Загоняться - to worry/ to overthink

It’s a widely used informal reflexive verb. Means to worry about something too much, think about it all the time, be nervous.

Я постоянно загоняюсь по этому поводу - I always worry about it

Он снова начал загоняться по учёбе - he started to worry about his studies again

Он загонялся (past) - загоняется (present) - будет загоняться (future) verb “есть” + infinitive

A Year in Language, Day 164: Russian Russian is a Slavic language, the largest of all Slavic languages in terms of speakers and geographic territory. It is the eighth most spoken language in the world, seventh including second language speakers, and second most used language on the internet after English, though the two spheres don’t often interact. Russian begins to emerge as a distinct linguistic unit apart from other East Slavic languages around the 14th century, and would be heavily influenced by Germanic and Turkic languages as well as Mongolian. Russian, like most Indo-European languages, is fusional, meaning it makes extensive use of inflection for grammatical meaning, and that these inflections are often packed with multiple layers of grammatical information. It has six cases and three genders, and verbs agree with the subjects. Like many Slavic languages it has a well developed system of motion verbs, which have their own paradigms of inflection and prefixes to express direction, verbal aspect, path, etc. Almost all Russian consonants come in “hard” and “soft” pairs. Phonetically “soft” consonants are palatalized. Interestingly enough, though palatalization is a feature of the consonants it is written as a vowel distinction. So /ne/, with no palatalization, is written “нэ” and /nʲe/, with the palatalized “n”, is written “нe”

Pronunciation Tip: Soft [f’] in Russian

I found out that many English speakers struggle with the soft [ф’] sound, particularly when it is the final sound in a word, for example кровь, свекровь, церковь and so on. My American colleague, a fellow linguist and accent coach, suggested that the softness comes from the lower lip movement. I think, this is pretty much true. So, to make a nice soft ф try to lift the lower lip a bit, as if you are about to pronounce ‘few’, make that muscle that moves the lower lip dense and slide the lip a bit forward. That should work!

You guys I just found something that’s pretty cool if you’re interested in practicing listening in your target language (and learning something new altogether at the same time!)

Khan Academy has a bunch of videos in foreign languages and apparently it’s called Khan Academy International (here’s a link to their tumblr).

They have content in quite a few languages, and while some of them have mostly math and science stuff, there are a lot of channels that delve into a lot of the other content that Khan Academy English does, like art history, world history, etc.
