I have worked in clothing retail for 8 years and it baffles me the number of times people ask me if something will shrink. Folks. Your clothes should never shrink. They don't have to shrink. Follow the wash instructions and they won't shrink.
When in doubt: cold water, low to medium spin, hang or lay flat to dry.
The only things I've encountered that may shrink significantly following this method are pure animal fiber knits. Read your labels.
And if you for some reason WANT something to shrink...don't. Get a smaller size or pick a piece that fits you more closely. Have it altered, i don't fuckin care. When you shrink a piece of clothing, you damage the fibers. You make it less durable. It won't bounce back from wear as easily. Which contributes to waste, etc etc. Just stop it.
Also, for the love of god stop putting stretch fabrics in the dryer. This includes stretch jeans. Listen. I know they take a long time to air dry, okay? I know. Air dry them anyway. Spandex in fabric is very fragile and will wear out extremely quickly if you put heat on it. Heat causes the elastic fibers to break, resulting in sagging and making clothes prone to damage. If you MUST dry something stretchy in the dryer, put it on the lowest heat setting (or no heat) for a longer time. My go-to is 1 hour on low. Works like a charm. Still, I only really dry socks, underwear, and tee shirts.
Be kind to your clothes if you want them to retain quality. I have delicate pieces that have survived since the 70s and still look great. I have pieces that I bought over a decade ago that still look and feel brand new. Be kind to your clothes, for the love of god. I'll come haunt your closet if you don't.

the demon crowley invented laundry and no one will ever convince me otherwise. it's why he miracles his clothes on bc fuck off if he's ever going to even bother miracling his clothing clean.
WHAT Just a 5:30am public laundry coffee break after a long night. that's NORMAL. Removing ketchup stains obviously.
Okay so Hazbin continues to consume my brain and I'm not even sorry, I mean, GUYS I sat myself down and finished a painting! I'm so proud!

"Many of the newer pencil drawings and small watercolours in The Red Tree exhibition are based on sketchbook doodles from over the years, particularly revisiting early concepts from 2000 that did not necessarily fit within the structure of the original book, including some more emotionally ambiguous and positive imagery. Revisiting this universe was an interesting experience. In some ways it feels nothing has changed, while at the same time many things have changed, a slightly different approach, style and interpretation." - Shaun Tan
This artwork is available for purchase through Beinart Gallery, where it will be on display from May 2nd to May 24th in The Red Tree Exhibition.
