Nothing shuts down a bougie conversation like "well, when I was homeless—" Nothing. It's one and done. They are fucking taken out. The conversation is dead. Done.
"there's enough charities in place to help our homeless population"
Well I was turned away from every single one in the area because I was a non Christian trans person. Not that there were many I could make the walk to, to be fair.
"if someone is homeless, they can just forage for food! Probably eating healthier than we are har har har!"
I was homeless in winter. And yeah, sure, I knew how to use pine needles to make tea and boil bark but. Come on. You think every homeless person has that fucking knowledge or resources? And I was homeless on a mountain. What about people who are homeless in cities? What are they going to forage? Gravel? And what about areas where foraging is illegal? You want them to get arrested? In a police state like this?
"well as long as they don't get into trouble, there won't be trouble!"
You make laws criminalizing their existence. The "trouble" they make is surviving. I got the cops called on me because I went for a walk. I had a stick I was using to help me walk because I have a limp and couldn't afford a cane. A fucking white couple saw me and called the cops and told them I was walking "with a rifle" and was "very threatening". I got DAMNED lucky that a Light horseman found me first and told me what happened. Laughed a little. Told me not to worry about it, he'd call it in as bogus, and have a talk with the couple. But again. I was lucky. If that had been a state cop and not a rez one, I could have been fucking shot. For walking.
Honestly, if you are not for the liberation of homeless people, if you are not for decriminalizing homelessness and all aspects of it, if you say things like, "now I support those people, but I wish I didn't have to see it, because it makes me uncomfy," you have swallowed the propaganda pill. Congrats. You were not immune to it and now you are sick with it.
I just want a cute little muse to draw this year who I can dress up and down for my figure drawing sketches.

there is no magic "the new generation will be more progressive as the old one dies" btw history has only had things get better because of people who didn't act like it was inevitable and acted like things needed to get better here and now and that will always be true
there was a whole generation of boomers who fought for a better world, not as many of them survived as the ones who shaped a worse one. generation warfare is not real. they are not , and have never been your enemy for simply being born before you, and as you get older the youth will not be yours because the enemy has always been the ones holding power and abusing it
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.
ok but the onelook thesaurus will save your life, i literally could not live without this website
REBLOG TO SAVE A WRITER'S LIFE
I've already the sirius' pov but I wanted also the original one and can't find any covers who really match with my bookshelf. I'm inspired by the old penguin classics edition and it look so pretty
mc: i like sebastian, thoughts?

You, a fool, when characters state different or contradictory things about backstory events or how the world works: This is a plot hole!
Me, wise, enlightened: Not so, neophyte. Have you considered all the exhaustive possibilities in which one of these characters simply has no idea what they are talking about, or better yet, is a fucking liar?
I'm so extremely serious when I say doctors should be put through an extremely extensive reliscensing process every 10 years. Doctors should have their knowledge scrutinized against current medical research and be de-barred at even the tiniest discrepancy. Too many old doctors absolutely refuse to stay up to date on research and dismiss patients because of their personal experiences. Too many people die every year because doctors don't take us seriously and refuse to listen to people who KNOW something is wrong. Too many people are told their problems are nothing and come back in a year or more with serious illnesses and doctors are just like "lol everyone makes mistakes" but doctors mistakes routinely cost people their lives! I'm tired of medical malpractice being swept away under the guise of "mistakes were made."
If lawyers have to take 20-30 hours of continuing law education classes every single year, doctors should have to go through a reliscencing process every 10.
just occurred to me that tohru's grandfather calling her by her mother's name is almost exactly what tohru herself was doing as a three-year-old: forcefully infusing a piece of the dead person into your vocabulary to remind a loved one of the dead person. tohru did it by deliberately copying her father's speech patterns, while her grandfather faked senility in order to get away with regularly using kyoko's name. tohru's grandpa outright says that he started doing it because tohru looked like she was on the verge of falling apart after her mother's death, which is exactly why toddler tohru started copying her father! it's got me thinking about genetically predisposed habits and generational trauma and how family tends to be alike even without trying.
here's a quick tip for life: if you hate someone and you have a choice in the matter, keep their name out of your mouth and the reasons you hate them out of your head. keep your head on a swivel around people who habitually break this guideline because they're just as capable of obsessive negativity about you
genuinely "living rent-free in your head" is a curse. obessing yourself with people you find odious who don't have the actual power to harm you does nothing good for your life. there is immense strength in walking the fuck away and treating someone as dead to you, not half-living in their shadow.
Who is your dad, now?
I can’t believe she actually murdered her dad on camera

This photo my roommate took of my gerbil belongs in the MoMA
This photo of Earl is getting some notes and it makes me happy - he passed at the end of November last year. I love seeing people look at this photo of him, it’s one of my favorites.
