Cassandra ( Sam’s mother ) was brought up as a catholic as a child , but as she grew older she strayed away from the religion and placed her faith more in herself than any higher power . This heavily influenced Sam when he was a child , and seeing his mother as this strong independent woman who has moved herself away into atheism - he began to assume that faith and religion ( catholicism mainly ) were a sign of weakness . He told himself as a small , angry eight year old that he would never put his faith in what other’s called God .

This view on religion continued only for two years —————— until his mother became ill . It was then that he saw a change in HER behavior . He would hear her crying in the middle of the night and find her on her knees , hands clasped together in prayer … She even went to church a few times , the days that she could actually leave the house . Sam then came to realize that faith wasn’t a sign of weakness —————— It was a sign that somebody so desperately wanted to become brave .

When Father Duffy took Sam and Nathan in at the boys’ home , at first Sam was undeniably angry with the God that the priest preached . His mother had begged for more time , for peace. But she’d been given nothing and she’d ended up thinking that she only had one chance —————— to kill herself . However - no matter how angry he was , he still went to the Father and gave confession and he even had a rosary of his own that he’d found on a desk - kept for himself in case of time of need .

Although he keeps his faith under wraps at most times and would perhaps refer to himself as an agnostic atheist —————— when times get tough , he leans on his faith as a real crutch . He still has the same rosary from his childhood and a torn and ragged bible that ‘s in his go back so that he knows it’s with him on jobs .

At Sam’s worst times ( when he’s feeling suicidal ) he automatically retrieves his rosary , and grips it tightly , voicing prayers over the beads only in his head . The day that he found his mother —————— she was holding onto her beads like a lifeline and if she went out that way - sam wants to go out the same way —————— if he goes.

He’d seen that FACE , repeated over && over on a loop ; television screen crackling as a call to the county to say YES was aired - the only channel available . Even after Sam had destroyed the SCREEN , knife fracturing glass as though it were offending as an object —————— Sam has watched the clip again , echoing inside his head . John’s FACE bouncing around in there , doing his damage without any need for propaganda.

In person , Sam had told himself —————— If he saw John Seed in the FLESH , things would be different . He’d SEE the evil in his eyes && be able to separate himself from the ache that was beginning to surface inside of his head && chest simultaneously . But , as Sam’s eyes - dark && frustrated , meet the herald’s ? He finds his chin dipping - a beta lowering himself to a bow in front of his ALPHA. A deep breath saws through his lungs —————— he fights internally to lift his face in defiance . ❝ I’m not important ❞ it’s soft , sad . ❝ I’m not a threat to you or your siblings , leave me be ❞ —————— ( @gracicus ♡’d )

CRUEL . The world that swallowed you up && didn’t even have the decency to spit you back out again —————— just held you for an eternity until you rotted away . The hot sun was BAKING Sam as he wandered down the path , feet DRAGGING on the tarmac a little . Knife hung between relaxed fingers —————— head tipping back a little as he listens to the SILENCE before he snaps it in two . ❝ how much do you wanna bet me - ❞ He starts - not looking over at his companion , but instead raising his knife to point towards her . ❝ that there’s NO fucking fuel at this place && that we’ve been sent on a fool’s errand ? ❞ —————— ( @disparatae ♡’d )

Patrons didn’t normally stick around when things got dark ; the drake patrolled his bar - TWISTED grimace on his face . By the time he was at the final stage ( a glass throw across the room , shattering against a light fixture ) the place was empty . His chest HEAVES , narrowed eyes lifting just as the heavy doors swing open - a figure breezing into the dim lighted drinking hole . ❝ I’m closed . ❞ he mutters , sweeping up a half empty bottle of beer && tipping the contents down his throat with BRAZEN need . ❝ go HOME Rafael . ❞ —————— ( @mindaddling ♡’d )

Fingers are bent lazily on hands that raise about his head , Why are his hands ALWAYS above his head - begging for reprieve ? He has YET to see the adversary - but Sam knew when he was being watched , && he’d learned very quickly after the outbreak that SURVIVING was a game of luck —————— that was a game he often won at . ❝ don’t you worry about me , I’m no threat. ❞ His voice is low as he speaks , suddenly EXTREMELY aware of the gun tucked into the back of his trousers - hidden by an oversized shirt . ❝ —————— I’m , I’m not armed . ❞ —————— ( @abiggerworld ♡’d )

Shoulder crushed into wall ; Sam tips his temple to rest against it too - fingers tugging softly but FIRMLY at the curled wire that bounces with every movement of the exhausted man . Phone perched between cheek && chest is a life line that he needs in a moment of weakness , the RINGING sound seeming to go on for forever . ❝ JESS !! ❞ His tone is exultant as soon as the tone ceases . His eyes meet with those of a police officer across the hall ❝ Hey darlin ‘ —————— I’m gonna need your help ❞ —————— ( @devilfind ♡’d )

Demanding fingers grapple with stone for purchase —————— an attempt to PULL himself from the treacherous edge && back into the arms of safety . Throat allows a grunt of exertion to seep free ; There’s always a MOMENT in which Sam wonder whether this time is going to be the last —————— he’s always been a little too dependent on LUCK . It was bound to run out at some point .

ANOTHER PUSH ; Sam cries out , pulling himself up && over onto the crumbling but steady ground that he’d been clamoring for . ❝ holy - ❞ Syllables are snapped by a sudden need to gasp for breath , flipping himself over onto his back so that he can lay in the sun ; one hand folding over a heaving chest . ❝ Nathan - you get ZERO brother points .
