“You can invite him if you want, I’m not interested in a date, I’m interested in talking to you.” he said shrugging. “You seem nice and you’re obviously smart. Part of a secondary world or not; I’d like to be your friend.” he said honestly. “No dating, nothing of our common interest if it suits you. Can even bring your boyfriend along.” he said nodding. 

Jesse wasn’t trying to bring any trouble; but the only person besides Lydia he’d met around here was Laura. Both were nice; and maybe friends if things went well. “So, coffee and homework while we talk?” he offered.

Lydia looked at him confused. She didn’t understand what he was really interested in. Lydia was trying to find a motive behind his words but she could not really. He was also okay with her bringing someone which made her feel better even if she didn’t have a boyfriend to bring. She could bring Theo if she really needed to.

“Fine. Coffee and homework.” She agreed as she looked him over once more. “Just don’t get the wrong idea and expect questions. I ask a lot of them.” Lydia warned as she looked down at her book again.

What I’ve Done

Theo paid for a few cups of coffee; glad the place was open late for college kids who wanted their coffee fix. He sighed, around one he was going to call it quits for the night and head back to his apartment when the phone rang, he waited a minute; not recognizing the number and answered it. “Hello?” he asked, calmly; his tone a little excited at the thought that it was Lydia.

He hoped she wasn’t calling to tell him off, or telling him to leave her alone. He’d been let down enough in New York and he knew it was his fault but he was trying to make things right. That had to count for something. He waited for a response; practically shaking from anticipation.

Just hearing his voice made her sigh. She could not believe that she was calling Theo right now. Her words were caught in her throat for a second before she could actually say anything. “Come over and we can talk.” She practically whispered before hanging up on him.

Lydia ran her hands through her hair as she got up to already let him in. There were going to be rules and if he could not follow them then she would not help him.

Jesse paused as she listed out he names. “Look, I know know who they are.” he said shaking his head. “I just know Laura; that’s all. Whatever trouble you think I’m here to bring or cause; I’m not. I’m just here to take the classes and get paid so I can get stuff for the week.” he said shaking his head. “I’m sorry for bringing it up, I thought you were okay with the whole, you know.” he said.

“Let me make it up, I can buy you some coffee and we can talk; about whatever you want.” he said, he wasn’t asking her out; so he hoped it didn’t seem like that. But he hadn’t met many supernatural creatures he hadn’t needed to kill, or any hunters that weren’t an ass to him for being so young.

Hearing he didn’t actually know the rest of them made her feel somewhat better. She was glad that he at least didn’t know them but, being in this town she figured he could get to know them soon enough. “I’m really not okay with any of this. I don’t know you and I don’t want to know you now. Don’t talk to me about things like that especially out in the open.” 

She rolled her eyes only to shake her head at his offer, “I don’t think my boyfriend would like that too much.” Lydia said hoping he would get the hint she was not interested into him. The last thing she wanted to talk about was supernatural or be questioned by a hunter.

“Sounds like a promising profession.” he smiled. “I hope you get in, and with how hard you seem to be studying; it seems like you will with no problem.” he said before pausing. “I don’t want anything, I’m here for exactly the same reason I said I was. I’m sorry if I brought up some bad feelings; but I’m not involved in anything. I just thought you might be someone to talk to is all.” he said. 

He wondered what happened to Lydia that would make her so against this life. He could understand himself that being against this life was easy but from someone who seemed to be something; she was pretty distant from herself. “If you don’t mind me asking, what are you?”

“I know it is. I don’t plan on giving up either.” She said with her head held high still. Lydia knew that she would get into the medical field that she wanted. She was determined and with her IQ it would take a lot to break her down now.

“If I really wanted to talk to someone about it, I would talk to Theo, Liam, Peter, Chris, all the people that came from my town originally.” She huffed just thinking about it. Lydia thought she could get away from it all but, it all just seamed to follow and the one cute stranger she talks to is a hunter. “This is not the place to talk about something like that.”

What I’ve Done

Theo headed out of the apartment complex, hands in his pockets as he shook his head. Going to her and letting her know about things going on in New York might have been a mistake, but it was a risk he was willing to take. Lydia and Liam were friends, If anyone aside from Peter could have helped him; it would have been Lydia. All he wanted was some insight. 

Some time later; He sighed and checked his phone every few minutes as he sat in a cafe not too far from Lydia’s apartment building. He shook his head; he doubted she’d call but he hoped she would, he wanted nothing more for her to call. He wanted to learn about Liam, Peter was helping move it along but Lydia was his friend. She might be able to help more.

Lydia stared at the file for awhile. She finally grabbed the file and went through it multiple times. It was true, everything he said about him and Liam being related was true and that only made it harder for her to stay mad at him. After everything he did that was still Liam’s brother.

It made her unable to sleep knowing that he really had begged her to help. She looked at the clock only to sigh seeing it was one AM. Just one call. She was only going to call him once and if he didn’t answer then it would be over and she could move on without any guilt. Grabbing her phone she called the number on the paper.

“Uh, not sure. Survivalist I guess.” he said shrugging at the question. “I do what I have to with the least amount of problems.” he said smiling. “I’m just not very lucky in terms of life.” he said shrugging  and nodding. “Fair enough, grades are important; especially if you want a good job in the future. I just suggest a break every now and then.” 

“Wow, they must have some reach to see you so surprised to hear that name.” he said before smiling. “I don’t want anything, I just met a Hale the other day and you seemed stressed. I thought it might be a little paranormal trouble so I took a shot. I’m a hunter; only those who do wrong though. I don’t hunt like the others I’ve heard of. Uh, Kate? Or something? Laura said she was a nasty hunter.” he said.

Hearing he was a survivor spiked her interest for a moment. “Sounds interesting enough.” She agreed. “Going into the medical field so I have to stay focused. A break is for people who can not keep up.. I do what I need to.” Lydia said with a small chuckle.

The more he talked about the Hales and when he said he was a hunter she was already going to close her book. “Look guy.. I don’t know who you have talked to, I don’t know what you want. I’m not about to get involved with this again. If you are a hunter then just stay away from me. I left that life behind.” She said going to stand up with her books.

“Not really about the money for me. I can’t afford to attend classes here so I figured out a way for people to pay me to attend school here.” he said shrugging a bit. “And Lucky isn’t a word I’d use to describe me, but I’ll take it.” he said before nodding. He could feel something was up with this girl; he just didn’t know what.

“Its a good way to pass, but I’m sure you’d like to enjoy some of your college experience rather than spend most of it looking through books.” he said before looking at her, tilting his head. He decided to test something out, wondering if Lydia was part of his world. It would explain the stress and her reason for wanting to just relax. “Hale” he said simply; judging her reaction.

“It sounds like a good deal for you at least. I wish someone would pay me to attend classes for them.” She mumbled as she looked away from him again. “What word would you use then? If not lucky.” She asked curiously hoping that he didn’t mind the question.

“I try to keep my grades up as much as I can. I won’t get anything less than an A and if that means keeping my head into my books then so be it.” She said simply only to shrug slightly. Lydia’s head snapped up hearing him. This was just perfect. Another person attached to the Hale’s. “What do you want?”

“I just get paid to sit here and ace the tests. Not learn names of teachers I’ll only see once a week.” he said rolling his eyes. He could tell without any supernatural powers the girl was lying or at least he didn’t believe her. Short answers and the word “Fine” were never a good sign of someone being okay; more so the word of someone upset or distressed. 

“Staying focused is fine, but you’ve got to have some fun. You’re in college? Do you never plan to cut loose a little? I’m not saying go drink, do drugs or anything like that but party a little; have some fun.” he suggested. “Lydia, pretty name.” he nodded. 

“So, how do you have fun? Because studying seems really, really boring.”

Lydia sighed slightly hearing that. Someone was paying him to be there while she was paying to actually attend the school. “Lucky you. Get to attend classes and make money.” She said pressing her lips together as she thought about it.

She knew that she was just being suborn and he was not really fair to him. Lydia had just met him and was taking her stress out on him. When he mentioned her name being pretty she lifted her head to look at him, scanning him for a moment. “Thank you.. I just try to stay focused personally.”

What I’ve Done

Theo sighed and tossed the paper down on a table. “My number is on the paper. If, by some miracle you agree to help me. Give me a call. I don’t care what terms I have to agree to in order for oyu to help me. I’ll agree.” he said as he headed to the door. “I know, I have no right asking for help. I’m sorry to have come to you and I’m sorry I destroyed what you had in Beacon.” he said pausing.

“But I want to make good by what I did. Liam, You, Peter. I resurrected Laura. His niece for just a chance to find Liam and since then I’ve been under his watch; and I told him if I get out of line. To kill me. I’m not that bad of a guy, I just made bad choices. And I’m sorry” Theo headed out of the apartment and closed the door behind him; sighing. 

“Fuck…” he muttered.

“You destroyed everything. I moved to try and get away from you and everything else.” She said only to glare and point to the door wanting him out. Lydia knew that the second he walked out she was going to look at those files. See if he was actually telling the truth for once.

Lydia sighed as she locked the door behind him. Her fingers rushed through her hair as she tried to process everything that had happened. The first thing she did was go and see if he was even being truthful about Liam only to sigh when she saw it was true.

“Okay good, I’m in the right class.” he said, his hair covered by his beanie; black with a red chaos wheel imprinted on the front. He wore his normal attire; a black leather jacket; a t-shirt; a silver chain with a pendant hidden under his shirt. Today’s t-shirt was all black with the Arkham Knight character logo imprinted on it in red with black jeans and his black boots. He thought it suited him well. He looked at Lydia, the girl seemed tense; even a little off. 

“You okay? You seem a bit stressed. I kind of thought college was more fun; like a party. You seem like you just got thrown out of a party. I’m Jesse by the way.” he said smiling at her.

“You realize we are about half way done with the class, right? I would hope you knew if you were in the right class by now.” She said looking back down at her notes as she began writing again. His question seamed strange to her even if she didn’t say it out loud. He should know his teacher by now and he should of known if this was his class.

“Fine.” Of course it was a small lie. There was a million things going on her head but, she was not about to tell a stranger anything. “College could be like a party. If you decided not to care about grades or anything else for that matter. I would rather stay focused.” She said still looking at her paper. “Lydia..”

What I’ve Done

“Then don’t forgive me…just help me…” he said shaking his head, his voice cracked a little. He shook his head and paused and sat down on the couch and sighed as he buried his face in his hands and moved his hands. “This isn’t a game, this isn’t like last time…” he said handing Lydia the blood test results he obtained. “I want to do right, I’m not a good person but I want to try; for Liam please.” he said, practically begging. 

This was Theo’s last hope. Colin had barred him from seeing or talking to Liam. He didn’t blame the guy; Theo would have done the same thing. He looked up at Lydia. “Liam’s boyfriend; he won’t let me talk to him; even punched me and threatened to kill me. So yeah, that’ll make you smile at least…” he said shaking his head. 

“Please help me Lydia, I just want my family…”

“I don’t believe you and I have no reason to believe you. How do I know this is not like last time? I don’t trust you. You just admitted to stalking me when I moved across the country this sounds like a total game to you and I’m not going to play with you this time.” She said with a small glare as she looked at him. Her eyes darted to the paper but, she didn’t take it.

“I’m not helping you, Theo.” Lydia said sternly as she shook her head and took a step back. “I think you should leave and deal with the consequences you made for yourself.” She said looking from him to the door.

College Classes

Jesse walked through security and headed to the English hall. Given how much money he made; and that he gave most of it to the boy’s home he was currently stay in. Jesse had learned to make a few extra bucks taking classes and tests for people. He passed his number around campus and he took their classes. It worked for him he got an education and some extra cash. People were always more than happy to pay him for his services; usually getting an A on their tests. 

He walked into English and looked for a seat. He tried to sit in the back but there were no more seats open. He shrugged and sat down next to a girl with strawberry blonde hair; he leaned back in his seat and looked over at her. 

“Uh; Hey. What’s the teachers name?”

Lydia had finally found somewhat of a challenge with college. Taking honors classes along with different activities on campus made her days go by faster. It was better than worrying every moment about Liam or Peter or if someone was planning on going after her. College was her escape and she planned on keeping it that way.

She had just been finishing off notes from her last class when the stranger sat next to her. At first Lydia didn’t plan on acknowledging him but, when he spoke she lifted her head to look over at him.

“Adams.”

Reunited

Liam saw the door open and reached into his bag and pulled out the Addreall and moved his headphones. “That’ll be….son of a bitch…..” he said pausing, his face frozen as he saw Lydia standing in the doorway. He prayed it wasn’t her but her face was unforgettable and her scent was the same. He took a small breath. 

“Lydia…I…I…” he said pausing as he dropped the drugs back into his bad. He didn’t know what to say. He never expected to see her in New York, much less buying Addrerall. “Can we talk…?” he asked, his voice caught in his throat. He didn’t want to be screamed at or hit. Honestly he wanted to run but his feet wouldn’t move. Besides if he ran then she might call Scott and he couldn’t face him.

Everything she was going to say was caught into her throat as she just stared at him for a moment. Her eyes finally darted to the drugs he had in his hand as she made the connection. He was a drug dealer. He was suppose to be her drug dealer. “Inside now.” She said moving for him to come inside her apartment knowing they now had a lot to talk about. Why was he here? Why was he a drug dealer? How did he even get drugs? There was a million questions running through her head but, she needed to tell Scott.

He listened to all of her questions, she hated him. He wanted nothing more than to just leave but he needed her help. He let of all of her questions run; doing his best to remember all of them. Once she paused, waiting for him to say something. He replied. “You shouldn’t, honestly I’m surprised I got this far on my first attempt. I ruined everything in pursuit of my own power and honestly Lydia I swear if there had been another way. I’d have taken it.” he said taking a small breath.

“I’m sorry for what I did to you, to your friends. Hit me again if it makes you feel any better. I’m still an Alpha and I left my pack back in Beacon so they could live their lives normally. Having an actual family member was worth more to me than a few chimeras.” he said shaking his head. “I know, but I’m trying to make things right.” he said. 

One good, honorable, non bullshit reason. He paused and shook his head before looking at Lydia. “I’ve done terrible things, I’ve done them in the pursuit of two things. Family and Power. Terrible things have been done to me to make me what I am. But I never lost sight of family; and when I came to Beacon…my quest for power; it drove my quest for family and I lost sight of it. I was even going to sacrifice Liam’s trust and life. Before you get mad, I was going to bring him back instantly. I know its no excuse. But my honorable reason is that I want what’s best for Liam. I want to be apart of his life, I want us to be a family that neither of us ever had.” he said.

When he actually admitted that she should not help him she wanted to tell him to go right then and there. He should of found another way because she didn’t want to help him. After what he did to her she was ready to kick him out of her life for good. She thought she had already gotten rid of him once yet, there is was. Admitting to stalking her and following Liam. This is not what she wanted.

Everything he said said sounded like his usual blah, blah, bullshit and she was not going to let him win this time. Lydia refused to be another pawn in his master game hen had going on. This is exactly what Theo did the first time and he was not going to be let in for a second time. “No.” Lydia said sternly as she shook her head at him. “My answer is no and I’m not going to let you walk in her and forgive you just like that. I’m not going to help you.”

Theo could tell it hurt her more than she wanted to admit, a part of him wanted to bring it up and taunt her. But that part was overshadowed by just how much he needed her. “I understand your anger and if there was another way to do what I did I would have done it. Another Alpha, a different way. But There wasn’t; you know I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t desperate.” he said before nodding as he stepped into her apartment at her request. 

He took the questions into account and nodded. “I was going to revive him instantly and tell him the truth but things went of course. I’m sorry for what I did to you.” he said before getting to the betrayal. “I did, and yes I feel bad for it but it had a purpose. I would have been able to protect him, to be the brother he deserved rather than some freak chimera. An Alpha Lydia. I would have been able to protect him.” he said shaking his head. 

“I know, I fucked up with you, with everything. None of it went how I thought it would. Yes, I stalked you a little bit. But only after I got stopped by Colin; I didn’t even know you were in New York until I saw your name written on one of the books in Colin’s place. I figured Liam must have written it. Just, help me. I’ll do, whatever you want.”

Theo was the last person Lydia ever wanted to see, except maybe Peter. She didn’t want to see either of them ever again yet here was Theo just standing at her door. If it was not for the fact her neighbor was watching from his window and trying to count every person she brought home she would have left Theo outside. “Why the hell should I help you? You made my life hell. You ruined my pack. You forced yourself into my head.” She reminded as she crossed her arms at him. “You were an alpha. Where is your precious pack now? Let me guess you ditched them after bringing them back.” Lydia said getting frustrated with him again, wanting to hit him again desperately. Hearing him talk about Liam like that made her want to roll her eyes and just shut him out. “You did a terrible job of protecting him or anyone else besides yourself.” “Why is my name in Colin’s book? Who is Colin?” She asked out loud only to get frustrated even more. Liam. “I came to New York to get away from all of this. Give me one. One good honorable, non bullshit reason and I just might help you. Might.” She said waiting for him to say something.

Peter rolled his eyes as only a Hale could manage. “I assure you, Miss Martin, I did not follow you. I came here with my niece and my mate.” he answered. “I wasn’t aware you had come along, or I would have avoided building a bar where you could find me.” Laura was still weak and recovering by this point, having been successfully brought back by Theo’s little serum trick, but Peter still kept her at the apartment until she was fully capable of taking care of herself. He moved to arch a brow. “What’s your preference? Would you like some straight liquor, a beer, wine, a lace drink?”

“Well, being a bartender,” And the owner, but Lydia need not know that much. “I can say it’s pretty much in the job description to listen to people talk about issues.” he said, reaching to making her a random drink with a slight lace of wolfsbane. He shook it just a little and then poured it into two glasses. “Drink up, it’s a house favorite.” he said, grinning as he lifted one of the glasses to sip at it.

“Mate? Someone actually agreed to mate with you? I feel bad for whoever has to spend the rest of their life with you.” It was clear she currently had a buzz and no filter. Tonight had been awful up until coming here but she was not going to let Peter know his bar helped her. “Everyone seams to be here now. You, Liam, the fucking stalker ass Theo.” She said rolling her eyes just at his name. “Right now straight liquor.”

“Well too bad for you because I don’t talk about my problems. I get drunk and normally I sleep with my bar tender. Seeing that it is now you it will probably be a coworker of yours or a drunk on the dance floor.” She said with a heavy sigh as she looked around for a moment before taking the drink he made. Lydia didn’t even expect it as she took a sip of it.

Reunited

Liam headed up to the apartment of his next buyer; all he knew was the drug. Adderall. He figured it was a college kid or something trying to stay focused and awake long enough to study or cram for a test. He shrugged it off; his job wasn’t to ask questions. Just to go in, do the hand off and leave. He walked to the apartment door and knocked a few times. 

He waited for the door to open, his ipod playing music but not loud enough where his hearing wouldn’t pick up on what the customer was saying, police sirens in case it was a set up or anything else. He bobbed his head to the music; Phenomenon by Thousand Foot Krutch playing as he waited for the door to open.

The fact she was even buying drugs was something she was not proud of but, Lydia had finally found a decent challenge taking seven honors classes. It was starting to burn her out by midterms so she figured all she needed was a boost then she would be okay again.

Hearing the door finally knock made her sigh in relief knowing that her drugs were there. Lydia was still dressed into her dress from earlier with her hair pinned up. She opened the door only for the smile on her face to drop as she saw Liam.
