hi there! first off, I just found your blog and I love it already. In just under a month, my boyfriend will be leaving for college 760 miles away from where we live, and about three weeks after that I'll be starting my senior year of high school. A lot is changing for both of us, and I'm worried that because of that it will effect our relationship. Do you have any tips for a young couple being on opposite sides of the country and also going through those big changes as well? Thanks!
Tracy says: I think as long as you are both aware of the changes that will happen you can work it out just fine. Be sure that you plan times when you can Skype. I know that you’ll both have really busy schedules and that the transition will be hard to adjust to, but seeing each other face to face can help so much. Texting and things like that are so great for keeping in touch and updating each other on the day to day things that happen. But getting to talk and see each other means so much as well. Sam and I will even “Skype-sleep,” where we leave Skype on overnight so we can fall asleep and wake up together. It gets a little hard what with time zone differences (which I assume with 760 miles y’all will have to deal with at least a little), but it can still work. I’m glad you like the blog, and keep us updated on how things go and the little tips y’all figure out along the way! :)
Hi! Thank you for following! I really like your blog! I'm not nearly as far away from my bf as many other people in ldrs but this blog and seeing other people's blogs and cute ideas makes my day and makes distance SO much easier. So thank you for being here and being super awesome! :)
Tracy says: No problem! That’s exactly what we had in mind when we created this blog! And hey, distance is hard no matter what. We all wanna be there with our significant other, and being away from them will always kinda suck. But we can all get through it together! :3
I saw you followed me and I really like the idea of your blog!! I'm actually about to overcome a 3 year, 10 month long distance relationship and I'm so excited!! We've been in the process of getting his K1 visa since last August and he finally picked it up today and is flying here Tuesday. He's from England and I'm from Arkansas in the U.S. We were something like 4300 miles apart and it did get very hard at times but trust me. Save all you can and it can happen! We are getting married July 25 :)
Tracy says: Congratulations!!! We’ve gotten to hear about several weddings just recently and we’re so happy to hear about each and every one! Each one is conquering a LDR and a huge encouragement! Thank you for sharing and congrats once again! :D
I will get to see my baby in 24 days after 11 months from Germany to SC! Staying strong for the final countdown:) thanks for the follow!
Tracy says: We had actually been talking about starting a page for countdowns for everyone’s meetups eventually! I dunno if we’ll have it up in time for yours (especially since we’re pretty late answering these asks. Sorry!!), but we’re very excited for you! That’s a long trip, but completely and totally worth it!
Hey thanks for following us we've been together now for almost two years and not actually met in person because of the cost of flights but we're officially going to be living together by the end of the year we can't wait :)
Tracy says: Flight costs are one of the biggest problems. I wish there was a way that they didn’t have to be so stinking expensive. But congrats on making it happen and definitely on getting to move in together! That’s really exciting and it’s gonna be quite the wonderful adventure!
I just need help. My bf is moving from UK (already 4000 miles) and going to Spain in 9 days. He will have little to no internet connection. My family doesn't know, so snail mail isn't much of an option. I'm so scared. I don't know what to do. I just need someone to talk to because this is breaking my heart.
We’re so sorry to hear that, anon. Not talking to your partner can be hard especially when they’re travelling. Maybe he could log on at least once a day just so you can make sure he’s okay. An interesting idea could be leaving each other long messages which could get you through the day. This change could be challenging for your relationship but maybe you could grow stronger within this situation. Now, if this change is more permeant and internet connection is hard to find maybe you could talk to your family about having a pen pal? Or ask a friend of yours receive the letters for you instead of getting them at home. Finally if nothing works you could always rent a PO Box so your mail could be kept safe there.
Just a note...
...we’re gonna have the asks that you guys have sent us out really soon! Sorry for the delay. Life just came and life-d all over the place and I (admin Tracy) didn’t have time to get on my computer. Plus I just moved and didn’t have internet till yesterday. And admin Sam wanted to wait till I could get on. But I’m back! (For now at least!)
90 Day LDR Challenge Days #4 & #5
Day 4: What was your first impression of him/her?
Sam says: My first impression of her was that this person must be really smart and creative. We were working on stories for our roleplay blogs and it felts like our style and our ideas were similar and I appreciated that. When we actually started talking aside from our roleplaying I realised that this girl is the biggest dork.
Tracy says: I remember being nervous cause I’m not so great at getting to know new people, even online. I just get super nervous and if we don’t click it can become...kind of a chore? (Which doesn’t for a second mean don’t message us cause I LOVE talking to you guys and hearing your stories!) But we totally clicked so fast and I was put at ease really quickly. So I guess my first impression was that she was really easy to talk to.
Day 5: How did you meet? Tell us your story!
Sam says: Well, like we mentioned before we met online. We’re both hardcore Orphan Black fans and it was a slow summer after the season finale. I saw a post here on tumblr of a roleplay blog asking for people to join. Most of the main roles were taken so I decided to create a new one and apply. Turns out they did on the same day they accepted Tracy as well. We were the “newbies” of group so we bonded fast through our stories. Eventually the group started shipping our characters together and a few weeks later I realised I had a tiny crush developing on the person behind the character. A moment that I can pin point during that time is when our characters were talking about smores and the next day I rushed to buy some marshmallows. It was silly but I had started letting her affect my daily life until she was all I could think of. Barely a month later I asked her to be my girlfriend.
Tracy says: Well, she pretty much told it all like the big dork that she is. ;) But yes, we were both kind of the newbies of the group. Everyone else already knew each other, and while they were really kind and welcoming to us I think we were both feeling that we were the ones who were the newest. So we talked a ton, and before I knew it I was dying to talk to her every day. She always came online around 3 in the afternoon my time so I would anticipate 3 every day. I had gotten a little used to people getting annoyed with me for being too...pushy...I guess? And so I would wait for her to message me first kind of as a confirmation that she really did wanna talk to me. And then as time passed (and not much time. Like a week lol), we were talking practically 24/7 and I began to realize that I had a crush on her. =]
Hey, nice blog idea :) My man and I met year and half ago here in tumblr and he lives in Florida and I live in Finland. I´m 7 hours ahead of him and 900809809898986987979 miles away. We see each other in every three months when he flies here for two weeks. It hasn´t been easy but we are perfect to each other and we are getting married in 7th of august <3 He works 7 days per week to save the money to move here next winter. But yes, most definitely long distance relationships can work :) <3
Tracy says: That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you two! Long distance relationships can definitely work out, and you two are a great example of that. It’s hard when there’s so much distance and time between you, but I think that it really does make couples so much stronger. Thank you so much for sharing with us! It’s so encouraging to see couples that long distance has worked for! :D
Sam says: The distance you guys have reminds me of the distance me and Tracy have. Sharing your story with us gives me hope and I’m sure other people could agree with me. Keep your love strong and be positive. That’s the best message we would want to promote. Thank you for sharing your story with us. (Also, congrats for your wedding!!! We’re so happy for you!)
90 Day LDR Challenge Days #2 & #3
(So I [admin Tracy] didn’t get online yesterday so we’re gonna do two days in one. ;))
Day 2: Where do you both live, how many miles/kilometers apart are you, and what’s the time difference?
Tracy says: When Sam is at school we are 4,387 miles and 6 hours apart, and when she is home we’re 6,241 miles and 8 hours apart. (Yikes, looking it laid out in miles like that is scary.) She’s home right now so the time difference is interesting. o.O (A.k.a she doesn’t sleep. lol) It’s really kinda cute cause she pretty much lives in my time zone instead of hers.
Sam says: Instead of answering the same thing I wanna focus on how it feels to be living in a different time zone. It might sound bad that my regular sleeping time is 6-7 in the morning but in reality it’s not that bad. I’ve been having trouble sleeping all my life so turning my natural clock a few hours back just for her is not much of a chore. I mean, sure it’s hard when I actually have to get up early in the morning and end up getting barely 5 hours of sleep but she’s worth every minute. I’m glad I’m awake cause it feels like I’m included in her daily life instead of missing half of it. That means the world to me.
Day 3: How long have you two been together?
Tracy says: We’re coming up on our 8 month anniversary July 9th. It really doesn’t feel like it’s been that long, but I guess it has!! And that would mean that we have known each other for 10 months now. Which also means that we pretty much should have been dating all this time cause we were looking back at out first conversations the other day and we were both like “just kiss already!” lol
Sam says: It feels like a life time but not in a bad way. It’s the strangest thing cause I can remember like it’s yesterday when the first butterflies appeared in my stomach but it also feels like we’re one of those mature “old” couples that are just naturally together. I don’t know if I can explain it (or if there are any proper words to describe the way I feel for that matter) but it’s easy being with her. It’s been 8 months and my heart beats fast as the first day but my mind is calm as if we’ve been together for years.
Hi! Im in LDR and i would just like to tell you how much I appreciate your blog.. i love it! I smiled the moment I saw it! go team LDR <3
YAAAYYY!!! We’re so glad you appreciate our blog. We really hope to be helpful and make LDR easier for you guys. Team LDR!!! <3
so my relationship isn't as long distance as yours, only a couple hours drive, but sometimes especially during the school year and when we're busy, we have to go like a month or longer without seeing each other and it sucks. can i still follow/use this blog even though it's not as far?
Of course you can! Even though you’re one of the lucky ones we can still understand how daily life/school/work can keep you guys apart. Soon we’ll upload lists of useful links or tips for any kind of long distance relationship. I’m sure some of them could be useful for you too! In any case, we would love to hear your story and support you in any way we can!
The babe and I went to a starbucks for a date--free wifi for skyping and there are starbucks everywhere.
Tracy says: That’s a wonderful date idea! And creative. Sometimes even though you love one another sitting at home can get a little dull. So creative date ideas like this that get you out and about are great! Thanks for sharing!
90 Day LDR Challenge Day #1
Day 1: Introduce yourselves! What are your names, and ages and what do you both look like (post pics!)?
Tracy says: Well, we already posted pics when we created this blog, but Sam if you wanna add one please do! I think they’re all on your computer. lol But anyway! I’m Tracy and I’m 23. I live in the southern U.S. and met my dork on a RP here on Tumblr. =]
Sam says: I’m Sam, 22. I’m from Greece but I’m studying in Cardiff, Wales. I look like a huge puppy and she looks like a cute kitty but somehow we fit :)
