NINETIES TOONS WITH ATTITUDE!

After growing up with a lot of "urban" (read: Black culture) t-shirts of the Looney Tunes in the 90's, I wanted to do a throwback based on one. This one is based on the same shirt with Bugs and Taz.

In this case, I went with Susie Carmichael from All Grown Up and Jodie Landon from Daria as more gangsta versions.

It's a mix of the idea of corruption, defying the "perfect negro" identity that they had to deal with (they couldn't just be Black, they had to be incredibly successful to justify being in a white world), and subverting expectations.

Susie is based more on Ice-T, and Jodie more on 2Pac.

There's also subversions on top of that, especially with Jodie. Look at her hand. Look at the clothes.

This is meant to be provocative and have you ask questions.

As someone who grew up with this being expected of me for being Black, and still struggling with these identity issues today, I wanted to explore them in a different way.
