It’s now just before hand in and I found my lost analogue images, I really like the outcome of these and would like to possibly try more in the future but more fashion like. I liked trying the splatter technique Hesse by a past student but wasn’t as good.the last images are the final images that will be shown in the exhibition. I wanted to have one dark one light just to see if it would improve from dodging and burning but it looked worse.

Independent practice.
For this module my head was a bit all over the place.
I started off with the idea of doing natural studio portraits possibly of workers, friends and family and stranger, as a few different series’
But as I got into the module more I soon realised that I wanted to pursue my love for fashion and develop from the B24/7 that we had with Chris, and work with more independent designers, so I did.
My first shoot was with Hannah who I did the Bristol shoot with for Martin Booth.
As soon as we finished the location shoot she wanted to do a studio shoot and I was really up for it, she came prepared with everything, even glitter and we got some nice shots. However the shot because more of a production line to get as much done as possibly so we didn’t focus as much as they were for her website too. Therefore if I got the chance I’d like to spend more time on single shots rather than clicking away.
After shooting with Hannah she recommended a girl called Alice to me who would then be my second shoot. She owns her own headband business making flower crowns, head dress etc and her stuff is really pretty and unique. For this shoot she even managed to get her MUA friend to collaborate on the shoot as well but I wasn’t happy at the fact she was hung over on the day of shoot and delaying things. 3 of these images I have decided on for the exhibition and after a while of editing I finally managed to smooth out her skin thanks to the help of our lecturer Emilie and YouTube tutorials.
Overall this shoot was a success and I loved the images, although it was hard to edit the acne out like she wanted.
Shoot number 3 ended up being a collaboration between Alice’s Polly Wonder business and her friend that works with her at Rex that used to be at Cabot, called Emshandmade.
They worked for a fee weeks making headbands and clothes to match one another and Em brought her model friend Hannah along who does most of her photos for her social media.
I must say out of all of the collaborations with designers coming in, this had to be my favourite, it was very relaxed and we had a laugh as well as having a model with experience was great! It made things easier and quicker and the shoot was a success. I have chosen 3 of the images for the exhibition as well.
Final shoot I had was with Daniella. She received some clothes for her project on Ale Ravalli clothing and I couldn’t help but see her suiting those clothes, I asked her if she would like to shoot and she was up for it, it was a rather short shoot but the images I managed to get, didn’t need to make the shoot any longer as I was happy with them.
After taking he images I asked Ale Ravalli (Alessandra) herself if I could use the images as well as sending her over the unedited images. I explained how Dani had that look about her and had to shoot the images. Her response was positive and she liked the images
Overall this had to be another favourite of mine and I chose 3 of the images to exhibit later on.
For our brief we also had to photograph for KWMC (knowledge west media centre) for this shoot we had to go out and ask people questions about Knowle West/Fillwood and photograph them and photograph something to represent them or about the community.
I honestly wasn’t a big fan of this shoot but I did manage to get a few nice shots. I didn’t like this so much as I’m not great at approaching people therefore wasn’t enjoyable.
We also had to do a shoot for BBC Bristol on Pioneering Women and to start with I didn’t know who to shoot but after working with up and coming independent designers I thought it would be a great idea to photograph Alice (Polly Wonder) at Rex. It inspired me due to the fact that she has come from where I am and has gone on to do her own thing which is what I’d like to do in the future.
I wasn’t so happy with the outcome for this due to lighting issues however it was a good experience.
Lastly for the exhibition we started looking at framing options and Emilie helped me measure everything up so that everything should fit p refectory and now mistakes, I’m glad I got this help as I wasn’t sure how to hang my work, whether it be with or without frames but I have finally got my 6 x a2 and 3 x a3 ready to print for the exhibition.
Overall this was a great outcome for this module, I’m glad I changed my mind and done what I enjoyed more than what I’d end up in and it was a fun experience. I got to meet some lovely people along the way and hope to keep contact for the future.

Mediation and promotion
For this project we as a team has to come together and have roles for what each of us will do to help bring our final exhibition together.
I was a bit worried about this module as there was quite a lot to do and possibly not enough meeting time.
For this we got allocated roles and my role was to do print. This would then be designing the poster as well as some sort of logo to represent us.
After a few tries of different logos I showed the others and they really liked the 2 circles that cross over and if you look closely it kind of looks like a camera lens but discretely.
Next we would bring in images that would possibly go on the poster and after a few weeks of deciding, everyone agreed Dani’s looked the best, therefore I started editing the poster but still needed a name.
Eventually we had a list of names and since it was Daniella’s image we let her choose and the name then became Slide. After adding the title and text I showed it to the group and they were happy with it after a couple of tweaks and even later on got flipped and changed but it looks a lot better.
As we did this we had to think about ourselves and how we would promote ourselves for the show as well as the group. We set up our social media with our logo and off we went posting an image a day per person and it went really well and still is.
We them had to look at producing our own websites etc, I already had a website but wanted to redo it because the colours were too harsh and I’m glad I did because the website I have now is so so much more classy and professional.
After this we also had to come up with a business card design and logo. I had a logo already but wanted to change it so I messaged a girl called ‘lilaslogos’ on Instagram and gave her what I wanted and some sort of moodboard and after a couple of tried we got the logo I have now.
I really like the logo and feel it would look best on a square business card and that what I did, I bought a bunch of square business cards and everything fits together nicely.
As we get to the end we have started inviting people the the exhibition by setting up an event page on Facebook as well as sending off press release and invites via email. This I feel has been left a bit late however Daniella is putting up posters this week so I should start coming together soon.
Overall I enjoyed this experience of working as a team and producing the work I have for it. I can’t wait to finally start off the exhibition and begin my business journey.

For this module we aimed to head towards making a portfolio as well as printing for our final exhibition!
I was looking forward to printing for my exhibition but was quite worried about my portfolio for the fact being I had no idea where to start and had a lot of photos that I liked there were of the same people.
To start things off we were given the task of photographing independent designers or outlets for B24/7. To which they had to be Bristol based because of it being a local free magazine. The idea was to shoot on location to capture what Bristol is about without being cliche.
Even though I love my fashion work, I was quite concerned about this project because of it being in location. I’m more confident in the studio because it’s easier to control lighting, but we had to follow the brief.
To start with I couldn’t find anyone that would want to collaborate and I emailed and visited a few people such as Coshti and 71 queens. I was starting to worry but then Daniella told me about Rex and told me to contact Hannah, who owns her festival clothing business Kiss My Disco.
Straight away I contacted her through Instagram as I thought it would be the quickest way and within the next day or two, I got a reply saying she would be up for it.
Leading up to it was easy. I found a model (Tasch Hoskings) that was up for it and I knew she would suit it as that’s her style. We sorted where we would meet, what sort of things we would use etc.
The only problem we had was the weather getting colder, and snow was coming.
We finally did the shoot, the day before the snow, possibly the coldest day of the year, but we still did it! Even though we were all freezing we worked our socks off and got some great shots.
Due to weather we did have to keep holding the tent we bought for Tascha to change in, down because it was windy but that just added to the experience.
The locations were chosen by me with some help from the girls, Hannah styled all of the clothes and Tascha done her own make up and we did well as a team.
After the shoot when Martin came in I was a bit worried if he would like the images or not and honestly it seemed like he didn’t like them at all, but after ages of waiting, finding out my image made the front cover , was just an amazing feeling.
I really did enjoy the shoot, and it has inspired my new final major project idea and can’t wait to get shooting.
The next part of the task was selecting a bunch of images that we would possibly like in a portfolio. I wasn’t sure what to add due to having a few different styles such as conceptual, fashion, family etc. But as it was just a start I decided to just add a bit of everything. Not knowing how to do a portfolio was worrying me a little as know you have to have photos for certain clients, maybe more than one portfolio would benefit in the future but for now we need one that pretty much sums us up.
After having a review session with Joe Coleman, where he had a quick look at our work, made me think I have strong idea for a portfolio but I needed to decide on what route I’d like to go, therefore selecting portraits would be the better option.
Later I then started adding and photographing more that would go into that portfolio ready for a review session with Kirsty MacKay.
This review session helped me so much on deciding what to do for my portfolio, she gave me ideas as well as saying what she thinks shouldn’t be there such as 1 black and white image amongst all coloured as it wouldn’t sit right and I’m glad I had that opportunity.
For the final portfolio I decided to present my work at size a3 with a thin white border and it will be shown inside a black portfolio box which will then be shown in the exhibition.
Now I have printed that work I’m really happy with the outcome and can’t wait for others to see it.
These images were printed on semi gloss paper.
Gradually as we started producing our portfolios we started looking at exhibition space and who gets what space, I liked the look of G and H however for the style Katherine wanted to print her work, it was better for her.
To begin with, Chris didn’t think I’d get enough work done so he only gave me one wall. It felt unfair and everyone agreed then it was agreed I’d get to, providing I get the work done, to which I did and more.
I ended up with walls L and M, one being 2.5 meters and the other 1.5. I was happy with this as I can now show 2 lots of work.
It took a while to decide on final prints however I stuck with semi gloss paper.
On the smaller wall I shall be printing at size a3 as that’s the biggest I can do with a small black frame around it as well, and for the larger wall, 2 series of 3 at size a2 with a black frame as well.
I’m really happy with the images I have chosen and printing them I enjoyed although editing became difficult at times because sizes kept changing etc.
Overall I enjoyed the experience of being able to create a portfolio and printing for the exhitbition and can’t wait to exhibit.
Im definitely proud of myself for gaining the confidence as well to approach Hannah for b24/7 and can’t wait to collaborate with her and others in the future.

After a long time of waiting we finally got featured in the B24/7 magazine! However to my shock, I found out one of my images actually made the front cover! This is a proud moment for myself and can now at that to my cv that I have been published! The B24/7 shoot, I must say, has been one of the best experiences so far! Doing this shoot encouraged me to do what I like best which is fashion/portrait photography and gave me the confidence to work with independent designers in Bristol for my final major project! In the future I would like to work with more designs and slowly work my way up to be the best that I can.
Sending our press release to people/magazines for the exhibition! To promote and advertise our work! This would include our selected image as well as artist statement
Thoughts on mentoring scheme
Now I have come to the end of the mentor scheme I feel it has done some good on behalf of my work.
Even thought it was really hard to find a mentor either locally or with the same sort of area I want to photograph in, I’m glad I had the opportunity to do so.
Having a mentor I feel has given me a bit more confidence in my work and helped me grow as a photographer. I’ve learnt about new editing programs, gained knowledge on others works and had the chance to get opinions that would really help me professionally!
My mentor Neil Tinson, was a great mentor and he definitely helped with ideas and my exhibition set up as well as giving me thoughts and opinions son my portfolio.
Overall I’m happy to say my mentor sessions were a success and believe it is a great benefit to all young learners wanting a career in this area of work
