Timely, Diane. Hitting me right where it hurts.
“Wouldn’t it be funny if this night was last time we ever talked to each other?”
Bye, BoJack.

I am glad that Diane moved on and got married to another guy. BUT. HARD BUT. Unlike other recent animated shows, nothing is that ambiguous. Nor is it set in stone. The seried ends with a romantic song. This has been happening for six seasons; it's been narratively built up. When Diane thanks knowing the people she knows and also says thank you to Bojack and thanks that she "knew" him. Bojack challenges the word "knew." Bojack attempts to tell a funny story. But it is their dynamic again. Talking about their lives as best friends. Diane also laughs along. But then they are sitting side by side. It's quiet. Both seem to turn to each other. You can see through body language they wanna say things. They have many things left to say.
The show kinda made it clear it was NOT over for them.
It somewhat cemented this when the romantic song started to play.
The thing is BoDiane is canon.
It's always been.
But they both werent ready to have a relationship with each other as there were complications.
However, the show respectfully show that they have deep feelings and emotions for each other. As friends. And, as people who love each other. Also, romantically love one another.
That is why the bittersweet yet melodic love song starts to play.
Maybe, someday, somewhere, in the future, they are gonna end up together.
I am glad the show acknowledged that BoDiane is canon. Yet, they did in a way that old cartoons and animes used to do. Not so subtly to miss its mark. And, not so explicitly to make it feel rushed or cliched or narratively problematic.
It was just right. The ambience, the music, the sitting side by side - you can see the love just there and the love and bond that was meant to be.
Just binge watched the last season of Bojack.
I was expecting the finale to make me feel something. Happy, angry, overwhelming depressed. I didn’t expect a happy ending of course, but I don’t know.
In the end, I actually just feel empty.

“Ci sono certe amicizie destinate a finire. Senza rimpianti, senza rancore.
