whatever it was about his jericho related memories, something inside of him missed it. there was this freedom, ever since they won that was. they won their rights, they won their freedom and connor had chosen to return to hank. though, how could he not? despite the friendships that he could have built there, he knew nothing would compare to the friendship he shared with hank. one he cherished more than anything, one which he was grateful for. it was easy to say that with emotions there came this extra care for hank, every single inch of him wanted to make sure that the man was doing alright and therefor he chose to not leave his side. also, because he really didn’t want to.
emotions were new to him still, especially to this level. where something genuinely upset him, whilst usually he wouldn’t have bothered to stick things in his mind that reminded him of aching. never had he truly felt anything, never was he supposed to.. according to amanda that was, but he was.. relieved, even happy, to actually feel free. how some would even speak aloud that he was more human than some of the actual ones were, but mostly because some didn’t appear to feel emotions. some were harsh, too harsh.. something that he was supposed to be as well, to not give people a second chance.. to be cold, to not be afraid to pull the trigger. yet he was, yet it petrified him.. because even though others said otherwise, deviants were alive. very much so.
that also was something that hank had known way before he did, purely because it was so hard on him to break free from the programming. harder than it was for others, but he knew that his deviancy was something that they had been waiting for. something to achieve, despite it being hard.. then to ruin him, then to make him shoot markus a couple of times. words were spoken that night, and even though he didn’t precisely remember them he knew that they were effective enough to wake him up from the terrible nightmare he was living in. shooting markus, that was something he couldn’t do.. especially now he learned that he had wanted nothing but happiness and freedom upon everyone.
listening to hank’s next words got connor to look down at the floor once more, taking a deep breath. something about him made him doubt whether hank was actually alright or not, but he didn’t understand emotions so well just yet.. and so he chose to not continue on about it. at the question however, he simply shrugged. “ .. yes, lieutenant, i suppose i am.. it’s.. it’s weird. i don’t understand how everything works just yet, it worries me.. but it’s good to feel so free, ” he smiled lightly, it was freedom after all. something he learned to understand only recently. “ .. i’m in, i am sure we can do this, if we only work together, that’s on you, though, lieutenant.. are you ready to commit? ”
things needed to change, even back in detroit, it was a drastic change, but it was a change that was needed. humans needed to be more acceptable. like all the gods that people think made them, they needed to accept that they were also capable of making life forms. why destroy something that was made so perfectly? especially deviants. deviants especially. connor for example, he knew that there was something within him that was trying to get out, but only he could break free from that. at connors words a soft, genuine smile crossed his face, his eyes softening slightly. “well, it will be weird at first...” he admitted, sitting back in his chair, his eyes upon the deviant in front of him, and he gently cleared his throat, trying to figure things out within him. he was still a really troubled man, although he was trying to be a better person, although, the strong bourbon in front of him said otherwise. a sigh escaped his lips, and he reached in to down it in one, before sitting it down on the table again. “i need to stop this...” he muttered under his breath before turning to listen to connor as he spoke. “freedom. not something you are used to, is it?” he admitted, relaxing against his stool once again. “freedom is so... limited in life...” he mused quietly, eyes averting to the table once again. even in humanity, freedom was limited. there were people that thought they were higher and better than others. there were monsters walking the earth freely whilst his son... his son didn’t even have a chance. the memory was painful, hence why he never even thought of it, because then he often found himself reaching for another drink. he didn’t exactly want to do that. “enjoy freedom connor, if anyone deserves it out of me and you, its certainly you...” he admitted. “am i ready to commit? haven’t i always been ready to commit?” he then realised what he had just said, remembering the times he only ever wanted to work alone. “actually, do not answer that. i swear, don’t answer it.” he pointed his finger at him, before laughing quietly and lowering it back to the table. “how times change, huh?”
