Chapter 4 Index
Author's Note: I'm baaack! I'm so sorry that this took so long to get out, but I made it a longer chapter to hopefully make up for it! Unfortunately I think the next chapter will be a bit late as well (gotta love travelling for work + holidays) but if it is I'll make chapter 6 longer as well. Please enjoy!
The leaves crunched under your boots as you made your way to your meeting spot. It was cold now and getting dark so early. The season’s work had picked up considerably, leaving you with long days filled with manual labor. All you wanted to do in the evenings was relax and enjoy a warm meal with Laura and Stan, but instead here you were, trudging your way into the middle of nowhere to meet with a giant spider monster.
It was a strange situation to be in, but you had noticed a small change in Mars’ behavior as the weeks followed. He began showing himself more frequently. Once again, he kept to his end of the agreement, at least attempting to be more civil when he did see you. That being said, he was god awful at concealing his true feelings, and you could often tell when he was judging you or biting back a scathing remark.
It was a slow change, but he seemed to be in a better mood recently, and the two of you began sharing actual banter during your brief exchanges. Shockingly, he has become a bit pleasant to be around.
"It’s, ah... impressive, actually, that you’ve gone this long without someone else noticing you.”
“Who’s to say they haven’t? You know that I’m perfectly capable of dealing with anyone who becomes a problem to me.”
“...”
“...Fine! Ugh, you’re so dull. I migrate to different areas depending on where my prey goes. Usually when the seasons change. I don’t typically stay in an area long enough for someone to see me.”
“Does that mean that you’ll be leaving soon, then?”
“Ha! You don’t actually think that I would pass up an opportunity for free meals so easily, do you? And besides... isn't my presence giving your little life some excitement? You don’t want to live such a boring existence; it’ll make you grow old too fast.”
But you did want to live a boring life, and your strange acquaintanceship wasn’t enough to keep your resentment from growing. This job had been a godsend for you. It had given you a purpose, albeit a simple one, and kept you grounded during a time when you were spiraling out of control. You didn’t need much, just something steady to help you get back on your feet after a mental breakdown had left you in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but an empty tank of gas and an overnight bag that you had hastily packed in your hurry to run away from everything that was suffocating you.
You could still remember that hot morning when Stan’s beaten-up old truck had pulled up next to you in the middle of your sobbing. He talked you down from your panic and transferred some of his fuel to your car. You had no money to repay him with, but he insisted that joining him and his wife for dinner at the local diner would be enough. That night you found yourself spilling your story out to them, much to your mortification. But they both felt such sympathy for your situation that they proposed that you work for them while you decide what to do next. It felt like a dream, how well things were beginning to work out for you.
But now... now, you could feel your loss of control. You were still visiting this place, and upholding your duty, out of fear of incurring Mars’ rage. The way that you were working your body into exhaustion was a painful reminder that you did not want to be a part of this.
But you had no choice, and here you found yourself yet again stumbling out into the cold night to feed your extortionist.
“Well! You’re early tonight. That excited to see me, huh?”
He was such a large creature, with eight legs as thick as tree trunks, but you’ve never once heard his footsteps. How strange. You didn’t even bother turning around to greet him, instead focusing on stretching your aching back. The fallen log that had mysteriously appeared in your meeting spot last week may not have been the most comfortable seat, and you could do without all the webbing, but it was better than sitting on the ground and offered a nice little reprieve for your sore feet.
“Mmm, yeah.”
“Yeah? So you are excited to see me! Although I know that you always are. I’m starting to think that this whole deal was a part of your plan to become my best friend!”
“Uh huh.”
You could tell by the tone in his voice that he was in a good mood, and with a lot more energy. Which was really a shame, considering that when he wasn’t, he’d grab the food and fuck off quickly after leaving some rude comment towards you. Though you knew that giving lackluster answers usually caused him to push your boundaries until you caved to his pressure, you didn’t have the energy to entertain him tonight.
“...Hey.”
And there it was. This is the part where he starts to get angry. You turned to face him, ready to muster up some enthusiasm for your apology, but the look on his face stopped you. Maybe it was because you were so tired, but he almost looked concerned.
“You look like shit.”
You rolled your eyes and turned back around, this time focusing on rolling your stiff shoulders. “Thanks.”
“You sick or something?”
“No, I’m... I’m just tired. You know, the harvest is under way, and we’re trying to get everything done before the season is over. Stan’s back isn’t what it used to be, so I’m trying to do most of the heavy lifting for him... It’s just, you know, a” -you gestured vaguely- “really busy time of year.”
You hadn’t expected to be so open with him, but your exhaustion had lowered some of your inhibitions. He was quiet for a while, not even touching the steak that you had left out for him, as he looked down the path that you took to get here.
“It’s a long walk out here, isn’t it?”
“...Yeah, it is.” 45 minutes, in fact, and that’s not even including the time I spend talking to you.
He hummed, deep in thought, as he absentmindedly sunk his fangs into his meal. You let yourself rest your eyes for a moment, not wanting to subject yourself to the nightmarish image of that meat liquidizing and sliding into his mouth.
“Don’t come back here for a bit.”
You flinched awake at the sound of his voice. “For how long?”
“I’ll let you know when you can start feeding me again, but for the next little while, don’t come here.”
“You’re not going to hur-”
“I’m not going to do anything bad. God!” he huffed, and you had to let out a tired laugh at his reaction. For someone who claimed to not know anything about humans, he certainly had a way of sounding like one.
“I’m not going to leave a message like last time, but I will let you know when our deal is back on. Now leave.” As funny as he could be, you knew that it was smart to leave when he told you to. And... if you were being honest, no positive interaction with him could ever compare to the utter bliss of a hot shower and a cozy bed.
---
You used your break to rest and reconnect with your benefactors, from whom you’ve grown a bit detached from. They were as lovely as ever, even though the stress of the season was clearly weighing on them both. The three of you kept each other’s spirits up by helping each other out when you could and reassurances that the worst was almost over.
You also used your newfound free time in the evenings to research spiders, even making a trip into town to buy two books about this area, one about the local fauna and another about folklore. You weren’t expecting to find much, but it was still disappointing when you received no answers on what matter of creature Mars really was. While you may have learned many “fun” facts about spiders –those were not, in fact, miniature legs in the front but rather pedipalps, and the fangs release a venom into its prey which contain digestive enzymes- you couldn’t find a spider that resembled him. He looked like a tarantula but hunted like a wolf spider. He left long webs hidden on the ground which resembled sheetweb spider’s webs, but he used them differently than they did. In the end, you had to give up. You may never know exactly what he was... but he was Mars, and you were content with not bogging yourself down with details.
It wasn’t long before you saw him again. You were unlocking the door of your cabin when you saw his silhouette at the edge of the forest. It was, to your surprise, a nice bit of familiarity that you had come to expect.
“Come on, I want to show you something,” he said when you were close enough. He immediately turned and led you down a new path, one that had been hastily cleared. Did he do this? How had you not heard him when he was so close to you...?
“Look! My new den!” You were shaken from your thoughts at the sound of his voice. You could see it at the other end of the (freshly created) clearing, which looked to be a giant hole disguised by brush and webs. “This will be our new meeting spot!”
“Mars, it’s, uh... very nice. But are you sure that’s a good idea?” He looked so proud of himself, and you regretted asking him. But you couldn't shake the feeling that he should not have done this.
“Of course it is!” He said it as though it were the only reasonable answer. “I needed a change of scenery, anyway. Hey, do you have any more of that steak back at your place? It won’t take long for you to go back and get it. I’ll wait here.”
You were okay with resuming your deal, and you understood why he had chosen to be so close to his meal ticket, but something about this felt off. You didn’t like how easy it would be for him to enter the farm. There were too many variables, too many things that could go wrong if he brought attention to himself. Dread began to build inside of you the longer you stayed here.
“Mars, I’m serious. You’re way too close to the farm. What if someone sees you?”
“Who cares?!” he laughed. “You know me - I’ll just kill anyone who does!”
Despite his lighthearted tone, you didn’t laugh back.

Chapter 3 Index
Author's Note: Sorry that this is late, everyone! My schedule picked up unexpectedly and unfortunately I do not think that I will have chapter 5 out this weekend. I definitely will next week, though.
After your encounter, you were surprised by how normal everything felt. When you returned to the farm, Laura was in tears, and she demanded that you never enter the woods alone again. You swore that you wouldn’t even though you knew it was a lie. This agreement that you had been forced into... it gave you the worst pit in your stomach, and once again, you barely slept that night.
What you had never expected, however, was to find that your life had remained practically the same. You completed your daily chores as usual, and after dinner you would quietly make your way into the clearing where you met that creature and leave some raw meat out for him. For the first few nights, you would loudly announce your arrival, but when he refused to show, you would leave the food in a visible place and quickly make your leave. In all honesty, you didn’t want to see him again. If he held up his end of the bargain, you would be happy. And to your surprise... he did.
It was a few weeks into this routine that you saw him again. You had been standing up from placing the food on the ground, and when you had turned around, he was right behind, barely illuminated by the dim light of your flashlight. He said nothing as he passed by you to reach his meal, and, feeling quite awkward, you quietly made your leave so as not to disturb him.
“Going so soon?”
You jolted when he spoke. Between the silence and tension between you both, his voice felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped on top of you. Wanting desperately to leave, but terrified to go unless you incur his wrath, you stood there awkwardly.
“...”
“...What?”
“Uh-! Nothing...”
It’s time to go. You should have realized that the moment you saw him. And yet, as you turned to leave-
“Who are you, anyway?”
“...No one.”
“Hmm.” Disinterested, he turned his attention to the raw meat in his hands. He sunk his two gigantic fangs into it and waited for a moment before it began to soften in his hands. Slowly, he began slurping the liquidizing meat into his mouth. You were frozen in place for the eons it felt like as he devoured it. If you weren’t in shock from the disgusting scene, you would’ve vomited right where you stood.
“Hah...” You were so lightheaded that you had to sit down. You had to focus on your breathing, on the ground in front of you, and tune out the wet smacking of his mouth.
“You’re very boring, you know that?”
God, he just kept going, didn’t he? Your irritation won out over your disgust and you looked up at him. He wasn’t even looking at you, he was distracted by something in the distance while absentmindedly licking his fingers.
“Well -who are you, anyway?”
A disinterested shrug. “Dunno.”
“The day we... met. I asked you what you wer-”
“I don’t know. My kind doesn’t waste its time on stupid things like specifics.”
“So you only care about eating, then?” And harassing people.
This time, he looked at you. He didn’t even bother trying to hide his smirk.
“I like hunting even more.”
Having a conversation with this creature, you quickly realized, was pointless. If he wanted to torment something, then he’d have to settle for hunting an animal. A wild animal, too, not one from your farm. You huffed and stood up.
“See you tomorrow night.”
“Oh!” he said mockingly. “Are you always going to bless me with your presence?!”
Your face heated up and you cursed your poor word choice. Not wanting to fuel him even more, quickly began leaving, but to your horror, he began following you.
“Who are you? Hey- who are you?”
“I - I’m Y/N! Okay? My name is Y/N. Please-” Just like the last time, he eased off the moment he got the response he was looking for.
“Relax, I’m just messing with you. Now why would I hurt my meal ticket?” He chuckled. When he saw that you were still tense, he held up both of his hands and backed away even more. “I’m sorry, okay? It’s just that your reactions are too funny.”
“I’m upholding our deal. I’m giving you exactly what you want. Why are you being such an asshole?” Wrong thing to say, Y/N. Very wrong.
But to your surprise, he laughed.
“Ah, because I am one!” Then he regarded you for a moment. When he spoke next, you were shocked to hear that he sounded genuine. “Fine, okay then. I’ll start playing nicely.”
You would remain cautious, but... you really didn’t have much of a choice. You were stuck in this deal, and if he insisted on seeing you, then there wasn’t much you could do about it. It would be much wiser to be civil.
“...Alright. Well, I, uh, I’m leaving now.” With all the grace of a newborn deer, you made your leave.
“Goodbye, Y/N!”
When you turned around, he was waiting intently for your reaction. It felt like a test. But you had no idea what response he was expecting. His gaze was making you nervous and you turned yours to the night sky.
I had the visual for this firmly in mind the entire time I was writing and wanted so much to draw it. I had to wait until I finished the actual fic though because I knew if I stopped to draw this I’d probably never finish the original project ha.
I used a wolf spider as inspiration for his spider half, for artwork and behavior. I felt it was more fitting to give him then using the typical web spinner spider since they are active hunters instead of web builders.

Could ya do Gaara x female S/o having a romantic date HC. Maybe they go out for dinner and watch the stars, idk go wild 😫
A Romantic Date
Pairing: Gaara x Reader
Content: Fluff & Stuff
Description: Gaara and Y/N go on their very first date.
When Gaara settled upon his feelings, accepting the fact that he was indeed experiencing the bittersweet taste of true love, he thought that confessing the tales of his heart was the hard part.
He was wrong.
He had a date with you in only a few short hours, and Kankuro around to assist him beforehand.
He was preparing all week. Once he finished his paperwork as the Kazekage, he would leave his office to do something beneficial for tonight.
Kankuro helped him find a nice outfit, make sure his red hair was neat, and told him to be a total douchebag.
Luckily, Gaara was known for his brains, and knew better than to listen to Kankuro when it came to that last piece of advice.
Instead, he was a total romantic.
The night was decently cool, the stars shining bright as you waited for Gaara outside of his office.
In his hand, he had your favorite flowers, giving them to you as his blushy cheeks matched the color of his hair.
You looked so beautiful. He could not glance away from you. He made sure to tell you that.
“I can’t seem to look away from you, Y/N.”
Gaara did not take you to a restaurant. Instead, he took you to his home, where he prepared a lovely, home-cooked meal for the both of you. He was an excellent cook, everything was made perfectly and plated beautifully. He had used ingredients that he had grown himself, and you could taste the amazing difference.
Along with the delicious food, candles were placed lovingly on the dinner table. He went as far as to make dessert, but you were already too full, enjoying yourself so much.
Gaara made sure to keep the conversation happy, intriguing, and positive. He was a more quiet person, therefore, he simply asked you questions and let you tell your stories. He was so interested to learn anything he could about you.
After dinner, you and Gaara washed the dishes together, despite his protests. He packed the dessert you did not eat away for you to take home.
After washing dishes, you noticed how beautiful the stars looked in the sky. Before you knew it, you were pulling on Gaara’s wrist, dragging him outside to see the beautiful galaxy right above your heads.
“The stars are so pretty, aren’t they?” You asked happily, never snatching your eyes away from them.
“They are. As a child, instead of sleeping, I would try to name as many stars as I could.” Gaara smiled to himself over the bittersweet memory.
He pointed up at the biggest, brightest, most beautiful star.
“I think that one should be named after you, Y/N.”
You giggled, leaning over to kiss his cheek. “Who knew you’d turn out to be such a romantic, Gaara?”
He blushed horribly at the feeling of your soft lips brushing gently against the side of his face. His heart pounded, and he looked at you.
He placed a hand over his cheek, his eyes holding nothing but tremendous amounts of love and admiration for you.

The first thing I felt was a tightness; a sense of security. My muscles were at an arrest from the restraints. The bindings glowed silver, stark to the apparent cave. What scared me the most was that I could not get scared. My head was dizzy and my eyes were rolling back, lulling me to endless sleep. I am stuck in a state of calmness, paralyzing me away from feelings of fear. Cocooned, neither my heart nor my head wanted to assess the situation.
One line on the connecting web I lied helplessly on twitched. Then another one after that until it vibrated like plucks of a guitar or that of the beginnings of rainfall on concrete. Overcast by a hulking mass’s shadow, the thing had finally come. Panic did not settle in my heart, as it wrapped securely around me in a feverishly warm bliss with the monster eclipsing the never ending abyss of a ceiling.
The first thing my head could compute was that my abductor was a giant spider. Well, not entirely, but rather a half spider with a drow’s greyish humanoid torso slapped onto it. As my weak eyes fought the heaviness, the stark juxtaposition of the two species combined into one, plus the drugged state, kept me from actually taking in the details of its face. I mean, what are two eyes to their six, black devoid of all light. Except the illuminating silver bindings being reflected in their dark eyes.
This thing was massive, and the more I looked at it, I realized how badly I wanted it to be human. My mind had glossed right over that it had two sets of arms, whilst one of it pushed back their cascading hair of dark blue waves.
“Human are you—”
Their words fell away between the gaps of their web and my consciousness. They said something about my legs, strange.
