HE'S BEEN WORKING DOUBLE SHIFTS ever since she got here — early mornings on his own ranch, afternoons spent on her farm. the days seem to spawn extra hours, but as declan's settled into this new routine he finds comfort in keeping busy, in the way his body aches when he allows it to rest against bed sheets before the early morning sun beckons him back to life. and in the pockets of time where he is not preoccupied with a task, he finds himself studying her, ignoring the way his heart thumps in his chest; ignoring how she has brought color into his dull gray, how she's found ways to illuminate his darkest corners.

it's easy to keep it at a distance until it's not — until he turns his back for a minute only to hear a yelp in cherry's familiar tone. he's quick to spin on his heel, arms outstretched as she comes tumbling down from the ladder she's been balanced on top of only a second ago. « woah, you okay ? » declan asks, giving her a gentle push until she's no longer leaning on him, taking a step back sheepishly. his gaze drops from hers the moment they meet, too scared of what he'll find mirrored in her dark hues — or rather, what he won't find. « i told you to be careful. »

"now what the fuck would i have to say to you? thought we were moving on from each other but you keep looking at me. can't you control your eyes?" warren flicks the roach into the firepit roaring in front of them. all night he'd been trying to avoid the other. warren knew they were going to be here because they shared all the same friends. "surprised you didn't bring someone to rub it in my face." he turns his head to watch them from the camping chair he's sprawled out into. if he were less high he'd be more mad but as it stands he's feel more mushy than anything else. "but guess all that staring means you're still obsessed with me." @jellyaced
