laurel week - day 4 ► favorite laurel feature - her ability to love. you would expect someone who got hurt by the people she loved so frequently (ollie cheated on her, sarah betrayed her, her mother left her), to have less love to give away, but that does not apply to laurel, cause she loves and cares for everyone who at least half deserves it.
Laurel Lance Week ♦ Day Two: Moment of Tears
Episode two of the first season was definitely the first time I looked at Katie’s character and just knew that she was going to be a life changer for me. She brought tears to my eyes instantly when she and her father go into it about the whole being attacked and Oliver being in her apartment. It was the firs time I could truly feel Laurel’s pain because it cut deep, so deep that not even in 5 years had it healed enough to look at her father and feel that family bond you know they used to have.
It just breaks my heart to see Laurel in so much pain and not being able to do anything about it which is why I truly loved this scene. It’s so powerful and dynamic that is shows the true colors of what Laurel is actually feeling inside. Nothing is stronger than burying your feelings and when you see them finally come into play it literally gives you a mental breakdown.

Day Two ; moment of tears
UGH. THIS SCENE IN BETRAYAL KILLS ME EVERY TIME. I feel like this is one of my all time favorite Laurel scenes ever. It’s just so incredible to me that after she’s attacked, tased, kidnapped, bound to a chair, has a knife forced at her throat she manages to LIST OUT THE CHARGES THE DUDE THAT KIDNAPPED HER IS GOING TO FACE. She’s crying, scared out of her damn mind, but she doesn’t hesitate in telling this scumbag what’s coming for him. God bless this entire scene okay.

Laurel Lance week: Day two - Laurel moment of tears
This broke my heard because not was she betrayed by the man she loved and her own sister, she now finds out that her own mother betrayed her by allowing her sister to go with Oliver even though Laurel herself was very much in love with Oliver. This moment, finding out that her own mother let Sarah go with Oliver just unearthed everything she had been trying to bury and it’s obvious that she still isn’t over what Oliver and Sarah did and Sarah’s death. Another thing I liked about this scene was the fact that despite all of that, she never spoke ill of her sister, Oliver and her mother for what they did to her. She was still respectful of them, even offering to help Oliver later in the episode and being his friend. Plus, Katie’s acting was amazing here.

Day 1 - What I love about Laurel.
I am sorry I am bit late with this post, but hey things happen. So here are some musings from me about why I love the character of (Dinah) Laurel Lance.
Okay, I’ve read many other fine posts about why others in Tumblr love this character of Laurel so much. So this got me to start reflecting on why I respect and love Laurel too, and it led me to recall why I loved another character similarly some 20 years earlier, this being the one and only Dana Scully. And I have come to a conclusion that it is for similar reasons, if not the same reasons.
For me, both Laurel and Dana are on a search for the truth. It is not about revenge, but more about a need for justice to be served that leads them both on their path in life. Both heroes in their own right. I am strong believer in the doing right thing, and of justice being served. Maybe it is because I am a Libran with the star sign symbol of the scales, who knows.
There are other similarities between these two TV women characters that I find appealing. Both are beautiful, strong, smart, independent and determined women, who are working within the law to bring about justice for those they work with. They are also fiercely loyal, and will take on the fight, no matter how difficult it may be or how rough it might get. They will use their trades to seek out the truth; with Dana it was science, and with Laurel it is the knowledge of the law and the leg work needed to discover the truth. When faced with death, she still stands resolute and defiant, she doesn’t back down or give up.
However, there are other things they have in common that I find appealing. Both women have a nurturing, caring side to them as well. We have seen Laurel with everyone she interacted with so far, including Oliver, Tommy, Joanna, Thea and even the small boy who lost his parents, this loving and caring side to her. When Katie Cassidy says that Laurel has a huge heart, I believe her. She always tries to find the best in everyone, even when that task is difficult.
Of course, I love it when they get to kick some ass, and become the badass women we know they are. I for one was cheering on when Laurel stood there with shotgun in hand and sent a blast after the hit man; she was fighting back as good as she should give.
Interestingly, both characters lose a sister and that becomes their crucible for providing them with more focused energy to continue their journey.
I believe that there is no coincide that I can make the comparisons between Dana Scully and Laurel Lance, especially when you consider that Andrew Kreisberg worked for many years on that other hit TV show – The X-Files.
With this love of both characters, it naturally leads me to a healthy respect and admiration for the actresses who play Dana and Laurel. IMHO both are spot on in their delivery of their respective characters that they deliver their story in such a huge and emotive way, you can see what they are feeling just through with their eyes. For me, they do this in is such an understated and perfect performance. Bravo!
So for me Laurel Lance, is a new kind of Dana Scully. And I am looking forward to what has in store for this new hero, with hopefully some great new story arcs in season 2 of Arrow. And I am so excited about Laurel Lance transforming into the Black Canary, it’s going to be amazing to see.
laurel week - day 2 ► laurel moment of tears - This scene was the most emotional thing about the season finale for me. Like most people, I did feel terrible about tommy, but this scene was just so amazingly acted and the father/daughter arc was so beautifully built up throughout the season, that this was just too much for me to handle and I cried like a baby. You can clearly see that at this moment the only thing that matters for Quentin is her daughter, and he wanted her to know that, and wanted to clear the air, before the worst. A++ acting from both Katie and Paul.
Laurel Lance Week ♦ Day One: Why You Love Laurel
The question of why I love Laurel has to be one of the most powerful things you could possibly ask me. I love Laurel for all the reasons you would have never thought of, and yes the main reason I started arrow was for Katie Cassidy (which plays a big part in why I love her character), but because of the amount of time given to the show- falling in love with Ms. Lance wasn’t very difficult.
I love Laurel for her determination to be a good person in all that she does. Whether it comes to being a good lawyer or being a good friend. I love Laurel for trying to keep her head on straight even though her heart was broken by the man she was devoted to and the sister she once knew. Laurel lost so much and she still managed to go about her day like nothing had ever happened. To so many of you, you forget just how much she suffered through and courage like that makes me love her even more.
I love Laurel for how brave she is. She’s not the kind of woman to sit back on a corner and wait to be rescued. She does what she can for herself to survive and even after being kidnapped, her home being broken into one too many times, and the amount of danger Oliver has put her in she still makes it out on top. She doesn’t stop and say I can’t go outside my house anymore. Instead she stands up and walks out the door with a smile. A smile I also happen to love. If I was in her shoes I wouldn’t be able to handle my life and I sure as hell wouldn’t smile about it. Her smile makes me want to cry because it connects us to the gateway of the eyes. Her eyes are so beautifully spoken for. She just has away of telling you what she’s thinking without actually using words and as an actress that does a lot for a character.
Loving Laurel is the most easiest in terms of just being there, however, loving her when she’s “managing” her way in life isn’t something that is very easy at all. It’s quite difficult because when she is in pain than I am in pain. I feel her emotions so strong that it’s unbearable some days. All I want is for her to be happy and with plot lines that are going to tear her down I can’t help loving her ten times as much as I did before. Laurel Lance is so special the lack of attention her character gets leaves me wounded on the inside and out.
I love Laurel for so many reasons and I could explain it to you in many different ways but the main reason I love Laurel is because of her heart. It is so pure and bright that it opens a window to her soul. Once you’ve seen this and experienced the power of Laurel Lance you are literally trapped. I connect with Laurel on a personal level and with a heart, soul, and mind like hers I can feel proud about this. There is so much I want to say but the question needs a simple answer As simple as I can get- I love Laurel because she is everything and I just do. I just love her because she is the one and only Dinah Laurel Lance.

Fights off Cyrus Vanch’s goons and only went down because he had a taser (and you can’t fight a taser).
She pulls a shotgun on Mr. Blank.
Is fearless when going after the bad guys, no matter how terrible.
She doesn’t take shit from anyone – not her father, not Oliver, not the bad guys.

laurel lance week - day 1 why you love laurel ► laurel lance is probably the most underrated and under appreciated character on the series Arrow which is really surprising considering what she represents and symbolizes in the Arrow world. She is a very strong and independent female that we all can aspire and look up to. She possesses many qualities that are both amazing and flawed which only shows how human she is, making her such a fantastic character to both love and hate.
Laurel Lance Appreciation Week
There have been quite a few fine posts already about Laurel Lance that have more or less covered what I want to say, so I’ll try to give a somewhat different spin on why I find her to be a character worthy of our support. English is not my native language, but I hope you understand what I want to say.
1. One reason I want to give my appreciation is that I tend to become attached to “the underdog”, whether it’s a Real Life one or a fictional one, and Laurel is truly the underdog of the “Arrow” fandom. I think that she is both misunderstood and maltreated and that’s why I often feel compelled to defend her on various forums, if only to present a different point of view on her personality and actions. So, if she’s a crusading lawyer going up against the villains of Starling city, I guess I’m a crusading fan fighting a somewhat more trivial battle online! It might even be that I would have been less attached to her if she had been a “fan favourite”, because then she wouldn’t have needed any defending…
2. The other reason is that I regard her as the most well-developed female character in “Arrow” besides Moira. There have been many complaints that Laurel is poorly written and I do agree with some of them. On the other hand, I would say that Laurel has many things going for her: she has a well-defined personality, a fascinating (albeit somewhat melodramatic) back story and some very interesting relationships, both romantic and familial. She is headstrong and determined and sometimes rash in her judgments. She is also warm and caring and she doesn’t bear a grudge, a trait I find especially endearing.
All of these aspects of her personality come out in her relationship with the main men in her life, Oliver and Quentin.
Take the first meeting with Oliver in the Pilot. When he comes to her to ask for forgiveness she lashes out at him, giving vent to five years of anger, grief and hurt. However, a few days later she asks HIM for forgiveness and offers her friendship, something which cannot have been a very easy thing to do. At that stage Oliver is convinced that the best way to protect her is to push her away, so he rejects her and pretends that he doesn’t care for her friendship. This is the beginning of a “push and pull” dance which would have driven any woman crazy. I personally think that Laurel has showed an amazing patience with Oliver’s erratic behaviour throughout season one, especially since she had no clue why he kept doing this “dance” with her. This is something that she seldom gets any credit for, probably because male characters have a lot more leeway than female characters, and therefore have to behave REALLY badly before anyone takes notice!
For me the Quentin/Laurel relationship is one of the most interesting aspects of “Arrow”, and I think the mutual respect and affection between Katie and Paul is evident in their scenes together. The Quentin/Laurel relationship is full of conflict and tension, but there is also a strong undercurrent of love and affection which becomes apparent in their on screen interaction. Quentin drinks too much, he is overbearing and grumpy towards her boyfriends and he even uses her as a bait…and yet Laurel always eventually forgives him, maybe because she wants to believe that “people can change”. So again, I think we should give Laurel props for putting up with her old man, to the point of picking him up from sleazy bars and dragging him home whenever he’s been drinking too much! Over the course of the season Quentin and Laurel have been able to deal with some of the issues that plagued the Lance family, and I hope that their relationship will continue to evolve in season two.
In conclusion….I don’t find Laurel boring, I find her human. She has her flaws just like most of us real world people, but she also has a willingness to see the good in people and admit when she’s been in the wrong. if there is anything that I would wish to see more of in season two it’s happy carefreel Laurel.. in fact, it would be great if we could hear her laugh every once in a while the way Katie did in the blooper reel!

Day One ; why I love Laurel Lance
I could crank out a ten page essay easy, but I have to actually crank out a ten page essay for a class so I’m going to make this short and sweet.
I love Laurel Lance because she’s:
"Always trying to save the world." A badass. Intelligent, and uses that intelligence to benefit others. Is compassionate and capable of great forgiveness. Is adorable. And loves freely and openly.
Laurel Lance week: Day one - Why I love Laurel Lance
I could write an essay on how much I love Laurel. Unlike most leading ladies on the CW that love to put their ladies in a love triangle and can’t figure out who they want, Laurel knows who she wants. Sure Laurel had feelings for Oliver, but it never once got in the way of her feelings for Tommy. When she was with him, she was always just with him. There was no second guessing who she wanted to be with or who she had more feelings for. Even when Tommy broke up with her, Laurel still tried her hardest to mend things with Tommy. You could tell that her feelings for Tommy was genuine and she never once thought about Oliver that way while she was with Tommy. It wasn’t until she was completely broken up with Tommy and Oliver came to her that she admitted her feelings to not only Oliver but to herself. It was never “I love Tommy but I also love Oliver, I don’t know who to pick”.
Another reason I love Laurel so much is the fact that she was so incredibly driven. Whenever there was some sort of injustice, she never cared if it put her life in danger, so long as she was able to get justice. She did everything within the law to get justice to those who deserved it. Not only that though, but Laurel isn’t exactly naive to it. When Oliver came to her as the Hood about a case in An Innocent man, she didn’t jump the gun, expecting the man to be freed right away. She took it with a grain of salt. She made sure that the man was actually innocent before going on a crusade demanding that he be released from custody. I also loved the fact that even when she was kidnapped and threatened, she was still strong. She held her own, even though every part of her wanted to break down and cry. She didn’t show any fear or gave her captor the satisfaction of knowing he scared her. Laurel is also able to hold her own. Although she constantly needs saving by Oliver, she still proved numerous times that she could hold her own.
There’s also Laurel and Oliver’s relationship that made me love Laurel even more. At first, yes she was angry at him (which she had every right to be angry), giving him the cold shoulder, but even when she was pissed off at him when he came to her int he second episode with his problems, she still helped him and gave him the best advice she could. Even with everything that he had done to Laurel, when his mother came to her for help, she still helped him. She still represented him as his attorney and when Oliver came to her for help with Thea, she did everything she could to help. She even went to her father, even though Laurel was well aware that her father hated the Queen’s. Even though she had every right ti hate Oliver, Laurel never once hesitated to let him know that she was there for him whenever he needed her. Laurel is compassionate. It isn’t the fact that she can hold her own that made me fall in love with her. It was her emotional strength and kindness that made me fall in love with her character.
October 1st - Why you Love Laurel
I love Laurel’s character because she is more intense, meaningful and complex series. She and Oliver are the two characters that have the greatest potential to be exploited for all future seasons.
