@leanna-harper
I told my father when he forced me to pack a few nice dresses that I'd have no need for them.
Damn I hate it when he's right.
It just seems so⌠unprofessional to force a party. Some of us have jobs to do at these hours.
It is... probably. Actually I don't think there's a law in the book about that. Â I know some companies make their employees go to Christmas parties in order to receive their Christmas bonuses. Â Maybe this counts as the same thing.Â
Hanging Around Without Power || Leanna and Joanna
Joanna smiled in response and slowly tucked her weapon into its holster. Harper was no threat. She knew that even she didnât have the clearance to pull down the protection field.
"Of course not. I would never do such a thing." Jo laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of her neck.Â
She walked up to Harper and peered over at the vehicle. There didnât seem be any outer damage done but that didnât mean anything on the inside wasnât tampered with.
"Yeah, well, late nights spent finishing up paperwork and reports. I rested my eyes for one minute and suddenly I wake up to the alarm going off." She squatted down trying to get a view from underneath. "Who called you down here?"
Leanna smiled at Beech, "I know you wouldn't, I'm just messing with you." She watched the other woman look curiously at the car she had been inspecting and dusting for fingerprints. Lee almost laughed when Beech said that she had been resting her eyes, she herself remembered all too well the long nights and the "resting" of the eyes.
Then Beech asked who called her down here and sighed.  Lack of communication bugged her so much, though it seemed to be rampant here in Heron. "I'm not sure, he didn't give a name.  He did say that there had been a break in and he needed to report it. I hope that no one else has been in her since then and tampered with the evidence, either purposefully or on accident."   Â
Lee looked a the vehicle and then back at Joanna. Â "You know how these things work, right? Do you want to help me?" Â She wasn't really in the habit of asking for help, but she knew that she was way out of her league with this. Â She had read the manual once, but that's all she really knew, she couldn't tell off the bat if something had been messed with or not. Â
Iâm late but hopefully fashionably so? Iâve never been good at navigating that line between tacky late and fashion-forward late. Is there decent food, at least? Got caught up running through a few calculations and didnât eat lunch or dinner.
"I don't think anyone ever really notices if you are fashionably late or not. Â None of us really want to be here. Â Well maybe a few people, just not enough to keep this party alive. Â The food is decent, the same we always have to eat though." Leanna shrugged her shoulders. "But hey, the bar's open." She said, raising the glass of champagne in her hand and taking a drink.Â
A party?!
Discount chocolate the day after is the best, absolutely.
Well, Iâm sorry light-years of distance couldnât get you away from Valentineâs Day. Truly.
It definitely is. The only good reason for the holiday, I'd say.
Yeah, I'm sorry too.  I thought I wouldn't have to deal with this holiday here, but I guess I was wrong. Somehow my father had foresight into this, or something, because he made me pack a dress and a few nice clothes.  So i mean I guess I have something to wear.  though I am tempted to just show up in my uniform so I'll get left alone.Â
Well...
When did parties become mandatory for holidays that serve no purpose? -fidgets with her hair-
The day that Weyland agreed to pay our salaries. Â As much as I don't like or enjoy the holiday, they pay our salaries, so I'll endure it.
A party?!
My first thought, as well. Last thing I need is a redux of getting ditched at my junior high Valentineâs Day Dance.Â
Oh, that sounds horrible. Â I just don't like Valentines day because there's way too much pink and way too much consumerism. Â The holiday is basically just a way for chocolate companies and card companies to sell things. It's rather annoying.Â
A party?!
Does that mean youâre bringing valentines and candies for the rest of the class?
Uhh no. Definitely not. Â I tend to avoid everything to do with valentines day. Â I just eat the chocolate and that's it. Â
A party?!
What? Are we in middle school again? Â
Hanging Around Without Power || Leanna and Joanna
It was the alarm going off that woke Joanna from her unintentional nap on her desk. She groaned as she rose from her seat and rubbed the sleep and grogginess from her eyes. The red alert light on the was flashing rapidly, illuminating her in res in the dark room. The furrowed her brow in confusion. Her movement should have turned the lights back on.
Jo waved her hand high in the air to activate the sensors. The lights flickered on. She walked over to the control board map to see which section had been tampered with. Section 12. Jo pulled out her ID badge from under her shirt and grabbed her gun from the desk drawer. No one should have been able to access that particular area. It was in the restricted zone.
She flashed her badge and slowly stepped into the semi-darkness. Jo kept her gone down by her side, gripped tightly with both hands. Section 12 was protected by a âforce fieldâ (as it had been called by the company) and somehow it had went down.
Jo approached the area quietly focusing in on the back of another female looking over the vehicle. She coughed loudly.
"Harper?"
Her mind worked faster than her body and by the time she had spun around to face the source of the noise, she was calm and new exactly who it was and what threat level they possessed. Â Which was a level 2 on a scale of 0 to 5, Zero being no threat at all and five being a catastrophe (usually bullets were flying at this point) Â The level was a 2 because Leanna noticed the presence of the gun, She smirked and decided to tease Beech about it. "Are you going to shoot me now?"
Leanna knew that it was only protocol to carry a gun, and she was really just teasing Joanna in her own way. Â Though she was curious why Joanna was carrying it. Usually a side arm was only drawn when walking into unknown and potentially dangerous situations. Â She shouldn't be a dangerous situation.
She looked at the girl curiously. "What are you doing here? I thought everybody would have returned to the barracks by now."Â
Dissolve | Madison & Leanna
"Stolen equipment?" She questioned, looking the blonde over as if offended. "And you really think you will find the perpetrator here in the Science department? Where we have access to everything and more than most everyone here?" She rolled her eyes, shaking her head as she looked down at the paperwork again. "That just sounds really ignorant of you." She stated dryly before looking back up to the woman. She really wasnât sure why in the world this woman was investigating something like this here. Like any of them in the lab would waste time stealing when someone could get what they wanted, one way or another without such actions.
Of course, once the note pad came out, Maddie grew a bit defensive. It was like seeing Michelle with her notes. She suddenly had the want to chuck the microscope at this womans head. âExcuse you, but that-â She motioned her finger at her pad. âIsnât happening. You want to question me? You should have asked first, not started and expected me to cooperate.â She turned and clicked her pen. âGo pester someone else a bit more willing to point out everyone around them they think could be thieves.â She motioned for her to shoo.
"Honestly? I don't think I will. Â But the scientist is was stole from seemed to think someone in this building did steal it, so I have to follow up on it. It's protocol." Leanna keep a calm mask of professionalism. Back on Earth she was used to dealing with people who were skeptical, but she hadn't had practice in a while and was just the tiniest bit rusty. Â She knew her job was secure, but getting complaints about unprofessional behavior might make them reconsider and she didn't want that to happen. Â She wanted to be perfect.Â
Leanna almost visually rolled her eyes, though she managed not to, still she was sure that it came out in her voice. Â "Touchy. Â I was just checking the name of the lab that put int the report. Â It was just a simple question, I'm not questioning you though." Leanna closed the notebook and put it back in her jacket pocket. Â She just couldn't remember what lab had put in the call, they all looked the same to her really. Â "Right, well ma'am, if see something suspicious please call. Â Though I'm pretty sure the "missing" equipment is in that mess of a lab back there." Leanna muttered the last part to herself, though she was fairly sure that the young woman could still hear her. Â
Youâre a writer too? Have you talked with Sonya - I bet you two could come up wit some crazy stuff.
Um, do you think thatâŚdo you think that thereâs any possible reason to get the next trip delayed? I mean, off the record.
I'm barely a writer. Â I took a few classes in college, and I guess I liked it, I just didn't see myself doing it forever. Off the record? Â Honestly being in the caves I had a strange feeling in my gut about being there. Â Just I can't prove there was anything there, so I can't really say to postpone it. I do know that next time we go out I'm going to ask for more security. You know... just in case.
Senior! Wow. I bet you have some interesting stories to tell. And come on, you canât tell me it wouldnât be a little fun to chase me through the colony. Iâll even let you throw me in the brig for the night.Â
Senior isn't that much of an accomplishment. Â I'ts only the second level of the job, at least in Germany. Â I'm not sure how other countries work. So it might be a little fun, but it would be a complete waste of time.I'm supposed to be protecting everyone, not chasing some idiot through the settlement.
Hanging Around Without Power || Leanna and Joanna
Leanna got a call over the radio about a break in. Apparently there was an unauthorized entry to one of the hangars and the maintenance worker that called it in said that one of the vehicles looked to be tampered with. Â Leanna had told him not to let anyone touch it before she got down there so she could dust for fingerprints. Â There was a strange sort of elation in Leanna, this was the first major thing that she had been called to investigate since her arrival here and she sort of missed it. She wasted no time grabbing the forensic kit from the equipment locker, and unused forensic kit that Leanna noted as she grabbed it. Â She wasn't used to working with new things. Typically getting new equipment was like pulling teeth from the people in charge. Â It was a nice change.Â
Upon arriving at the hangar, Leanna scanned her Id card in and the light blinked green. Â She wasted no time with finding the vehicle and inspecting it for any sign of who might have done it. Leanna was so focused on inspecting the vehicle for prints and the tempering for any hints of DNA that she hadn't hear someone come up behind her. Â That is until a sudden noise made her jump and spin to face the source of the noise.Â
Right. Then they go on getting mad that their data is lost or damaged. Especially the science team. Youâd think they be better at keeping up with all their data.
Maybe we should just get lost and found.
They do? Â That's irritating. I hate people who blames others fro things that aren't their fault. Â the only one that should be responsible for your actions is yourself.Â
Wait? We have a lost and found?
