i start school tomorrow (it may seem early, but i got out in mid-may), so i thought it was appropriate that i post a back to school guide to help me as well as others that will be starting school this week or in the following weeks/months.
search online for your supply list (if your school provides them). youâll want to be sure to purchase all necessary supplies for school weeks before school starts.
if your school doesnât provide a supply list, purchase a notebook (or loose-leaf paper) and pencils. on the first day, your teachers will most likely tell you what supplies will be needed for their class.
take a photo of your schedule and make it your lockscreen until youâve familiarized yourself with it. this is an easy way to memorize all your classes (or if you get your schedules on the first day like me, then youâll just have to memorize it then).
try to do back to school shopping a couple weeks before school starts. you want to be sure that youâre prepared, and that you have everything youâll need.
have all of your vacation homework completed a couple weeks before school starts. i donât think anyone wants to stay up until 3 A.M. the night before school finishing homework that should of been finished weeks ago.
relieve your nervousness by stretching or doing yoga the night before.
use the website sleepyti.me to determine when you should go to sleep. itâs a bedtime calculator that works by counting backwards in sleep cycles to make sure you wake up feeling refreshed and alert. all you have to do is log in the time you have to wake up, and itâll tell you the times you should fall asleep.
have your outfit planned and placed out the night before, so youâll have more time to get ready in the morning.
make sure your backpack is packed, and pack all the necessities youâll need.
if you pack your own lunch, pack it the night before, so that you wonât rush to get your food made the morning of school. if you buy lunch at school, make sure you have your money in your bag.
wake up 20 minutes earlier on the first day just in case something happens to go wrong that morning.
eat breakfast in the morning, but nothing thatâs unfamiliar. if you usually eat a light breakfast, donât try to eat 3 pancakes, 4 sausages, and half a plate of scrambled eggs.
pump yourself up by playing an upbeat playlist! it can be anything from alternative to metal to trap. i have one (alternative) that you guys can listen to on my spotify.
always pack your bag before you go to sleep, and make sure all of your assignments are in there. you donât want to walk into school then find out you forgot your homework at home.
ALWAYS write the date on your assignments. you never know when you might have to dig back and find an assignment youâll need.
have an agenda/planner (this is probably a necessity). write assignments, quiz and test dates, deadlines, etc. in it.
have a study space. keep a calendar or whiteboard by your desk as well as some office supplies. make sure to keep your space tidy and to always leave something called a âwhite space.â this space is a blank space on your desk where youâll do paperwork or other various types of work at.

- here are a couple of my own tips:
place your phone, laptop, and other distractions away while studying unless you need theyâre your resources. if you do have to use your laptop for studying, use temporary web blockers.
while studying for an exam/final, review mistakes youâve made on previous test and quizzes to assure that you wonât make the same ones again.
make sure to eat breakfast every morning. it truly is the most important meal of the day.
run or bike for at least 10 minutes daily, just to get a little workout in everyday after school. this is also a good way to blow off some steam.
do yoga or meditation every once in a while to release stress (thatâs probably caused by classmates).
remember, donât push yourself too hard during the school year. youâre allowed to take breaks every once in a while. donât work yourself to the point where you canât function.
