hiii I've got a small question about the application process!

For writer applications, are you going to be super strict about the word length of samples? I've got several shorter works, but not quite enough that fit within those small numbers. (Everything I write gets out of hand) I've got some that are 2-4k, though!

Hi! You can absolutely submit samples longer than 1500, just 500 to 1500 is a good range to see the style of your writing. You do not have to submit a whole work. For example, if you have a long fic, but really proud of a small 500 word segment from it, you can just submit this segment.

Hey there!

I recently came across this blog while scrolling through the dcc tag and I'm really hyped about the premise!

I do have one small question / concern, though... Why are there limitations on Dead Dove-esque content? It seems like there could be a lot of grey areas around what's considered that type of content or not. If there's already an age restriction for creators and a NSFW category, I don't quite get why you're making this distinction.

I want to be really clear that I'm genuinely curious here -- no shade towards the rules for the event, I'm just a little confused about why they're there

(And honestly, I feel like dcc as a series and fandom has a lot of room for more freaky stuff :P )

Hi! The zine as a whole doesn't restrict it. There's a dead dove restriction for only 2 parts of the zine out of 3. It's done this way so people who are not interested in reading it can opt out of downloading the 3rd part which will contain it. Apologies if it, perhaps, was phrased in a confusing way.

Please read these guidelines carefully as it may affect your application.

General Submission Guidelines.

Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

If you share any Google links, their viewing permissions must be set to Anyone with a link can view.

Your sample submissions don’t have to be related to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

You will need to have a Discord account, or willing to create one.

Usage of AI is prohibited, and any sample submissions containing AI generated text or imagery will be disqualified. 

NSFW samples are accepted, but if they contain any sensitive content like non-con, gore, etc., they must be properly tagged.

The zine will be separated into several sections that will be downloadable separately. You will be able to apply to any or all of them.

SFW and NSFW sections will not be accepting submissions containing anything that can be labeled as Dead Dove content. That means, no ships featuring underage characters, incest, sexual situations between Carls and Donut, or explicitly non-con content. (Some degree of dubious consent is fine, we can discuss it on a concept-to-concept basis.) 

If you wish to create a submission featuring darker themes, there will be an option to apply for a NSFW+ addon.

Please note, you will be asked to include three ships you will want to work with, starting with the one you want to create for the most and ending with the one you would want to create for the least. It is possible you will end up with your second or third option. Also, please don’t forget this is Carl-centric ship zine, so he will need to be a participant in all three of your options.

Platonic ships are welcome in the zine.

Art Submission Guidelines.

3-5 high-quality samples of your work. 

The final submission will require to have a background, so the samples with backgrounds are highly encouraged.

You can use any artistic medium, from digital painting, to watercolors, to 3D modeling.

If accepted, you will be required to complete at least one full page illustration with background. Several submissions are welcome, including 1-4 page comics.

Digital Merch Submission Guidelines.

All general guidelines apply.

3-5 high-quality samples of your work. Samples of digital merch (wallpapers, icons, prints, bookmarks etc.) are not required, but are encouraged.

If accepted, you will be required to create at least one kind of digital merch, but more than one is encouraged.

Writing Submission Guidelines.

3-5 high-quality samples of your writing between 500 to 1,500 words. If desired, you can submit links to your AO3 account.

If accepted, you will be required to complete at least one story between 1.5k-3k.

Other forms of written media, like poetry or songs are also welcome.

All applications will go live on August 1 and will run till September 1. If you will be applying for a mod, and the zine will require additional help, you may get a response by September 20th.

Hello, Crawlers!

It’s been an entire week since the interest check went live, and so far there’s been a lot of great feedback! Also, it definitely looks like we will have enough participants, so the project is a go!

Things are still not set in stone, but a few addendums and clarifications are being added to the zine guidelines based on the feedback so far. (The final version of which will be put together and posted with the schedule about a week before the interest check ends.)

First of all, it is a shipping zine, and it’s a specifically Carl centric shipping zine, which means it will contain Car x Somebody, or Somebody x Carl pairings. Apologies if this wasn’t clear enough.

Platonic ships will be allowed in the zine! So if you want to create art or fics featuring Carl & Donut, or see Carl and Mordecai more as father and son, or want to explore Carl and Bautista’s friendship, you’re more than welcome to do so!

There will be two sections of the zine, SFW and NSFW. Contributors will be able to apply to one or both of them.

That being said, after some consideration, the zine will not be accepting submissions which can be labeled as “Dead Dove.” That means, no ships featuring underage characters, incest, sexual situations between Carls and Donut, or explicitly non-con content. Interest Check is now Open!

A few points about the zine:

The zine is fully expected to be a very small project and will run with at least 10 participants. It will be free and digital, distributed in PDF form via download.

The zine will likely have at least some adult themes, so the contributors will need to be over the age of 18.

Most ships will be welcome in the zine, including your OCs. It will exclude underage ships. Any discourse, or harassment of other participants over their preferred ships or tropes or any other fictional content will not be tolerated.

The System AI from the series is welcome in the zine, but this will be the only AI allowed. Your art and fics must be created by humans, cats or other living alien beings.

The Interest check will run untill July 31

These guidelines are not final and a subject to change. More information to come if the project gathers enough participants.
