But always you do eventually because I never did. And we go out for cases. You’re as clueless as usual and give me some compliments as always. We run. We hide. We chase. Feel our blood pumping up the veins. And we laugh. Ridiculously. And we go home. Together. You go to your room before me always, you wish me good night and rarely I reply but I know you don’t care. And I sit armchair, play the violin occasionally.

And wait for the next morning.

…When I out from palace they’d been gone mostly. I was managing it like that.

I’m going to bed now and I’m thinking about how in the gay pilot timeline, right now, john and sherlock would be reading their baby girl that was born via the same surrogate as harry’s own child was (so they’re sister/cousins!) a bedtime story until she falls asleep, and they retire to the front room to absent-mindedly watch the news while their hands loosely intertwine, the baby monitor in sherlock’s dressing gown pocket.

they’ll discus the plans for the rest of the week; john will do some days down at the surgery and sherlock will finish the case that mycroft gave him earlier in the month, and they’ll take their daughter to molly’s to have a play date with her son while the three of them go over the files to a mysterious john doe that washed up on the strand the day before.

john will move to put their mugs away, but sherlock will pull him back to the sofa gently, and he’ll press a soft, chaste kiss to the good doctor’s hand before letting him up to put the empty mugs away.

“Shall we go to bed?” john will ask, holding an outstretched hand for sherlock to take, and they will.

they will go to bed together, because they’ve been in love for twelve years now, and everything is alright.
