Ok so I didn’t know daydreaming about whump was so common?? Wow. It should work the opposite way but imagining being tortured and acting a little bit of it out helps me sleep?? I pretend I’m a character and rescued after and then fall unconscious in someone’s arms and it works every time. Sometimes it takes me longer so I pretend like I’m in the ICU afterwards, listening half-conscious as people whisper about me in concern
About the horses--
So the issue I kept running into was that I couldn't come up with a good reason that the Ravens wouldn't have already eaten the horses. There have been hardly any animals in my setting so far. Horses are big animals! But I liked the IDEA of horses so much... I couldn't replace the mental image I had with something else, like a jeep. Horses... after I saw The VVitch movie, and the scene where the kids are walking through the woods and the girl is on the horse-- wow, I couldn't just not put a horse in this bad boy.

The latest chapter of my ongoing apocalypse fic titled fox.hunt.hound is now up on ao3! The premise of the fic is sort of an apocalypse-y, dark comedy situation where Neil joins up with the Foxes, who are being hunted by the Ravens, for survival purposes, and accidentally pisses off everyone. Pretty much everyone sustains medically significant amounts of brain damage. It's a great time.
An extra special thanks, by the way, to all of you who have stuck with this fic for so long. I know I've been a bit slow updating recently, and for that I am very sorry! But I promise (a blessing or a curse?) I will never... NEVER... give up on this fic till its been driven to the GRAVE. <3
