Laura gave a soft smile. “Yeah, I don’t think any Hale you meet is going to have a fun backstory. We’re all kind of woven into tragedy.” She watched the kid, arching a brow at his comment. “Raeken, I’m aware.” her tone was even as she spoke, but there was a hint of intrigue. She knew what Theo had done, and right now she wasn’t so sure what to make of the chimera. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, she just didn’t know Theo the way she knew her uncle. “As far as your old pack? They were crumbling the minute they started. McCall believes himself too high and noble. It’s sickening, because he’s a hypocrite. He was willing to kill my uncle if it got him that human girl. What was her name…Ally?” she asked, her eyes flashing gold. “And then he condemns his betas for self defense. Peter wanted safety, and a means to protect Beacon; what he got was an asshole full of himself and all about a girl. My uncle was shunned for being legitimately insane and causing problems for him. But Ally? She was allowed to go insane and almost commit fucking genocide of my brother’s pack and gets away with it. Why? Because she had the ‘boohoo my mommy got killed’ excuse. Scott McCall is a pathetic alpha who is only out for his own benefit and morals; consequences be damned for those around him. I’m not a fool; I saw how he constantly allowed the humans and the banshee to be put in harm’s way and expected them to take the high road of martyrdom if their lives were on the line.” Her frown was prominent as she thought about the teen. “Perhaps one day, he may have an inkling of a chance to be a good, strong alpha. Right now, he’s a child with his head so far up his own ass, he can’t tell night from day.” There was clear resentment towards the True Alpha in her words, and she clenched her hands. “Honestly, you’re better off, Liam. Don’t beat yourself up because that pack would have fallen apart with or without Theo’s help.”
“I know Peter has forgiven me; we’ve talked about it. I never blamed him for what happened to me. All he had was instinct, and I was just unlucky in visiting when I did.” she explained, her stance and tone softening considerably from her rant on Scott. “I love my uncle, and he has his mate, which helps him even more in staying calm and reasonable. If he ever lost his mate, the world be damned, he’d burn it all to the ground.” It was scary but true; Laura had been explained, in basic detail, the overall relationship Peter had with Chris. Losing a mate once was painful enough; and Peter had already proven that under certain stress and circumstance, he could kill without remorse. So losing Chris a second time would kill any real humanity her uncle had left and Laura was not sure she could handle that.
“It’s alright for a while. I’m not like most others; I stuck around somehow, I guess. Most others move on and accept death. I guess the way I went, so fast and violent, left me in shell shock and I couldn’t leave.” She shrugged. Hearing the inquiry about her job, she gave a soft smile. “I’m a detective; mainly in the homicide division. I have connections all around, though, which is helpful for a certain group of ragtag gang members.”
Liam listened to Laura rant about Scott. He agreed with some of it, part of him was a bit defensive of his old Alpha but he let it go; but not before he snapped. “Stop.” he said calmly, he had worked on controlling his anger; he wasn’t going to lose control over this. “He’s not perfect, far from it. He’s a hypocrite and not the best Alpha. He makes poor choices but he saved my life against against the Wendgo and Garret; I owe him enough to defend him even after I betrayed him. So whether I’m in his pack or not. Don’t rant about him to me. Anyone else, fine.” he said, without Scott he wouldn’t standing here and they weren’t friends or brothers anymore but he wasn’t going to let him be bashed within earshot. “And as for Allison; she was wronged, manipulated and Murdered. I know Exactly what its like to be most of that. So don’t even bring her up.” he asked, his eyes changing color.
After a moment, he calmed down and he nodded. “Understandable, from what I’ve been told...mates are important, an extension of us; even a part of us.” he said nodding. “If anything happened to my, well...future mate. I’d do anything and everything I can to avenge them...maybe bring them back. But when they die, no amount of anger training is going to help me.” he said nodding a bit.
“So, you know and help out “The Dragons” then?” he asked. “So, neutral cop them? Solve murders and help out and tip off The Dragons when they need some help.” he said trying sum it up. “Or something else?” he asked, wondering what she did in the gang, or to assist them.
