I enjoy making fun little bracelets for the things I love and I love love love Project Hail Mary. For the movie coming out, I made a little bracelet to wear when I see it :)
I have so many feelings about this ending, I need to write it down somewhere. It's gonna be a rambling mess but this is for me really...
Spoilers under the cut I guess
I feel dissapointed... I feel like there is a need to be grateful we got anything, but seeing how they chose to end this story.... I'd rather we got nothing.
I will always have the book, I fell in love with this story before it ever became a TV show. But the show made me love Aziraphale and Crowley and their relationship so much. I don't know what I was expecting but to be wiped from existence and brought back; not only as humans but completely different characters, felt wrong.... who are these people? I don't know them, I didn't follow them for 7 years.
I feel like I'm grieving. Like, after a few hours of processing, I just started crying. Which sounds so silly because it's a piece of media... but it's also a piece of media that defined a lot in my life. I have a tattoo for gods sake. My closest friend and I refer to eachother as Aziraphale and Crowley.
I didn't hate it all. There were bits I enjoyed. Jesus, even if he had little to do, was sweet. I loved seeing Crowley and Aziraphale interacting again. It was nice to see the role reversal of Aziraphale saving Crowley.
But it also felt rushed. I found myself looking for the breaks of which episode would have been each plot point. It felt too cramped, with little development in each story line and no strong guiding thread to get from the beginning to the end. The characters, as much as I love them, fell flat. No real reconciliation, no growth shown. I can understand why Crowley made that decision at the end , but little was done to show that shift of insight , at least for the audience.
I wish God wasnt there. Love the fact they were a beautful black woman but it did nothing for the story in my opinion. It makes sense for them to be there , because how do you fix reality being destroyed? I wish they took it in a different direction. Maybe, Adam and Jesus coming together with humans, heaven, hell and humanity working together to save their existence... idk, they only had 90 min...
The point of the novel showed it was humanity and their free will that stopped the apocalypse. Humanity and their free will had the power to shift a divine plan. Yet , when it came down to it , divine intervention had to save the day to save humanity.
In addition, even past the book , a huge portion of the story was driven by how people matter. The historical scenes with heavens lack of care for humanity and their lives ( flood, job). The choice to just.... delete all those beings and start over.... feels contrarian to the main theme of "people do matter and you can't just kill/ replace them"....
Also, the ending being driven by the complete destruction of reality by apathetically ripping out pages from a book and burning them. The second coming didn't even matter to the story. Nothing felt like it MATTERED.
Side note, the entire book was burned, except for the bookshop, why were Crowley and Aziraphale still around?
Writing this out is helping, I think....
Aziraphale and Crowley did not get their happy ending... a facsimile of them did but it was not THEM. They died, they're gone. I personally believe, once a consciousness is gone... that person is dead; even if they have the same body. If all those memories that made that person no longer exist... then they are a new being.
I dont even care about a kiss, I just wanted them to feel some peace and care for each other in some way but they don't exist now. ( they never existed its fiction) yes, yes, yes but isnt eveything else? " we're all just stories in the end" and all that.
Maybe I'm just too attached to stories...
I dont want to stop loving good omens because of this ending... it's happened with so many series: stranger things, GoT, community, umbrella academy, our flag...
I have my book, I have the first season. Hell, if I'm feeling up to it, the second and maybe a fan fiction here or there.
I'm just gonna be a little sad for now and finish grieving what could have been.
I think this ending could’ve worked if the first season stayed truer to the book and season two never existed. But they didn’t and it does so here we are. I loved the book, but in the book they were just two silly characters trying to save the world in their own misguided way. When the show came out it was so much more character focused on Crowley and Aziraphale. Especially with the flash back episode opener, and Michael and David’s perfect chemistry. The show became so focus on them and fleshing them out, that the original theme of the book was no longer why a lot of us watched. Imagine book one being about the Antichrist and then the second book being about the second coming; both sides doing the same thing in their own way. With god being a stand in for the author (the bit about keeping it a clean story). I think that’s why this ending felt so wrong, the show had become something completely separate from the books, so much so that an ending that would’ve been perfect for the books couldn’t ever be right for the show.
Idk if I’m explaining myself well or if this is going to make sense to anyone. But reading the book and seeing GO3 makes sense to me. It’s just that I fell in love with the love story of Crowley and Aziraphale.
I agree. The show and the book became two separate entities. A joke in the book was that the angel and demon had very little impact on the events in the story, inconsequential, even. But the story became so much more character driven in the show. The little that had been written for the 2nd novel did not fit into the way the show developed. I would have been happy with just season one. But you gave me season 2 and I fell more in love with the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley. This ending works so well for the book but as character driven as the show became, it felt disloyal to the characters.
Excuse me fandom playlist makers. How do you seriously look at Dr. Ryland Grace; middle school science teacher, with those dorky ass shirts and not add at least one They Might be Giants song.
Oh man, I'm tired. But I'm glad i commited to the bit and actually finished this, full color and all! It was an uphill battle, because of the power outages almost daily, how many details i added, busy life, my mental illnesses lol But! Is finished, at last! Self indulgent, i know.
