Buddha Teachings on Self-Discipline
No matter whether you want to achieve big or small things in your life but the main factor responsible through which you can attain great things in your life is through self-discipline. Self-discipline is the main factor that has been taught by Buddha to have a successful life. There are various factors which motivate people to achieve success in their life.
One can motivate themselves by various means, but all the tactics will fail if you donât have discipline in your life. Because in the end what matters to lead a successful and motivated life is a discipline that is hard to find in people nowadays.
There are various bits of advice Buddha has given on self-discipline and some of them are: -
It is mandatory to be conscious about the work that you are doing because only then you can correctly divert your focus. Mostly, the time invested in a work is not done consciously therefore there will be less mindfulness in the work that is been done. Most of the time when someone is indulged in studies or their office work, in between they start using their phone and waste their time, and after a couple of minutes they have this realization that they have wasted the maximum of the time which might have utilized fruitfully. Therefore, to avoid such situations it is mandatory to keep reminding ourselves that every minute is precious and you have to prioritize the work that you are willing to do. This cannot happen in one single day and it needs constant practice to make it a routine in your life without any failure.
There are many times in life where one prioritize the work in a wrong manner and more importance is given to the work which has not to be completed on time and the important work remains unfinished for a longer time and eventually, it will turn your success to failure within a short span of time. Buddha has clearly stated to control the emotion and the urges for the wrong things so that the self-discipline would be increased, and you can achieve anything in your life in a hassle-free manner.
There is nothing that canât be conquered, the only difference is some things might take a long time and the others might take a shorter time for that. In the Buddhist teachings, it has been clearly stated that self-discipline can be attained by constant practice. It is important to remember that you have to be disciplined in every aspect of life.
You can prepare yourself by being disciplined in the small work that you do in your life so that when difficult circumstances come into your life it will be easy for you to control yourself and be more focused and disciplined in your work.
In the Buddha teachings, it has been clearly mentioned to have a proper goal in your life because only then you can set certain targets and work for it. No matter how hard the situation is if you have a clear vision for it then you can achieve the difficult things peacefully and easily. You can set a certain time limit for the goal to achieve and make strategies according to it in life to lead a successful life
Having a goal in life will always motivate you to achieve something greater in life because at that time you will not focus on the shortcomings of life rather than you will focus on the happiness that you will get after achieving that goal in your life.
By following the above norms one can lead a well-disciplined life even in the hectic schedule.
