Interview on Bookbinding Now
I recently enjoyed recording a conversation with Esther S. White for the podcast, Bookbinding Now. We discussed a variety of topics including DBQ, my upcoming residency at Women’s Studio Workshop and, of course, this August’s performance and installation of Untitled (Book Objects) at A.P.E. Ltd. Gallery in Northampton, Massachusetts for 2x3: A Generative Art Residency Project, curated by Esther S. White and Trevor Powers.

Over the summer, I was commissioned to make a new logo and portraits for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s e-merge journal, which launched its 2016 Beta issue yesterday. I appreciate the fluidity of the journal’s publication schedule and the platform it provides for an opportunity read about the unwieldy realm that is an academic approach to arts administration.

Employing a variety of paper types and printing processes, the physical makeup of the book, C, V [CMD+C, CMD+V], 2014 mirrors the content. Abstracted monochromatic imagery, created using a variety of photo-reproductive methods, layer on top of each other. These collaged images create a fluid narrative to lead into the smaller, inset booklet of generative text collected by manipulation of Optical Character Recognition software.
This project was made possible with the support of the SAIC Student Publishing Grant.
