When she smiled at him, he felt it like one of Cupid’s arrows to his heart. He was surprised his pupils hadn’t turned cartoonishly heart-shaped, themselves, his smile widening as she spoke. “You never have to be nervous – you couldn’t bother me if you tried.” Eddie laughed then, dragging his teeth over his bottom lip. “I was hoping you’d come… you know, you made my whole night? Maybe my whole weekend.” He pushed open the door that led from the main part into the back where their bunks were. It wasn’t nice or new or elaborate by any means, but it was pretty cool. “C’mon, it’ll be a quick tour, then we can sit and catch up.” He reached his hand out for hers then, smiling sweetly. “Do you want my autograph, Chrissy?”

Chrissy almost let out a nervous giggle at Eddie’s words, unable to stop her cheeks from turning red. She moved a strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear, her lips shifting into a smile. “I didn’t know you’d be so happy, or else I would’ve tried to come earlier.” She didn’t want Eddie to know just in how much trouble she would be if her parents even suspected where she was, or how different everything was from her daily life. Maybe those two facts made things even more exciting. “Oh, do I get any cool merch for being one of the early fans, too?” She replied jokingly, holding unto the hand that the male offered out to her. She wondered if he knew just how proud and happy she was for him to be living one of his dreams. “Honestly, going from city to city sounds really fun. I wish I could come with you.”

“You could always come by my place, if you wanted. There’re picnic tables in the park… a shitty little playground, might be fun.” He suggested with a lupine grin as he settled in front of her. He could tell, though, that something was still amiss. Often, Eddie wished he could crawl into her brain – just to see what she was thinking. “You alright?” He asked, opening up his handy-dandy lunch pail to produce a bowl, some weed, and a lighter. “I’m here to chase all your worries away, Chrissy Cunningham. Join me…”

If Chrissy had been distracted by what else might have been hiding the woods, Eddie’s words managed to bring her back to the conversation happening at the moment. “Um, where do you live again?” She asked, not sure if they had ever talked about where they lived. Her hands nervously fidgeted under the cover of her oversized school jacket’s sleeves. “It’s just... has it ever happened to you, that everything in your life seems okay, but you still feel... You still feel like there’s something making it hard for you to breath, pressing over your chest?” Chrissy’s hand went over to her heart, as to further prove her point, while looking at Eddie. “Perhaps I’m just going crazy.” She muttered, eyes lowering to the wooden table in front of her. “Do you think weed will help with that?”

Eddie looked at her with that dopey smile, shifting his weight from one foot to the other as he led her through the back and over to a refreshment table. It was their first stop before heading to the bus. “We got a couple more weeks after one… or two? Yeah, I think two days off, so, you could’ve caught us somewhere else, but it would’ve been further away.” I would buy you a plane ticket, he doesn’t say with his words but with his eyes, with his intent. “Uh, yeah, actually, I think there’s a hotel pretty close to this venue that we got a few rooms in. If there’s not one open, I’d be happy to let you have my bed, I could crash with Jeff or Mitch or Gareth.” He offered her that sunny smile again, grabbing a bottle of water before leading her further back, out the back door and over to the bus which was already on and waiting. The air inside was cool, and Eddie was grateful for it. “You’re lucky?” He asked, looking over his shoulder with that lupine grin. “I’m lucky. I’m so glad you came. Did I say that already?” He asked as he stood in the center of the main part of the bus. “Did you want a tour?”

With the offer of his room, there was really nothing else that should’ve worried Chrissy other than having a good time with Eddie. She mirrored his smile, almost looking relieved at his words. “I was... I guess I was a bit nervous of coming. I didn’t want to bother you, I assumed you would have a lot of things on your mind right now.” Although, now that she thinks about it, perhaps what he could want in moments like those is something steady when everything else is moving so quickly. “But now I’m happy I did.” Chrissy smile got brighter, if that was possible. “Of course, please do. I don’t think there’s anything more badass than having your own bus tour. You guys are already celebrities in my book.”

“  even  if  they  are,  ”  breathes,  chin  propped  up  proudly.  “  hardly  a  chance  you’ll  ever  see  me,  like,  begging.  ”  jaw  clenched  at  the  thought.  just  might,  if  she  really  has  to.  would  just  prefer  it  not  going  down  that  route.  hadn’t  ever  stooped  so  low  and  doesn’t  have  the  intention  to  make  this  a  first.  “  more  interesting  ?  ”  tries  to  think  of  something  but  she  falls  short.  how  could  anything  be  more  interesting  than  what  she’s  done  ?  “  fine,  whatever.  ”  still  doesn’t  seem  like  she’ll  get  much  assurance  that  he  won’t  say  anything.  “  a  secret  for  a  secret.  ”

Simon smilled at her display of pridefulness; It was something he admired in a way, the ability to keep feeling a sense of superiority despite the odds being against someone. “Of course not. That’s for regular people, right? And you’re not a regular person.” There was a sarcasm-filled playfulness in his words, as he closed his laptop and got ready to leave. As if he had changed his mind on the last minute, though, the male paused, gave Amira one last look. “Out of curiosity: Did you do it on purpose?” It was a loaded question. Simon knew that the chances of her replying were low, specially in an honest way. Still, sometimes you hit something even when you shoot in the dark.

Eddie had hoped she would come, but he had been uncertain. He’d given her a few different dates, and they all passed without any sight of Chrissy. He figured it was hard for her, maybe it wasn’t her scene, and that was okay, but he was always a little disappointed. As the music faded, however, and he finally had a moment to hear, he thought he caught her voice in the crowd. Looking down at her, Eddie brightened immediately and reached his hand out for her. It wasn’t like they were super famous, there wasn’t much distance between him on the stage and her in the crowd, but she would need his help to get on or backstage. He hoisted her up once she had his hand, and he smiled down at her when she was in front of him – suddenly just a little self-conscious of all the sweat rolling down his body. The lights were bright. “Hey…” He said. “I’m so glad you came… c’mere.” He put his hand on her shoulder and steered her toward the back so he could hear her better. “I can’t believe you came all the way out here.” He couldn’t hold himself back, he leaned in and hugged her – quick because of the sweat, but his grin only widened. “You wanna stay and hang out for a while? We have tomorrow off…”

“I wanted to see you guys before the tour ended! Are you having a good time?” Chrissy was so glad to see Eddie, she didn’t even notice his sweat-covered state; all she could focus on was how happy he seemed to be about her being there, and about the way his arms wrapped around her, as short lived as it was. “Yes, of course. In fact... I was hoping you’d know somewhere I could crash for the night?” Being impulsive wasn’t Chrissy’s thing; going to a different city without a plan wasn’t something she did often, or ever. But being with Eddie gave her a sense of security, as if it was alright as long as they were together. “I guess I’m lucky I came the night before your day off.”

If Chrissy had any doubts about whether or not she should go to see Eddie’s band play in one of the cities they were touring on, those doubts vanished the moment she saw him on stage. Any trace of worry about coming off as too invasive when they weren’t anything official dissapeared, instead being replaced by a sense of joy for fighting off her fears and taking the chance of travelling all the way there. Chrissy wasn’t sure if Eddie was able to see her at any point of the gig, and she wouldn’t have blamed him for not doing so, as he seemed understandably busy. But, the moment the band stopped playing and they got ready to go backstage, Chrissy exclaimed for his attention until she was sure he had seen her. “That was so good! It made the trip so worth it.” Chrissy shot Eddie a smile. “Makes me wish I could go on tour with you guys, too.”

“People like me?” Far from offended, Chrissy seemed mostly surprised, as her gaze raised towards the male’s eyes with an inquisitive look. Books pressed against her chest, hesitation started to seed inside of her. Maybe she shouldn’t be there. “I just thought... well, I have a bit of a problem, and I guess... I heard you can help me out.”

He was caught somewhere between a laugh and rushing to her aid, settling for the latter, helping her back to her feet. He really hadn’t meant to scare her. “I guess there’s no conspicuous way to come out of the woods without being a little scary.” Eddie replied, offering her a little smile as he brushed some of the debris off her elbow. He looked around, scrunching his nose. “I don’t think the woods are creepy, but, uh, yeah, you got a better place we could meet?”

Was there anywhere they could meet, that was as peaceful as the woods? Yeah, theycould be scary, but at least no one bothered them there. Even if Chrissy wouldn’t have minded being seen with Eddie around town, she didn’t want to get him any trouble; not with Jason, not with her own family. “At least no one bothers us here, no?” If getting a little spooked was the price to meet with Eddie, Chrissy was willing to pay it. Still, as if the male appearing wasn’t enough confirmation that there wasn’t anything around, Chrissy kept looking around, albeit in a less obvious way than before. “I’m glad it’s you, though. Even if you scared me a little.” Chrissy’s eyes set on Eddie, her expression of worry shifting into a smile. “The woods are less scary with you in them, Eddie Munson.”

"What thing?" Chrissy inquired softly, the gaze that had been previously fixed on her lap raising to look at Eddie. "That I'm trying to buy...weed?" In her eyes there was the kind of sadness that wasn't the one that appeared from one moment to the other; it was the kind of sadness that was built over the days, over the weeks, the kind of sadness and desperation that Chrissy couldn't seem to shake off no matter how hard she tried. "Or that I have heard some good reviews about you?"

“I guess I meant what style?” Eddie continued, smiling at her. He figured it would probably be for the contemporary individual, someone who fit the norm. It would be the best business model, after all. He listened to her intently, like every word she said really mattered – because it did. “That’s… that’s actually really sweet. Do they get along well? Is it a match made in heaven?” Maybe he wanted to know more about Chrissy’s homelife, more about her. She was growing more interesting by the minute. “My parents met at a truck stop.” The thought of it made him laugh, and he shook his head. “Far less romcom material.” More like the beginning of a psychological horror. “I’m willing to put in the work, Chrissy! I’m worried about you. You have to really put yourself into it, ya know?”

“Classy daywear, I suppose?” Chrissy had never thought about what style her parent sold in the store, because, well, it was more or less the only style she knows. It’s very hard for someone like her to imagine wearing something she made herself, something completely unique, and it only makes her feel more admiration towards Eddie. “Nothing out of the ordinary, really.” Chrissy’s smile flickers for a second, and in her eyes appears something that reassembled a lot like doubt. But just as it came, it left, being instead replaced by a soft laugh. “They have been together for more than twenty years, so...” Chrissy replies, as if that was the right answer, the one she has already memorized and said a million times already. Then, her smile gets a little softer, her eyes a little more honest. “And I mean, I think any first meeting can be romantic, no matter where it was. What makes it romantic is the people in there, more like the place itself, don’t you think?” The conversation shifts, and suddenly Eddie is asking her if she’s willing to really commit to it. Is she good enough? “Now I’m really curious about it, after everything you told me. Maybe we can try once, and afterwards you tell me if I’m made of the right material to play it.”
