A Friendly Reminder
There will be no FLOW class on Thursday this week. We will meet to hear our guest speaker Friday at 3:00 p.m. Keep talking about party ideas!
Unit 6 - Party On!
This is the last unit for the semester! In this unit, you will all work together to plan a party for your classmates. However, it is still a FLOW unit, so you will be graded on how you follow instructions and also how creative you are!
Party Planning Details
For this unit, you and your classmates must plan a party for your classmates and teachers next week. You will be given $10 per student to plan the party (you must pay if you spend more than that). You must decide the following: • What theme will you have for the party? • What types of finger foods will you buy or bring from home for the party? Do you need plates, cups, or cutlery for that food? • What activities and games will you have to match the theme? • How will you decorate the room for the theme? • What music will you have to match the theme? • You must also invite all your teachers to the party. This means you need to create invitations. These can be paper invitations or evites. Be sure to state the time and place in the invitation. Be sure to check the following terms and expressions: “theme” “decorate” You will be graded as a class on the following: o How well you use the money (you MUST give your teacher receipts) o How well the room is decorated o How well the party is organized and prepared and whether the activities, music and games reflect the theme o How creative you are
YEAH! We have officially left winter behind, and have entered spring :)
Spring is known for its changing weather - one minute sunny and warm and the next minute wet and windy. I hope that you have noticed all the lovely flowers that are blooming now. Have you taken some time to enjoy the beautiful flowering trees between the Reimer Student Centre and the Douglas building? You should! Click on the pictures above and learn the names of some of the most common flowers you see in gardens now.
One of my jobs this weekend was to look through a box of old things to see what I could give away. I found a large number of old photos taken when my kids and I were in China in 2007. What wonderful memories!
What do you do with your photos? Do you keep them on your computers? Do you put them into photo albums?
Unit 4 Marks
Hi Everyone,
I have marked the Unit 4 assignments, so check your messages! If you have any questions or concerns, send me an email.
Have a good, productive and restful long weekend!
Guest Speaker Response
I hope that those students who came to this morning’s speaker presentation found it interesting. Kayla made some great points about how she manages to balance her activities.
Remember that if you were not there or arrived at the very end of her speech, you will not be able to turn in a response this time.
ALSO: If you are doing the Survey Option this unit, you will need to hand in your survey sheets to me on Tuesday. I need to see how you collected the information that you discuss in your assignment. In other words, I need to see each student’s answers written on paper.
Have a good weekend!
What surprised me the most about my pie chart is how much free time I actually have. I always feel as if I don't have the time to do things that I want to, but actually, if I organized my time better, I could do more fun things.
This chart does not include meal times and other activities that might reduce my free time a bit, but still, I think I need to be aware of the free time I have and use it better.
Unit 5: Balancing Work with Play
Please read the activity options below carefully. Choose 1 option that is a different format from the option you did for Unit 4. For example, if you did an interview, do not choose the interview option this time.
This assignment is due by midnight on March 24th.
Option #1 Survey
Create 10 survey questions related to how university students balance their schoolwork with their free time. (Format: Text)
Ask 10 TWU students these questions & record their answers.
Post the questions and results of the survey on your blog (you choose how to present the results - pie chart, graph - be as creative as you want).
Post an additional text post (1 paragraph) describing your reaction to the information you gathered.
DO NOT include the names of the students you surveyed.
Option #2 Video Interview
Create and upload a video interview with a TWU university student to find out how he/she balances work with play. (Format: Video)
Create the questions yourself. You must ask at least 6 different questions.
"What is your name?" is a good first question, but it will not count as one of the 6+ questions you have to create.
Post a complete transcript of the interview.
Post an additional text post (1 paragraph) describing your reaction to the information you found out in the interview.
Option #3 Photo Set
Photo Set of your own pictures - no internet pictures!!!!!
(Format:photo & text)
Find out what TWU students do for fun or for study breaks on campus - places they go, activities they participate in etc.
Create a photo set of at least 6 different photos. Each photo should represent one of these things.
YOU MUST TAKE THE PHOTOS YOURSELF! This means you may have to take part in the activities. Have fun!
Include a 100 character caption briefly describing each photo.
Post an additional text post (1 paragraph) describing your reaction to the information you gathered.
Unit 5 - Tuesday, March 10
Do you sometimes feel you spend too much time doing homework and not enough time enjoying yourself? This unit is about balancing work and play. See you Tuesday as we discuss something that affects people all their lives - finding balance!
A fascinating video about air pollution in China. Please watch this and be informed. You are the future, and you can do something about this for your children and grandchildren. ENGLISH SUBTITLES ARE FULLY TRANSLATED For more information: http://www.linghein.me/tr_u/ English Subtitles:
Did you remember to move your clocks forward one hour? This is called Daylight Savings Time and gives us light later in the evening. I will enjoy having more daylight at the end of the day, but I sure don't like having to get up earlier!
