Polish Christmas Carols
#polish #polen #polska #poland #christmas #meal #barszcz #uszka #borschtsch #wigilia
In Poland we donāt sayĀ āhazel eyesā, instead we sayĀ āoczy piwneā which literally translates toĀ ābeer eyesā and I think itās beautiful.
To that person wanting to learn Polish: look for a tandem partner, too. I am not sure whether this is a thing in your country, but in Germany there are numerous tandem FB groups and it's really helpful for language learners. What you basically do is ask for help in a language and in return you can offer help in another language, if possible.
Yes, Iāve heard of something like this, buuut Iām not sure where you can find such a website/group/etc. Does anyone have more info on this?
how do you say how old you are? thanks for your help!
Informally: Ile masz lat?
Formally: Ile Pan/Pani (Man/Woman) ma lat?
Ile masz lat literally translates toĀ āhow many years do you haveā
I've just joined the kik group chat and it would really be nice if there were more people because I live in south FL so there aren't too many Polish people I could make friends with haha. Do you think you could join too?
Yeah I guess so. I donāt use kik but I could make an account. Message me more about it!
'Å' shounds like 'sh' and 'sz' sounds more like the 's' version of 'cz'? Does that make sense? I think that's the best I can explain it. :-P (You said you couldn't tell the two apart in soun so I thought I might try )
Thank you for trying but I donāt see the difference... lol :(
Polish Word of the Day: NiedÅŗwiedÅŗ
Pronunciation: N'YEJ-v'yej,Ā
Translation: Bear
For the person who says they're fully polish, they should ask their parents to speak polish in front of them because that's the best way to immerse yourself and learn quicker. My parents don't speak English to me to help me practice always
Definitely :) Itās also nice to practice with your parents because they donāt care if you make mistakes and they will, sometimes, nicely correct you lol.
Do you think by just using Rosetta Stone I can become close to fluent in Polish?
Iāve never used it so Iām not sure. Has anyone tried it for Polish?
Hey, I absolutely love your blog! So helpful! I just wanted to let you know that there are some new KIK groups for language learning created by a polyglot on tumblr @linguisticnerd. If you download the KIK app and type in #tumblrpolski into the search bar, there's a chat that's filled with Polish learners and even a few natives. I was just wondering if you could let your followers know they can practice their Polish writing and reading in the chats. Thanks!! ~ xoxo
Thatās great! Thank you :) Itās definitely a big help if you can talk with others who are learning and natives.
I really want to learn Polish, I feel bad because I'm fully polish and I can't talk to my Grandma, how long do you think it'll take for me to learn a lot of polish?
Ahhh I donāt know. It depends on how much time you dedicate to it. If you really want to improve then Iād say get some books or CDs teaching it, Rosetta Stone kind of thing, which you can even get for free from a library. Learn the basic things- greetings, question words, and simple conversation, then build from there.
Hi! I really want to learn Polish, but am struggling to know where to even begin. My boyfriend's parents, like yours from what I've read in your 'about me", immigrated from Poland and had him here in America. He grew up speaking Polish and learned English at a young age. He is very little help because he doesn't realize how tricky the language is. Any advice? Thanks!
Iām not sure where he should start. I posted a lot of websites he could try. Probably the more structured books, CDs, etc. might be helpful which you could buy somewhere or get from a library. Best thing would be to talk with his parents more or go to Poland as much as possible. Itās important not to try too much at one time. Have to be exposed to the language and try to understand it a little at a time. Learning a language should be filled with sparks of interest and not stress over little grammar rules. Listen to Polish music or watch films, to really hear the accent well. Hope this helps :)
About that anon who asked about Polish, Russian & Ukrainian: my friend studies Ukrainian & Polish at Uni and she has confirmed this many times that Ukrainian sounds much more like Polish than Russian.
Yeah this is what I was also thinking! Thank you :)
How did you learn to write in Polish? :D (I saw on other asks that you were born/live in the US)
The nice thing about Polish is that itās written exactly how itās said. I never actually learned how to write. I learned how to speak first and then the writing came naturally. I do of course make mistakes at times because for example,Ā u and ó are the exact same sound, same withĀ rz/ż and ch/h. A lot of times I donāt know whether to write sz orĀ Å, even though people tell me theyāre different...I donāt really hear it lol. My writing isnāt perfect but Iām pretty good at it; itās the grammar that kills you.
