thanks for the art tips! i'll work at it more, it's not very easy for me because i'm a traditional artist trying to do digital art. i don't fully understand layers? if you're able to explain how layers work it'd be greatly appreciated :} sometimes i'm probably just hard on myself for how my art looks, but i'm still trying to improve and learn things!

I use procreate but layers should work the same on whatever app you use. Layers stack on top of each other, so whatever you’ve drawn on lower layers will appear below the higher layers on your canvas. Most people sketch on one layer, and they do line-art/rendering on layers above that. Its usually easier to make changes to your art if it’s on multiple layers, because you’re working with the pieces separately. Not sure this was explained very well, hopefully it’s at least understandable 💀 putting a photo in here cause that might help. I could hide/delete one of these layers without going through and drawing/erasing over everything! Theres definitely a lot more I could say about how layers work, but again I’m not the best at explaining things. Theres also a pretty good chance that you are just being hard on yourself. We’re our own worst critics, and we see mistakes in our own art that other people probably won’t. Its cool that you’re trying to improve :] good luck!

how do you improve your art skills? i do draw and sketch a lot and i was wondering if you had any tips? because i feel that i'm not where i want to be with my art you know

wish I had some better advice for this buuut...

I’d work out what parts of my art I want to improve in the most (anatomy, shading, colours, etc). Think about the parts you want to get better at, and find some artists that draw those parts in a way that you like and use them as reference. Most of the time progress isn’t fast, so the best advice for improvement that I have (besides using references) is to just keep drawing! You’ll naturally get better as you practice more, especially if you’re thinking about what you can do to improve next time. There's also no shame in tracing if you think it could help you improve, and most artists don't mind having their work traced for learning purposes as long as you aren't posting it and claiming it's yours. I’m probably not the best person to ask because it's pretty rare that I take the time to do studies or whatever, but I still hope this helped at least a little bit 😭 (also sorry for the late reply, I hope you get to a point in your art progress that you're happier with!)
