“We aspire to be a brand that can promote and help raise the value of handmade items and small businesses. We also want to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through our pet-related items.”

For mom and daughter owners Minnie and Mo, Eenieminniemo is an avenue where passion for art and animals come together. Their products extend beyond selling, as every sale gets to feed their animal rescues.

“We’ve always wanted to set up a shop that would let us meet people who share the same wavelength. Our items are all handmade, which range from stickers, accessories, stationery, to pet toys. Our products are mainly inspired by animals but sometimes move to weird and twisted directions. With that being said, a brand extension was created called “The Rabid Hole” to showcase original artworks which are a little bit darker than the crafted items Eenieminniemo has to offer. This extension contains a range of products from original paintings, art prints, postcards, stickers, and dolls (inspired by the characters from the paintings). The proceeds of our store’s products go to the food fund of nine rescued cats and three dogs and possibly help other rescues.”

While they cater to most Filipinos, Eenieminniemo has also already found their place in the foreign community. They have an Etsy account set up and have been contributing to the successes of getting foreigners to support Filipino-made products.

“We believe that being free means being able to share your creations or skills with those around you. With the wide reach that social media provides, we also cherish the opportunity to show our items and interact with others who also like arts and crafts or just enjoy seeing/having them.”

The love for traveling, arts, and bags inspired Just GO Bags owner, Normarei Villamater, to roll everything into one and create something that she can share to anyone with a wanderlust. The brand wishes to influence the urge to move, which sums up Normarei's life of travel.

Inspiring travel quotes grace the wholly local-made components of the Just GO bags.

“We try to solve every need of a traveler when it comes to their bags/luggage, we are trying to figure out what's the best travel bag every traveler should have. Our bags come in different kinds (Backpack, Tote bag, Drawstring bag, Sling bag - small and medium size, pouch, coin purse) and the prices range from P50- P550 as of now.”

The 24-year-old Normarei wants to cater to the growing passion of her generation to travel with the bags fit for this endeavor. She aspires that her brand continues to inspire movement and encourages more people to support local.

“I think traveling and art are the best ways to express freedom, and through our products, we were able to bring these two things together very well. I really want my generation and the next to get inspired through my brand and realize as early as now that seeing new places, spending money on buying that plane ticket to your dream destination is never a waste - it is INVESTING. Investing on your own value. I'm also hoping for those who are older than us to enjoy their lives and give themselves a break through traveling. The whole purpose of creating these products is to share my passion - traveling + arts + love for bags. That way, we all feel free because doing what you love is freedom.”

“I think most of the things that limit us from living in freedom stems from how we think and see things so being able to get over these thoughts makes me free.”

Most artists ruminate on how they got into art with the typical story of starting young. The emerging, self-taught Ayeza Mallari tells us otherwise.

With the way her skills translate into art, one would think that she's been doing this for a quite a long time already.

“I'm a self- taught independent artist and I mostly sell art prints and do private commissioned works. I started taking art seriously around 3 years ago. I was well into my college years so shifting to a course more closely related to art was out of the question. What I know now I learned from tutorial videos, tutorial posts, and hundreds of trials and errors.

I like to tell people this so that they would realize that with motivation and the passion to become better at something, anyone can achieve anything they set their heart into. I didn't start drawing at a young age like most artists that I know but I was still able to achieve the skills that I have now. So my aspirations would be for my art and story to serve as reminders that it is never too late to start doing something  and for others to realize that if I can do it, they can do it too.”

Details, colors, and femininity are what sums up her alluring pieces, and what gets her connected to her viewers. Last month, she was part of 98B's Saturday x Future Market in Escolta, Manila. 

“I'm very thankful because I met so many amazing people! That was the first time that I 'outed' myself as an artist. I had low expectations but the support and feedback was incredible. Hopefully more people would be able to connect with and recognize my work and feel inspired.”

When asked what makes her free, she says it is her way of thinking.

“I have a liberated mindset and my thoughts are quite progressive. I think most of the things that limit us from living in freedom stems from how we think and see things so being able to get over these thoughts makes me free.”

Positivity is what defines Artshop Unlimited. This “artsy-crafty handmade online gift haven” started in 2012, and is currently a go-to for arts and crafts and party needs on the side. The owner, Kristina “Ket” Carbonilla-Arcones is a creative preschool teacher. She keeps herself prolific on the artistic side with this venture.

She recently launched her Crafty Mug Collection and Crafty Cozy, whose 10% of the proceeds go to Bread and Gospel, an evangelism ministry of her friend. This year, she started participating in exhibits and bazaars, selling her prints.

“Why name it Artshop Unlimited? Artshop is inspired by the presence of art everywhere, and Unlimited is driven by my personal faith that in arts, ideas are limitless, creativity never stops, and it just goes on and on and on.”

“Artshop Unlimited likes to keep things positive! Its desire is to share God’s promises, to encourage, to inspire, and to touch people with its simple yet heartfully made arts and crafts.”

“I’m doing this because it makes me free—free from my own devils and mazes and patterns I cannot fully understand.”

FLORAFAUNA came about in 2013, when Lex Remalante was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. With all the stigma associated to the condition, most sufferers prefer to keep the illness to themselves. Lex rises above it with her intricate fairy tale yet “un-Disney-fied” natural illustrations.

It’s quite easy to get drawn—and get lost—to her pieces, as she’s giving each of her stories an image. The complexities reel us into a world that stirs up a myriad of emotions. For her, creating these is a way to understand what she’s going through.

“Due to my condition, each stroke is different—patterns depend on my current state. That makes the pieces never the same. When people ask to just replicate a piece, it’s not much encouraged because it would never be the same. It would be a different piece by then. That’s the same principle in FLORAFAUNA’s tattooing service as well.”

She says her art captures the overseen delicacy of nature—inked on every coarseness—that represents both darkness and beauty, reality and fantasy. Inked and painted on wood, the texture of the wood captures the rawness and imperfection of the subject.

Aside from helping herself from the condition, she also aspires for this endeavor to be a public service in itself. “I want FLORAFAUNA to be a visual representation to those who have this condition to always have an outlet to express it,” hopes Lex. Along with this, she wants people “to see these little beautiful things around us that we tend to oversee that actually makes the bigger picture more beautiful”. She also expresses her encouragement and support to her fellow local “to continue and express their art without any hindrances, without judgement, without standards.”

“What makes me free is that I could do all these illustrations without standards, without aligning it to what the society expects from today's artists, without the thought of fame and acceptance. I'm doing this because it makes me free—free from my own devils and mazes and patterns I cannot fully understand, free in portraying things I find really beautiful and pure and intense. I just do things without the purpose of pleasing everybody. I just want to make things I find beautiful and it makes me content to find other people who also see things the way I see things.”
