{ æ } When Majima began singing, Makotoâs face lit up with a smile, and she listened for a brief moment before coming to a realization. âOh, I think I know this song! The words are something like this, right?â She cleared her throat before beginning to sing along with Majima.
âSunao ni I LOVE YOU! Todokeyou~ âȘKitto YOU LOVE ME! Tsutawaru sa~ âȘKimi ni niau GLASS no kutsu wo sagasou~âȘâ

{ æ } Makoto was about to go into specifics about the kinds of clients she got in her line of work, when Majima suddenly said something that caught her off guard. He was⊠The Grandâs manager? She thought he was the manager of Club Sunshine⊠Did he have two jobs? That mustâve been it⊠But either way, she had a few choice words for Majima now.
âYou need to do a better job running that place then! Iâve heard plenty of stories about women at your club getting harassed by drunk customers! Iâve even heard that fights have broken out in there! Thatâs not the kind of management a cabaret club should have!â
And now he was getting a scoldingâŠ
âOi, why do ya think the fights start in the first place? Iâm the one who handles drunk clients when they cop a feel oâ our gals. And not all of them are willinâ to bend that easilyâŠâ He might have had one good eye, but that still didnât make him half-blind to the harassment. âNot to mention the ground was too high a stand for that place back when I started. Itâs come a long way, yâknow?âÂ
As if to keep himself from spouting nonsense that would only baby powder his own ass, Majima brought the cigarette back to his lips and took a long drag of it.
âRumors are rumors, though. They ainât all that true. We wouldnât have half the staff we do if I let those guys get feelsy on a constant basis.â
{ æ } âWell, either way, you should make sure that it doesnât happen at all! You need to screen your clients better!â Makoto yelled, unaware that her requests werenât exactly possible. She was just so upset about how the Grand was run that she was saying whatever came to mind at the moment.
âI bet that kind of stuff never happens at Club Sunshine! Why should the Grand be any different? If you can run one cabaret club well, you should be able to handle the other one just as well!â
lcveisbliind:
{ æ } âHa, I always thought of you to be a better actor than that.â She said, not being able to resist some light-hearted jabs in the manâs direction. âBut itâs good that you went along with it for the sake of helping someone out! I knew you had a kind heart, but that takes it to a whole new level.â
âI wish I had some interesting stories to tell you, but honestly, youâve been here to witness pretty much everything interesting thatâs happened in my life. Unfortunately, the life of a masseuse isnât exactly the most eventful one.â Another small laugh.
âMight not be the most eventful thing, but if itâs somethinâ that strikes yer fancy, there shouldnât be a soul out there to talk ya otherwise.â Majima would know⊠even in spite of all the trials heâs been through, the man was willing to go to hell and back if that meant returning to the biz. Right now, he wasnât too sure of his own plans other than to keep this woman alive. âYa got plenty oâ clients tellinâ ya their life histories. Thatâs got to be interestinâ.âÂ
âEven got me sayinâ Iâm the Grandâs managââŠâÂ
Wait a hot minute⊠didnât he tell her before he was a Cabaret waiter, and not the Grandâs manager? In fact, Makoto went so far as to say something about the management of that place being out of control. He may have just dug an early grave.

{ æ } Makoto had to admit, that story brought quite a smile to her face. After giggling for a second, she decided to press for more details on this tale, since it was too good to pass up.
âReally? Some random girl came up to you and asked you to be her boyfriend, just because you happened to match her imaginary one? Haha, I canât even imagine how awkward that mustâve been for you.â She said, laughing a bit more. âDid the dad catch on to the fact that you werenât actually her boyfriend? Or did you manage to fool him the whole way through?â
Seeing Makotoâs smile lit up an ounce of satisfaction inside him⊠it was the kind of view Majima would regret being unable to see more often when he was busy with workâ or perhaps on the day he had no longer anything to do with this woman. That sight alone might as well have meant the end of his nightmares for a while.
âHe caught on pretty damn fast. I hardly got a say on the matter⊠but at the end, he just went through with the lieâ and we were tricking her into believing he bit the bait instead.â Pocketing out a cigarette, Majima was quick to light it up. âMost awkward thing was when her dad wanted me to be her real boyfriend at the end. So much for understandinâ the girlâs situation. She jusâ wanted to be left alone, really.â
{ æ } âHa, I always thought of you to be a better actor than that.â She said, not being able to resist some light-hearted jabs in the manâs direction. âBut itâs good that you went along with it for the sake of helping someone out!     { æ } âOh, no, they didnât.â Makoto said, looking in the direction of the warehouse entrance (or rather, where she figured the entrance was). âThey just stood outside the door, talking about all sorts of things while smoking. Stuff like their girlfriends, some people they beat up for money the other day⊠Things like that. I just kinda pay attention to their conversations purely so I have something to listen to.â
Makoto gave a nonchalant shrug. She didnât really care about whatever the punks talked about, she was just happy to have something to listen to when she was alone.
Although Majima would love to take her somewhere, it was far too risky a gamble⊠maybe if he didnât stand out like a sore toe in Sotenbori, and perhaps had a good eleven or so eyes less stalking him everywhere he went, he might have been able to venture out unnoticed.Â
âSo ya like hearinâ stories?â Reaching up, the male nonchalantly scratched his chin. âI ever tell ya âbout the time I had to pretend to be a galâs boyfriend so that her dad would quit tryinâ to set her up and get her hitched?â Of course he hadnâtâ Majima hadnât told this girl a thing about him. âWell, thing is, she described an imaginary boyfriend to her dad who matched my looksâ kinda got me thinkinâ if she hadnât spotted me somewhere before that day.â

lcveisbliind:
{ æ } âWell⊠Iâll accept only if youâre sure it wonât be too much of a burdenâŠâ Makoto responded, trying to keep herself from crying. âIâm sorry that you have to go out of your way so much for me⊠I wish we didnât have to live this kind of life⊠I donât even know why all the yakuza are after meâŠâ
But then again, did she really want to know? For all she knew, this situation was completely out of her control, and she would never be free from a life on the run. She would be escaping the grip of the yakuza for the rest of her life.
âBut still⊠Thank you for looking after me. I really appreciate it.â
That might have been a bit mean, but for once, Majima was glad this girl couldnât see the look in his faceâ he could have sworn it had grown hotter, and wanted to blame it on the weather even though hell could have gone cold that night.
âWell, itâs kinda my fault ya âere still⊠couldnât finish off the job, so I might as well look after ya.â He would rather face that as a means of doing his bidding than to accept the budding feelings which had already pierced their roots through his chest. âYa mentioned somethinâ âbout punks outside the warehouse though. They ever try to get in?â
{ æ } âOh, no, they didnât.â Makoto said, looking in the direction of the warehouse entrance (or rather, where she figured the entrance was). âThey just stood outside the door, talking about all sorts of things while smoking.     { æ } âN-No, please donât feel the need to put yourself out of you way for my sake⊠I-Iâm sure I wonât have to stay here for much longer, I can handle it for a few more daysâŠâ That was a bold-faced lie, and Makoto was sure that Majima would be able to tell as much, but she decided it was a worth a shot to try and appease his worries.
âY-You have a job to do, I donât want to keep you from it just because Iâm too clingyâŠâ She continued, shaking her head slightly. âI-Iâll be fine, I promise. You can just⊠keep doing what youâre doing.â
For a woman who had gotten so close to his heart, Majima sure knew how to keep his distanceâ that was seen in how, instead of taking the seat right next to her, he found one on the sofa close to that. Hell, Majima wasnât opposed to sitting on the floor if that meant steering clear from discomfort on that womanâs end.
âEh? Clingy? I can deal with that.â Majima was merely playing along in one such way as to brush off the guilt. âI donât really take days off, but whatever. If the brass asks whatâs up, Iâll jusâ have him know I got a part-time on the side.â Which wasnât a lie⊠well, not altogether one at least. âCanât blame ya though. After all ya been through, it would be strange not to want a familiar face around.â That said even though they hadnât known each other for that long.

Iâll accept only if youâre sure it wonât be too much of a burden...â Makoto responded, trying to keep herself from crying. âIâm sorry that you have to go out of your way so much for me... âBut still... Thank you for looking after me. I really appreciate it.â
Truth be told, Majima didnât believe himself physically capable of leaving this woman to her own devices after her pouring her heart out like that to him. It seemed like the rock bottom of cowardice to have heard all that, then make his leave as though his ears were deaf and eye blinded to her situation⊠to her fears.
No could do⊠Majima didnât have what it took to walk out on her. Not like this.
âI can stay,â he paused ominously, almost as though reconsideringâ a word once given is past recalling. âFor one nightâ or two, if Lee takes too long.â The man was sure taking his sweet time. âBut then I gotta bounce.â

{ æ } âY-Yes, I knowâŠâ Makoto muttered, looking down at the ground in shame. She hadnât meant to cause Majima so much trouble after everything he had done to keep her safe, but she was just so tired of being alone⊠Hours on end just spent listening to nothing. Occasionally a few punks would park themselves outside the entrance to the warehouse and Makoto could listen to their conversations, but other than that, she had nothing to listen to but utter silence.
Not being able to hear anything on top of being blind was slowly driving Makoto insane. She just had to escape for once. Just go out, and be with someone. Hear something. She couldnât take just sitting still for who knows how long waiting for Majima to come back.
âIâm very sorry⊠I promise, I wonât cause any trouble for you anymoreâŠâ

{ æ } Makoto was still shaking like a leaf as she held herself tightly to her brotherâs body. Who knows how long they had been running? It felt like everywhere they turned, yakuza were gunning for her head for some stupid piece of land that she didnât even want.
She had been dragged around this way and that by several people, dropped into âsafe spotsâ so often, only to have to leave them within days. She was so tired of running. She was tired of having to escape the yakuza. She just wanted all of this to be over so she could live a normal life.
âBrotherâŠâ She muttered, tightening her grip on the man. ââŠI-Iâm so scared⊠I donât want to keep running like thisâŠ!â

{ æ } Makoto could tell that she had made a mistake by coming here. She was only causing Majima undue stress by being here. However the man made a valid point. She got here entirely by luck, and she didnât trust herself to get back without help. And Majima was working right now, so it wasnât like he could help herâŠ
âUm⊠I could hide here, maybe? This is a staff only room, right? Maybe people wonât expect me to be here. Itâs like⊠hiding in plain sight, right?â She offered weakly, hoping that would be a good enough answer for Majima.
âIâm sorry for causing trouble⊠I just didnât want to have to sit alone in that warehouse again⊠Itâs so depressing. I can try to get back on my own, but itâd take a whileâŠâ
Just as heâd suspected, this woman must have been bored out of her mind⊠or so he thought. Or maybe, just maybe, Makoto was fearful of being alone. Like a crying puppy pawing at the door, only that it didnât know how to open the handle due to its inability of reaching that far up.
This woman⊠really did follow him all the way here to stay by his side, didnât she? That was⊠admirable. But reckless, very much so.
âI canât have you stay here. This place isââ Majima delivered, but soon to be interrupted by a curious one who seems to have overheard them.
âWhat do you mean she canât? Didnât Erranda just quit the other day? We have an open spot!â Yuki butted in, already entering the backroom and pulling off her wig. âWhatâs your name? Are you from Sotenbori? Iâm sorry our scary manager is like that⊠he gets a bit moody when heâs caught by surprise! Iâm Yuki by the way. Are you our new hostess?â
What in the
âShe ainât!â Majima interrupted, only to be brushed off by an I wasnât asking you from Yuki.
{ æ } Makoto was caught off guard by the sudden new voice that entered the room. Well, she supposed that this was a staff room, so people who worked here could come and go as they pleased... The thing she especially wasnât prepared for was the question the voice asked.
New hostess...? She hadnât really even considered working here, but maybe it would be convenient? Majima would always know where she was if she did, after all. Plus, Majima did say she was coming back here for training... Maybe itâd just be easier on everyone if she just kept going with the lie. She didnât want to cause Majma even more stress.
âA-Ah, yes, thatâs me! My nameâs Makoto, itâs nice to meet you!â She said, staring in the general direction of the voice. âAh, please forgive me if I donât look directly at you. I... canât exactly see.â
lcveisbliind:
{ æ } Makoto was about to explain herself to Majima, when she suddenly felt herself being pulled to her feet and led off in another direction. âA-Ah, wait, I was justâŠâ
However, before she could get an explanation in, Majima came up with some excuse as to why she was here. Well, since it was clear Majima was nervous about her being here, and since she was already inconveniencing him enough, she just decided to go along with his lie.
âA-Ah, right⊠Sorry, I figured we would hold my interview out here, but⊠I wasnât aware that it was business hours. L-Letâs go to the back, so we can conduct my interview in privateâŠâ She said, allowing Majima to lead her off towards the backroom. âSorry for making a scene!â She called out to the club against her better judgement.
With a hushed thatâs enough, get a move on Majima, about as delicate as a bore, practically shoved the woman into the staff only backroom. With a deep intake of breath, he pinched the bridge of his nose as though to rid himself of a headache before grabbing the woman by her sides and shaking her a little.
âWhaddya think youâre doinâ âere?!â A better question would have been how she got there with half the countryâs Yakuza on her trail. âAnybody see ya cominââ you know what? Scratch that. Ya wouldnât be able to tell anyway.âÂ
Now, just how was he supposed to get that woman back inside their hideout? It was one thing for a girl to be waltzing the city on her own, but something else, almost otherworldly, for some sketchy guy with an eyepatch to be dragging her into shady alleyways. Asking Lee to do it would make things no less subtle, and sending her off on her own wasnât something he was so much as willing to try doing.
âI canât have ya here, but I dunno how to get ya back in the warehouse either. What am I sâppose to do with ya?!â His voice was a little unhingedâ affected by frustration.
{ æ } Makoto could tell that she had made a mistake by coming here. She was only causing Majima undue stress by being here. However the man made a valid point. She got here entirely by luck, and she didnât trust herself to get back without help. And Majima was working right now, so it wasnât like he could help her...
âUm... I could hide here, maybe? This is a staff only room, right? Maybe people wonât expect me to be here. Itâs like... hiding in plain sight, right?â She offered weakly, hoping that would be a good enough answer for Majima.
