The GIFT arcs complicated antagonist should have been mephismon on their own, no partner (besides chifuyu, dead) I get what they were going with, with miharu as tomoros parallel. sorry my response got long because I'm mx scattered thoughts. Posted it here instead:

it do, but technically speaking, adventure wizardmon grew up in witchelny, as a magical witch, not a digimon at all. i know witchelny is now treated like a piece of the digital world, but i like to think that is wizardmon's fault. like when they banished him and he transformed into a digimon, it blew back and transformed witchelny as well.

Ah yeah! The adventure novels treat witchelny like a completely different world and do establish that wizardmons file had to be converted so to speak, doesn't it? Iirc. What you say does make sense as an in-universe explanation, especially paired w that one shifting history of the digital world concept?

Now for something neat about your theory though, if one thing got rewritten in-universe, more things may have followed. Like Jason Todd being revived by superboy primes punch back in the day, it automatically created a backstory for him based on him being resurrected.

The original adventure staff seem to keep treating it the original way whenever they approach the whole thing, but the broader canon appears to have retconned the idea of witchelny being completely different, right? 🤔 Personally I don't mind either approach! Either adventure only or broader canon are fine to me.

Concept: if the reality punch of wizardmons travel made witchelny into a digimon world retroactively, it might have rewritten its history, the way the inhabitants conceive themselves, etc. Which would be fun if he remembers the world before it changed, because he wasnt there for the change. That shit happened to my friend Power Girl. He's already meta enough for it to work, I think. "Hey man remember when you were a rookie level" "no because i wasn't?!" "What's that? We remember you as a rookie level"

yes, actually i figured it would be exactly like that! or his memories would be sort of scrambled, like he was never wizardmon until he came to the digital world but now that's the only name he knows for himself, but he also knows he WASN'T wizardmon before, he just can't remember what he was called because that information was overwritten with his conversion.

so then when witchmon comes after him he's like 'who the fuck are you' cuz she looks so different and calls herself something different but then he does remember her based on what she describes, but it is all phrased differently than he remembers. i don't know if it would change things so much that he would actually have been a digimon as a child when he wasn't, but i did figure the thing he was would become a digimon species- but just like his body changed when he became a digimon, the new digimon that is based on what he was as a child is probably not the way he remembers being as a child. (i also think witchmon got her triangle teeth from him- like he was converted first and then his new data was used to rewrite witchelny, and inspired her own changes that she doesn't remember being different from)

So everything changed except him, and he's probably the only being who remembers witchelny as it was? I don't think it would retroactively change the past for him either, but it might change the memories and history of everyone around him. So witchmon wouldn't even remember that she had another name, like he does, and the universal rewrite means she probably remembers being his rival as rookies? Wizardmon has no idea what they are talking about, because he was outside and the rewrite wasn't complete for him, maybe? Which again, rather unfortunate thing to happen to you, to remember a world rewrite even partially. That has certainly driven fictional characters a little (a lot) off the rails before.
