jude was one of sebastian’s first friends when he first started at masters. they shared little antics and bonded almost immediately after they made their first empty conference room tik-tok– which undoubtedly secured their friendship, that and mama valentine’s biscuits and jam. so, it was safe to say that bro-nding saturdays were very special. raising his glass towards the other’s he listened intently to his cheers? (( not that sebastian would call it that but– )). “don’t beat yourself up too bad.. you guys have two very different careers and don’t really get to see each other.” he said before downing the small serving of champagne. “ms. boohoo said let me hop back on. i don’t know why you entertain it bro.” he said with an eye roll seeing that he only tolerated partially tolerated her because of her involvement with jude. “well i’m almost positive i’m in love with three people so, yeah! cheers.” he shook his head some trying to figure it out himself before discreetly taking out a flask.

𝐀 𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐃 𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐓, yes, but somehow jude felt like it still didn’t stick, like it landed flat when faced with the fact that a whole stalker was after the person he saw literally every single day. “ i dunno’, man, ” he frowned, pushing a hand through his hair distractedly, “ i still feel like there’s going to be a knock on my front door soon, and it’s gonna’ be fedex, and the guy’s gonna’ say here, here’s your package for being the worst person alive. ” ms. boohoo ? he wondered why seb chose that particular nickname for gen -- he’d only see her cry a couple of times himself. “ i think she genuinely just wants to be friends now, ” he shrugged, optimistic as ever. or maybe naive was the better word, who knew. but jude was almost solidly certain that gen was done with him in that sense, and that she just wanted to maybe get coffee every now and then and that’s it. “ three ? ” his eyebrows shot up, both at the statement and the following flask. “ dude. three ? what’s been going on, man ? ”

was sebastian one of those people who threw themselves into retail therapy when things were unclear in his life? absolutely. did he really need that juicer he got last night from the qvc channel? no. yet here he was, aimlessly wandering the racks at barneys. it was officially summer and his summer work attire needed some new pieces. tom ford wasn’t his go to, but judging by some of the pieces he had recently put out sebastian was surly intrigued. he held up a woven mint green short sleeve button up– as soon as he picked it up he knew, but someone interjected confirming his thoughts. “i’m trying to be adventurous– i think it’s the short sleeves. a little too business casual for my liking.” he found her eyes in the mirror before turning to face her fully. they had spent hours in this store, that and probably the deposit for a nice sized house in the L.A. hills too. “well.. what would you suggest?” he asked innocently knowing damn well what he was doing. if he couldn’t entice daisy in normal conversation– she could probably pretend she didn’t hate him enough to pick out a few pieces for him. sebastian saw it as a win/win.

𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐏𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐃 as she looked at the shirt in more detail. " it is adventurous, ” she could agree with that, “ but i-work-at-sweet-frog type adventurous. ” maybe it was the green that was putting her off, but who was she to save sebastian from a fashion disaster ? she probably should’ve kept her mouth shut and let him buy it -- then she’d get the satisfaction of seeing him walk into the marbled lobby of their office looking like a sorry ice cream scoop. so that was going to be the end of her interactions with him, but then he asked for a suggestion, dammit. he asked the same girl who once spent ten grand in one day on clothes, for clothing suggestions. “ givenchy started putting out their men’s lightweight line, ” daisy said, pointedly not looking at him as her fingers brushed over a dress by armani that caught her eye. “ it a lot of silk and satin tops that they’ve been styling with the first few buttons undone, all mostly lighter colors and patterns but nothing, like, tacky. i’d say look for something similar here. ” a pause, and then, because she couldn’t seem too soft, “ or don’t. ”

Had it really been more than two months since word had gotten out about him? He didn’t think so, but, then again, time really seemed to fly when you had meetings every week where you were lectured about subpar work. It seemed unlikely that this guy was that out of the loop, considering how much office gossip he learned even when he wasn’t actively seeking it out, but it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing that he didn’t know. “No - no, just curious, I guess.” He felt a shiver go through him as the other man looked him over, nibbling at his lip, holding on to one of the stationary bike’s handlebars. “I do not think that I lack strength, per se, but I do think that you’re probably stronger than I am, and, like I said, I do not want to hurt you.” Robin nodded once again, giving a little shrug. “You aren’t the first person to be an asshole to me, and I doubt you will be the last. But if I went around hitting everyone who was unkind to me, my knuckles would be far more damaged than they are today, and I need my hands to work, so… unfortunately, there won’t be any punching. But thank you for the opportunity nonetheless.”

𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍, eyebrows raised slightly in curiosity and also a dislike for feeling left out, and asked him, “ are you going to tell me what you do ? i’d trade by telling you what i do here but you already know, so. i can instead tell you which metal detector to avoid on thursdays and save you ten minutes each morning. ” a pretty fucking valuable exchange of information in his eyes, at least, even if all he’d be getting out of it was what worthless floor this guy worked on. “ God, you’re nice, ” he shook his head at what he said, expression on his face almost able to read as both pleasantly surprised and but also caught off guard in a sort of dubious way. most of the people, definitely including him, were dickheads, and here french accent was, saying he wouldn’t want to hurt him and that people were assholes to him. “ you handle getting treated like shit a lot better than most people here, ” he commented. “ or, at least, better than me. does it ever get exhausting ? ”

“   i have a serious question. like , it’s life or fucking death.    ”  okay , she was absolutely being dramatic , but she was itching to know the answer to the question she was about to pose. she took a seat in the break room  &  twirled her fork around in her manicured hand as she prepared the very vital question. being that she was with the theatrics , she had to keep the anticipation with a long , drawn out pause.  “    okay , so…    ”  she started with a serious look spreading across her face.  “    would you rather have a popcorn kernel stuck in your throat for the rest of your life or have cheeto dust stuck on your fingers for the rest of your life  ?  choose wisely  &  i also wanna know why because this is key information that i need to gather. for research.    ”

𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐎𝐑 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 ? while jude was at least vaguely aware that this girl in the break room with him was most likely amping up the dramatics for... whatever reason, the law in him couldn’t help but stand up that much straighter from where he was leaned against the counter, waiting for the coffee machine to warm up. but then he heard the actual question, so. “ i’m assuming you’ll throw something at me if i say neither, ” he murmured, keurig bubbling behind him as he thought. “ i think i’d take the dust, if i’m bein’ honest. if i had a popcorn kernel stuck in my throat i’d always be afraid of eventually choking when trying to eat other food, y’know ? ”

he was too cute for her own good, heather thought, even just standing there doing nothing. doing nothing but looking handsome, doing nothing but talking to her about books. "well, you could try audiobooks, too,” she offered, because no matter what, heather was going to advocate for finding a way to keep books around, physical or otherwise. “i did not!” she laughed, leaning back in her seat, shaking her head, “i would never.” she hummed as her smile softened, considering his words. “i guess so, but that’s not really…hm. i don’t know if i’d consider that a factor of mystery stories? i think the finding out how was what actually qualified it as a horror, not so much a mystery.”

𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐑𝐔𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐃. it was a logical suggestion, but even back in his normal days, he’d always preferred the actual book in his hand opposed to, like, kindles or whatever. and then now, in his fucked up days, he couldn’t really care less about reading a book at the moment. “ you’re really advocating for this book, huh, ” he said instead, because his observation was true, at the very least. he raised an eyebrow at her denial, smile small as he looked at her. “ you definitely did, ” he maintained, getting that much more comfortable as he leaned against the frame of her office. “ then maybe i actually don’t know shit about mysteries, ” he deduced, hands now shoved into the pockets of his pants. “ besides, like, nancy drew. ”

“no i fucking don’t you stupid fucking deadbeat.” sierra slammed her laptop screen down and stood up. “listen to me, you little shit. you are being dramatic, and you’re being a little bitch, too. frankly, it’s really fucking annoying. unless you want to be escorted out of my office, fucking leave. okay? i know you don’t want that attention drawn to yourself. so i’m giving you ten fucking seconds to leave me alone.” she groaned. he was being so damned annoying. “ i am not going to fucking tell anyone about you, adrian!!” sierra yelled, getting extremely pissed off. “are you fucking deaf? you’re not even worth my time, anymore. the last thing i need is people knowing i even thought that you were.” she stood up and walked around her desk, shoving adrian out of the door. “do not fucking come back to my office or i’m going to make sure you lose your fucking job, you hear me?”

𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆. the sun rose every morning, the breeze filtered through the trees, and sticks and sierra always fought -- it was just the nature of things. the very twisted, annoying, infuriating nature of things. “ deadbeat ? ” he repeated with a frown. “ i can’t be a deadbeat when i don’t have a kid. ” they gave their kid away and to probably way better parents, so as far as he was concerned, he wasn’t a dad and therefore couldn’t be a deadbeat. “ then fucking count to ten. go for five, even, i don’t give a shit. you know who you have to call to get me escorted out ? security. you know who receives those calls ? fucking me. so, i’m going to stand here until you can get it through your dense fucking skull that this isn’t something you should be taking lightly. ” and then she did it. she fucking did it, didn’t she ? she said his name -- no, she yelled it. “ what the fuck is wrong with you ? ” he almost exploded, glaring down at her. God, he was praying that the thickness of the glass walls at masters at least muffled the sound of his name, or that the people in the nearby offices just really weren’t listening. “ do i have to tell you that if people find out about me then you’re most likely going to get fired too for you to listen and to not fucking scream my name ? ”

jude’s last upload on instagram was during the hawaii trip. before that, he hadn’t posted in nearly a year. he doesn’t use majority of his social media for a specific main reason, but the one he’ll say to your face with that convenient little accent of his, is that he’s simply too busy with trials and case work to ever think about posting something. that, and he keeps forgetting his password ( is it uofalabamaobjectionandcowboyboots97 or 98 ? ) 

the actual reason ? like many of the problems in his life, it all boils down to the cheating. because, if he’s active on instagram, wouldn’t lindsey expect him to eventually post a photo of her ? he’s on her page, after all, and they are engaged. and then wouldn’t tiffany expect the same, and abby, and diamond, and carla, and jenny n., and jenny y., and all the other girls he’s accidentally made think he saw them as more than just a hookup and regrets in the form of an hourglass silhouette ? 

the thing about being an active cheater, he’s come to realize, is that the best way to go about it is basically being dead -- there’s no expectations when you’re literally not alive, right ? right ? so when he slips out of someone’s bed like a spirit in the night, when he treats their apartment like a crime scene, is careful not to leave fingerprints or evidence of his existence, when he ghosts the girl without her ever receiving a text from him ever again, he knows he’s safe. the thing about hooking up with a lawyer, you see, is that he knows how to get away with anything. and sure, okay, yeah, he’s probably hurt the girls’ feelings, but by pretending there’s not a soul in his body, by pretending to be nothing but a vessel and a blocked number, he’s safe. for now.

↳ MASTERS TASK. 002

daisy moretti's aesthetic is chiefly pink, but not in a glaring way. not in a head-to-toe, two-piece vintage chanel tweed suit in flamingo pink and little pompoms on her heels sort of way, because even though she firmly believes she should be taken just as seriously as someone in a dull gray suit, she can begrudgingly see how looking sort of like a walking cone of bubblegum cotton candy could be more detrimental than not. 

she likes pink for the same reason elle woods does, or cher horowitz: it’s just a pretty color ! there’s no deeper meaning to the particular combination of saturation and pigments she’s always been drawn to ( even though ethan newton in second grade said pink is for losers, duh, and she’s been bitter ever since ), no underlying motive of wanting to take over the white house in a pink blouse. 

but... it certainly does help her i-shall-crush-every-man-under-the-heel-of-my-toe-like-a-cigarette-bud, i-am-the-valley-of-the-shadow-of-death, thing she’s got going on when she can be powerful and a force strong enough to give katrina a run for her money and do it all in society’s chosen soft and gentle color. forget red and its war ties, forget purple being used for royals, let color psychology be damned; wait until you see someone rule the world in pink.

sometimes, it’s easier to focus on the little things during a big moment than the actual moment itself. like how on the ride there, the first x in the exxon gas station sign he’d passed by was flickering, how his thumb had been mindlessly bitten down to a nub, how the weight of what was in his backpack couldn’t have been more than some of his textbooks. his hands couldn’t stop shaking when he finally stood in front of his target, but it wasn’t out of nervousness, no --  it’s like when your hands are shaking when you open up a present on christmas day, or when you peel open a letter you’ve been anticipating for months. that’s not nervousness, it’s e x c i t e m e n t.
