Hi! You can call me Seba (or any variation from the blog’s name). I’m a Latin American History and Communications enthusiast spending his days mostly in the wonderful pits of the Sonic fanbase. GIRL WHAT DID SP DO TO MY CHAOS ANGEL??? lmaooo I was so confused when I got to act 1 and tried the old S/A strats. Still pretty cool level design though lol

Oh lol I didn't get to this point yet! I only know that they made Chaos Angel 3 a, you know, actual level lmao

which is fine by me! I think only the speedrunners who mastered the T/A strat like that level lol. But the other levels being slightly modified but not enough to be completely original hit me in the uncanny valley 😭 give me back my crushers, they gave me comfort :<

(and ngl I feel the same with the teams. Taken as a singular, which the mod did, I understand shuffling around some moves to make certain weak combinations more OP, such as granting T/K a normal fight. But as a collective, the teams had their own delicate balance that the mod upsets to favor some combos, and indirectly making some more useless - if Knuckles can Dash Climb with every combo, I have less incentive to spread the knuxamyganda rely on K/A. The one thing I wish they did, which was to make Knuckles' Tag Action gliding more useful, and they couldn't because it wasn't coded in the game lol)

Anyway, these are nitpicks that come by me dissecting the game to the best of my abilities lol. I wholly support the project and the new levels are pretty fun and well thought out <3 even if it means we have to relearn our strategy from scratch lol

Yeah, it took me a while, but I finally gave the mod a shot live hours ago because I specifically wanted to check the improvements made to the main campaign's flow, one of my biggest gripes with the og game. And, tbh, it flows a lot better... or at least I didn't feel as many bumps on the road as I remembered.

By the time I got to Chaos Angel I concluded the mod is a lot more polished than the base game, but I ran into that same uncanny valley feeling as you. Most if not all level design changes were made as if Dimps and ST themselves gave the game another shot, which is a very nice achievement for a mod and it stays pretty consistent with the best levels of that era... but it's still not the type of 2D level design I'd personally prefer in general.

I didn't play around with combos that much, but I felt like Knuckles/Sonic is still not really my cup of tea. Got a lot of mileage out of Sonic/Knuckles instead lol and Amy/Sonic still play amazing, they're quite viable in neo Chaos Angel! though we lost those old horizontal vs vertical type pair debates

Still, I liked the mod a lot! It messed with my fuzzy memories of running Advance 3 back in the day lol I got seriously lost in Ocean Base 2 because of that, and around half of my playtime was me thinking: "was it like that in the original? no... there was a spike there, right? and they deleted that annoying enemy over there..." lol

Played a bit. I finished Route 99 then unlocked Knuckles just to try Tails/Knuckles (which is similar to the vanilla game but Tails retains his usual Propeller Flight, which I'm mixed about but sure)

anyway game's great as usual :) the small changes throw me off balance, especially the redesigned maps, but I see the intent behind them.

But since I had to download an US rom, I had to start with a fresh file. Oh no, I guess I'll have to play the game again from scratch..................... how awful................................

I got to Ocean Base 1. I'm still weirded out by the move changes lol. Sonic doing a Jump Dash when paired with Knuckles feels wrong, and I forget that now every character except Knuckles can Trick Action with any team lol. Worst part is that they didn't fix one of my biggest gripes, the fact that if you ride on Knuckles and he latches onto a wall you fall down :( I'm more curious about Amy, however.

I haven't explored the levels in full yet. However, I noticed a big change in Ocean Base 1 itself. They removed a skip at the beginning of the level, the one where you have to ride an oil fall :\ how dare they bump my time to 1:20.

It's still too early to judge the later levels, the ones that allegedly were modified the most to remove most bottomless pits, although the devs promised a completely revamped Chaos Angel 3.

But yeah, overall it's worth a shot! It messes with the muscle memory but it's a fun way to re-experience the game ❤️

Ohh, now I want to know if they modified Knuxamy's moveset, that combination was one of my favorites, hope it's better than vanilla, not worse haha

And I guess I'm glad they're redoing Chaos Angel Act 3, but I'm more curious to see the changes they've done to Act 2, our good ol' "2D Eggmanland" lol

Remember when we talked about the Egg Dragoon's secret time limit?

Well, now my friends over at Hedgehog Dubbing Team released their first and fully complete project: Sonic Unleashed Mod Latino and, yes, it includes the iconic Egg Dragoon lines, now fully dubbed in Latam Spanish!

Sonic Rumble is finally launching worldwide this week (November 5th), and I'm starting to think it might actually be the goat 🐐

Well! We might not know who's behind this game's music yet, but apparently both Tokoi and Satoshi Oike (Pinball Carnival Act Fruit) have talked about working on it to some degree...

AND there's some ongoing speculation about Tae Fujimoto (who did remix Metal Harbor for Crossworlds recently, and composed both Pumpkin Mansion and Coral Town) also being involved.

Soooo I guess it's safe to bet that any of the modern-day SEGA Sound Team (or SEGA Game Music as they like to call it now) musicians could be behind this one. Or maybe it's just Tokoi being insanely based as always.
