

If people want to know more about Michelle Jones-Watson they have to go to ao3 and follow a core group of writers that have developed great back stories for her & not depend on shitty Marvel movies. Shout-out to @spideyxchelle who wrote some of the first spideychelle fics and even came up with the last name Jones, only to be hijacked by Marvel later. Shout-out also to seekrest and the other wonderful writers that have done 1000x more for the character than Sony or Marvel have ever done

I get what you're saying and I think it's great that fans have created a community for those people who like to read fanfics and have the option to explore MJ and other characters more than the movies ever could have time for.

But the existence of fan created stories should not let Marvel or Sony off the hook, they exist in the comics too. We should still expect the people making the movies to do right by her character and make her a more fully realized person.

We're not asking for a massive subplot dedicated to MJ's family history. But some meaningful details (even mentioend in passing), some indication of her life outside of Peter, her goals, relationships and struggles that don't revolve around Spider-Man would go a long way. Marvel has done that better in past movies with Pepper and Kirsten's MJ for example, they can do it here too. The fact that fans have built compelling backstories for Zendaya's MJ is a testament to the character's potential, not an excuse for the films to ignore it.

I'd love it if the movie explored more of MJ's background. The previous films have only really hinted that things aren't exactly perfect at home. In NWH it's kind of implied that Peter met her dad and her saying she doesn't go by Watson suggest maybe she doesn't have the best relationship with her mother? I'd love to see that explored.

Liza is playing a cop or agent who somehow becomes connected to Spider-Man and I don't think they've revealed her character's name yet so it's possible from a casting perspective and she would fit the role. But I honestly hope MJ gets to have parts of her character and backstory that are entirely her own rather than everything tying back to Spider-Man.

Especially now that there are rumors her boyfriend might turn out to be a Spidey villain it would be nice if she had at least one storyline that exists independently of Peter. I know it's a superhero movie so I'm probably asking for too much lol. But come on, let the girl have ONE thing that's hers alone.
