i’ll start: i think magna’s group added very little to the plot and probably should’ve been omitted to keep the already bloated cast down

I think they should have switched Carl and Gabriel’s (maybe tweak how he went missing a bit) storyline in season 8. Carl missing and presumed dead would have driven Rick sufficiently insane to keep his story line intact, Michonne’s should stay intact with minor tweaks also. I think the “ gotta be something after” talk would have sufficed to prevent Rick from killing everyone. But Carl would be alive and Negan and Gabriel would be dead. Win, Win, Win!
