goldie hadn’t been raised to be messy. while her family was far from wealthy, and knew not of the customs of the rich from either the wizarding or muggle world, her mother had always done a fairly decent job at keeping their pink painted home by the brighton shores fairly clean.. however, goldie also took after the men in in her family and their slobbish horrid habits. she was awful at keeping things clean, something that would be even more noticeable than it already was without the help of the hogwarts elves. all in all, she really didn’t give the idea of cleaning much mind.

her hand was stuffed mid scoop in a bag of veggie crips when a voice reached her ears, she looked up, sputtering a strand of gold out of her line of sight. “um,” she stuffed a handful into her mouth, dusting off the crumbs on her sweatsuit once she was on her feet. “surem, icanthelpm.” her crumpled up bag sat on the couch, abandoned. she mimicked joon’s action for a good minute, until she asked: “..why are we doing this, exactly?”

the boy was hopeful he wouldn't have to do this alone, but he was still pleasantly surprised when goldie stood up and started to help him. he didn't want to be a bother - he never wanted to be a bother, it was just something about him that'd never change - but he knew he'd never manage to clean up everything if he did it alone. an extra pair of hands was always useful, especially if the person wasn't doing it unwillingly.

" well, this place is a mess, " joon pointed out, gathering all the plates into a pile and putting them on top of a table, moving on to the cups next and aligning them as well as possible. he wouldn't go as far as take things to the kitchen, but it didn't mean he couldn't organize them a bit. " i think it's fairly rude to make the elves do this amount of cleaning. especially with how they let us eat whenever we want and are always willing to help us out. " it was their job, joonki knew, but it didn't sit too well with him. " i don't know, they already do a lot for us. it's the least we could do, just putting things in one place to make it easier for them. "

bernadette listened intently while joon spoke about his home, smiling a bit as he described it. “i just transferred this year, my last year of school - sometimes i wish my parents had let me stay - but i do like new experiences, i feel so torn..” she mutters, resting her head atop her knees. “i could go back to france, this is true, however - i don’t know. it depends on what my dad is studying. i want to join him after i graduate, maybe study magical creatures in more depth.”

joonki understood the longing for home, but ever since he was a young boy he was told of the possibility of the family having to move somewhere. his father had always worked with international relations and joon knew he had no option before he was of age anyway. " i know you miss it a lot, but i think you should see this as an opportunity, " he pointed out. " we get stuck in our ways if we stay in the same place for too long. if you use this opportunity to learn i think it's going to be good for you. " joon hugged his knees against his chest, resting his chin on them. " is this really what you wanna do? follow in your father's footsteps? "

daphne gave the wizard a rather CURIOUS stare in response to his question before actually answering it. “ well ––– ” she started. “ that’s certainly an INTERESTING question. i’m not even sure where to begin. but i think i’d pass on eating a leaf that fell on my face and stayed there. i’d probably just move it out of the way so it’s not blocking my line of sight. ”

" but what if you were hungry? " the girl's answer made complete sense, but there was still something bothering him about the situation. the more rational and less affected part of his brain was yelling at him that it was because of the effects of the toxic smoke. however, joon didn't pay it any mind. " maybe that leaf is the only source of nutrients you'll be able to find. " he scratched the side of his nose. " does this make sense? "

footfalls slowly come to a stop when someone talks to her, blinking caramel eyne to slowly look back at the source behind a little offer : vera looks … FRANTIC , with a panting visage and reddened freckled cheeks, with dolcé, her elegant, but also mischievious white persian that had her chasing her for TWENTY minutes, pressed against and ample. she parts crimson lips when she finally recognizes the hufflepuff’s offer, but said nothing because she was still trying to gain her breath ! dolcé spoke for her, though, meowing at the boy as a ‘ yes ! my human is going to die if she doesn’t eat something ! ’ “ … what—- what kind of cookie is it ? ”

before the words were even out of his mouth joonki had already noticed the state the girl was in. he bit down on his lower lip to keep from giggling, eyes drifting from the slytherin's face to the beautiful cat she had with her. his fingers itched to touch the animal, but the girl's voice pulled him out of it. " pumpkin, to go with the theme of the season and whatnot, " joon's smile was back in full force, though it fell a bit when he actually took in her state. " do you want some water? you look like you need it more than you need cookies."

claramae had looked up from her book, her finger held above her cuppa mid stir. earthen hues danced between the box joon held and his facial features for a moment; she smiled. “of course!” she smoothed her hands over the back of her uniform skirt, sliding over a few inches to make way for the wizard. she tucked any loose hair behind her ears; the rest was gathered behind her green satin bow.

to the right of her, one of her housemates, muffy, was gossiping about some news she’d heard about some famous wrock artist. to the left of them, two of her housemates were locked in a heated match of wizard’s chess. in front of her, one of her quidditch teammates was looking over a schedule she’d just past them. none of them were paying the pair any mind. all in all, slytherin’s table wasn’t that different from the other houses. though claramae understood the stigma her house possessed– especially as a halfblooded witch. still, the past almost seven years had showed her that slytherin had good and bad traits, same as the other houses displayed ( but got away with, as far as she was concerned. )

“what’s all this?” she asked, picking a biscuit off her plate; it was rare that any meal passed and she went without some sort of baked treat. she flicked her free index finger against the box, her giggles intermingling along the chatter of her housemates.

joon liked claramae. there was something inherently charming about her and joonki was far from being hard to please - as long as the person treated others well, him included, they were likely to be on his good side. it didn't mean he was stupid or too trusting, as much as hufflepuffs seemed to carry that fame, it just meant he wasn't too judgemental. claramae was just like him in a way. they were both children of prominent, important people and were, therefore, expected to act a certain way and not cross any lines. it wasn't at all grueling for him to take a seat by her side.

" i'm sorry if i'm bothering you, " he voiced his main concern, tapping his fingers against the box. " it's just that it's chuseok week - it's a korean holiday, " joon tackled in an explanation, knowing it wasn't very likely for most people here to know about the holiday's existence. " it's kind of tradition to give out food during it and mom was bored. she decided to cook, like she does every year, and send it to everybody she knows. "

the boy let out a chuckle, sliding over the box. " it's probably kimchi. it's a side dish, but it's really tasty. mom is a really good cook, even though she often makes stuff far too spicy for my taste and... " he trailed off, feeling a pang in his heart - joon missed his mom, it was inevitable that sometimes that ache would come up. the hufflepuff shook his head. " you don't have to accept it, though, of course. "

joonki was well aware that students weren't necessarily supposed to be in the kitchen, unless they were part of the culinary club - however, that rule was something that hufflepuffs in particular were very famous for completely disregarding. this time, though, it was for a good cause. joon had seen a recipe for pumpkin cookies he'd been dying to test. the house elves loved him and didn't hesitate to let him do it in the kitchen, even petting his head and giving him compliments when the result was better than he expect, both causing his cheeks to burn at the praise.

and now? now the boy was walking around the school offering cookies to whoever passed by him. some people took it with a smile on their faces, others completely ignored him or sent him weirded out glares, but that wasn't anything he wasn't used to. he just kept going, offering the treats to everybody he came across. “ hi, would you like a cookie? ” joon said to the slytherin girl.

it was inevitable that growing up with three older sisters had shaped joonki, in a way or another. he found that it was extremely stereotypical, but being practically raised by his mother and his sisters made it so that he had hobbies most boys around his age did not. joon didn't really care - they were good for relieving stress and getting a few judgemental looks wasn't enough of a reason for him to quit doing them. at the moment, though, it was a bit of an inconvenience knitting in class, what with the amount of things already occupying his desk. joon was finished with the class assignment already and without really knowing whether the girl sitting next to him was as well, he poked her in the arm. “ would you mind holding this for me for a bit? ” he asked, offering her the yarn while holding the sweater he was knitting in the other hand.

joonki loved his house. he loved that there was very little issues amongst the hufflepuffs - they were all inherently understanding people. others assumed that this meant they were doormats, but it was more in the lines of them trying to be as respectful as possible, and expecting the same treatment to be given to them. that said, it was undeniable that a bunch of teenagers together would lead to a lot of messiness around the dorms and the common rooms and sure, there were house elves whose job was to guarantee the place was clean, but it never sat well with joon to just leave his own mess for others to clean.

albeit being exhausted enough after a long day, to the point where he knew there was no chance he could do magic without messing things up, joonki put down his bag next to one of the couches and started gathering the cups and plates spread around the place. their common room being next to the kitchen was a big advantage at times, but tonight joon was resenting it a bit. the room was empty except for one other person and joonki called out to them. “ hi, would you mind helping me out with these? ”

herbology was all fun and games until you spent the entire day helping the professor out with vasing some plants that let out a toxic sort of smoke. professor sprout hadn't told him exactly what that smoke did, but if the fogginess in his head was any indication, joon had a decent enough idea. “ If a leaf fell on your face and stayed there, would you eat it? ” he found himself asking the girl, the words stumbling out of his mouth before he could fight them.

there was hesitancy in his steps as he made his way towards the slytherin table. most of the people in that house didn't really have any issues with him - for one, he was not a gryffindor so the house animosity wasn't there, and it didn't hurt that he was a pureblood either or that his father was a famous figure. the less reasons for people to hate him, the easier it was for joonki to navigate school without getting into trouble, like some of his housemates and classmates did. still, that knowledge didn't help ease his nerves as he approached the other house's table.

as expected, nobody really minded him, so he kept walking as if he belonged there, clutching the box he was carrying to his chest. joon didn't understand the necessity his mother had to mail him gifts to give to people, but it probably had something to do with the longing she felt for the time when she still was occupied playing mother twenty four hours a day. it was cute and joon didn't really mind it, but it'd save him a lot of embarrassment if she sent the gifts straight to the recipients.

joon came into a halt once he found himself standing in front of the person he was seeking. clearing out his throat to get her attention, he forced a smile into his lips. “ claramae, hi, ” joon was charming, he knew how to be charming - it was something he was taught. “ may i sit here? ”

before taking the shot, joon dipped his finger into the glass, bringing it up to his mouth and licking it clean. he furrowed his brow at the taste, turning to the person sat next to him. “ was the butterbeer supposed to have alcohol in it? ”

bernadette was thrilled when joon engaged with her. pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her elbow on her knee, nettie settled in for what she hoped was a long conversation. “i think…i miss the atmosphere the most..does that make sense? there was just…it just felt different, i don’t know.” she sighed, giving up on the english language for a few moments. “My mom keeps say ing petit a petit, l’oiseau fait son nid, or little by little the bird makes its nest..and i’m trying to adjust, but my heart is in france…what about you? what do you miss most about korea?”

“ yeah i- i totally understand what you mean, ” even just talking about it brought an ache to his chest. no matter how well you can bring yourself to adapt to being somewhere else, that place was never going to be home. joonki was lucky and he knew it - he had a good family, a good place to call home. “ i've been here for two years already, but there's always a feeling, almost like yearning in the back of my mind. ” joon knew he could go back to korea as soon as he graduated, but even then he was starting to have second thoughts about it. “ i miss the food. i miss the rest of my family, i miss the beach - busan, where i lived when i didn't have classes, is a beautiful city that looks gorgeous during every season. ” he let out a sigh, a sad smile painting his face. “ we're graduating soon, you can go back to france then, can't you? ”

joon would be lying if he said he was paying attention to the book he should be reading, so bernadette starting a conversation was more than welcome. he looks up, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "i don't think i was given an option not to," he points out. "but it's difficult, yes. there weren't as many students there, not to mention there were different expectations when it came to us." joon smiles sadly. "i miss korea. what do you miss the most, though?"
