"Kiss?"
She was medicated, she was high and she was out of bed. He caught her the moment she’d tripped over her IV bag and she’d merely giggled in response before dragging him towards the door.
"Kiss?"
He’d needed the night out, to let himself go and forget anything and everything around him. Seoul’s night life had never been his cup of tea but after losing two patients on the same day, Lee Jonghyun was ready to embrace the usual rowdy bars and gorge on whatever they were passing for alcohol these days.
Kiss?
He was never really good at Truth or Dare.
"Kiss?"
His lips were against Taekwoon's before he allowed himself to give into second thoughts.
"Kiss?" .v.
The impending arrival of Christmas often signified the shortage of food in many households, Jonghyun's included which is why he found himself at a local stall full of home grown vegetables and staple foods, so engrossed in the food around him, he barely took in the sights; including the people around him.

Kiss?
He felt her slender hand wrap itself around his wrist, the medical chart in his hand now long forgotten as he’s led towards the doorway of his office where the mistletoe hung; a little joke from his seniors in an effort to force him to unwind, claiming that he needed a little fun.
I Owe Him a Debt || Jonghyun & Sunny
Jonghyun couldn’t help but allow a smile to grace his face the second he spotted her perched on one of the remaining barstools, deeply engrossed in her thoughts. Soonkyu or rather, Sunny – as she’d told him, more like ordered him, to call her when he’d first met her – had over time grown from someone whose life he had saved to someone he could call his friend; though the occasional banter and flirtatious smiles they'd exchanged had paved the way for the potential for something more.
Either way, the good doctor rather enjoyed the older woman’s company be it her comparable optimism in this hellhole of a world or the way her laughter had the power to light up the whole room. He remembered all those nights he spent at her bedside in the hospital, allowing her to pull him away from the darkness, from the weight of what he’d endured with a few stories and a joke here and there; it was no surprise that they’d promised to stay in touch after she’d been discharged.
“Noona,” he called out with a grin, the honorific playfully rolling off his tongue and catching her attention, his smile evolving into a grin as he bowed the second their eyes met; impishly adding to the jest. He’d spotted the drink in her hand, half empty, and a pang of guilt surged through him; his lack of a social life wasn’t without reason, he was a slave to his work after all, as so many had already pointed out. He watched her get up and within moments they’d wrapped their arms around each other with a small laugh, “It’s good to see you,” he managed as they pulled apart, he found it hard to wipe the smile of his face even as he nodded towards the half empty glass, “I’m picking up payment for the next one… It’s bad manners to keep the elderly waiting.”
Ever the tease.

[Meta] Dating is hard to do in this world. However, if Jonghyun wanted to ask someone out how would he ask and what might they do?
ooc:
First off, I pity whoever decides to fall for Jonghyun because this idiot is completely and utterly terrible at being a boyfriend; putting work before relationships, often forgetting important events and what not even though deep down he does want to do all those things.
It’s a good thing he’s cute as heck.
Jonghyun doesn’t skirt around subjects, he’s pretty straight forward so in the event that he’s interested in someone he’ll approach them and just go for it; “Do you want to go out with me?” throw in a smirk followed by a charming smile and let’s be honest, it’ll be pretty hard to say no.
What he lacks, he always makes up for with his gall and his sincerity… And the fact that he can be a little flirt when he wants to be because Jonghyun is pretty self-aware of his looks and others interested in him.
Your muse leads mine under the mistletoe. send me "Kiss?" for my muse's reaction.

Between the Lines || Jonghyun & Min
Min had quickly come to realize how easy it was to catch the doctor off guard. She wasn’t one to joke around much, especially not with her line of work, but here, in her home, she found herself more relaxed than usual and it didn’t help that Jonghyun smiled at her so easily. Outside of her bookstore, she would never have this luxury and even now, after so many visits, Min knew that she could only have these small moments of normalcy while the Doctor simply saw her as the girl who ran the bookstore. So she indulged herself in these moments, just like she did whenever she accepted any of the candy that he brought. It’s just a small break is what she always told herself even if she thought his open mouthed surprise was a little cute.
“I thought our business relationship was built on mutual trust.”
Raising an eyebrow at Jonghyun’s words, she leaned against the countertop, keeping her face blank as he tried to find his words. In any other situation and she would’ve had a biting response ready for anyone who tried questioning her business ethic. She was a thief but she kept all her deals honest -it’s what secured all her business contacts over the years. But all she could focus on was the quick flash of hurt over losing the manga collection that he loved more than he let on and the ways his eyes dropped. Too easy. For all his smiles, the good Doctor still needed to learn how to unwind.
“Uh huh. Mutual trust,” she replied, emphasizing her words with air quotations before crossing her arms. “Your face says otherwise, Doc,” she said, feigning hurt as she turned to look away from him even though his sheepish expression had another smile tugging at her lips. She couldn’t help teasing him a bit as he continued to stare at her in wide-eyed surprise before he shut his mouth and his eyes narrowed just a bit as understanding hit him. “You’re lucky you brought the chocolate along. If not, I don’t think I could forgive you for this.”
“How can I continue to conduct our business when I’m in constant fear of losing my manga collection?”
Shaking her head in laughter, she matched his light tone as she approached Jonghyun. “I think I’ve been keeping up my end of our business relationship pretty well… or do you have a complaint to file against me?,” she mused out loud, cocking her head to the side as she eyed the Doctor. “Either way, I guess you’re just gonna have to take a leap of faith, Doc,” she warned with a shrug before popping another piece of chocolate into her mouth.
Her words felt like a dangerous suggestion even though she couldn’t pinpoint exactly why. Trust was not something she really believed in. Need. Desperation. Greed. Those she understood. This is what motivated most of her clients and if she could figure out what pushed them, she had no problem dealing to them. But she hadn’t been able to completely pinpoint Jonghyun’s motivations especially whenever his face lit up at some comment she’d made. Or maybe it was more that she hadn’t figured out her own stake in this business relationship. He always managed to throw her off kilter when she was around him and even though it miffed her, she still continued to encourage his talks. So that’s why she resorted to teasing and prodding, instead of demanding a straight answer. It was easier than having to consider things too deeply.
“Oh. Well if I told you that. I’m afraid I’ll have to kill you… More for me, that way.”
Blinking repeatedly as his words caught her off guard, she just snorted as he finished the line with a pleased little hum as he bit into the chocolate. He’d avoided her question much like she’d avoided a lot of his questions in the past but she didn’t actually care considering how amusing his threat really was. Jonghyun seemed like the type that had never killed anyone even though he was a soldier. “You’re really gonna have to work on the threats -especially if you wanna keep your stash. Doctors aren’t the most intimidating bunch,” she said, giving him a quick once over with a raised eyebrow to further cement her verdict. “But hey at least you’re trying, right?”
“That’s the best new I’ve heard in a long time. I didn’t think any copies had survived… This mess.”
Sobering up a bit, she followed his gaze, listening to the sorrow in his voice as his voice trailed off, captivated by all the books before him. She’d never been much of a reader -not having the time to sit around and read books; not even when she was a kid. Even though she’d been able to attend school while her dad had still been alive, she’d always space out during her lessons - thinking about her next patrol with her dad instead of the history lessons from before the outbreak that they were forced to listen to. School hadn’t really mattered much to her -not when her dad was constantly reminding her that all that mattered was the moment they were living in. The past was done and he’d never tried giving her any guarantees for the future, so Min went along with his teachings -focusing on her survival instead of anything else.
That’s how she’d come across the bookstore in the first place. She figured that it was a completely safe and boring place to live in. She didn’t think anyone would come and bother her in a rat nest mess of dusty old books. To her, they didn’t have any practical value besides tinder and considering that the bookstore was stuck in what was now a more or less residential area, she was pretty sure she’d be safe from any looters.
What she hadn’t expected was the random book lovers that had started to wander in. There was so much respect in their expressions whenever they handled the books with their yellowed pages, that Min couldn’t turn them away, accepting their offers to trade as she listened to them speak fondly of whatever book they had picked up. She hadn’t even realized when she’d started to reconsider the bookstore. Instead of pushing of piles of books to make more space to move through, she started trying to sort through the massive collection; thumbing through a few that caught her eye and forming her own personal collection. So maybe that’s why her voice matched his low tones as she traced patterns on the books he’d left on the counter. “I think that’s why the old owner hoarded all these books. Guess he wanted to make sure they survived. It’s all that really left from before…” Trailing off, she just shook her head. She couldn’t share in his nostalgia… not really. It wasn’t something that she was used to feeling so instead she turned to the stairs, heading towards her office.
“Are you that eager to get rid of me, Min?”
Not bothering to turn around as she skipped the third step and side stepped a box full of atlases, Min just hummed to herself instead of answering Jonghyun directly. It was her turn to avoid his question especially as she took in that cocky raise of his eyebrow. Nope. She was just going to let him mull over that question all on his own.
Thump.
Pausing on the steps, she turned to find Jonghyun sprawled across the staircase, a few dictionaries having toppled on his back as he slowly squirmed on the steps before muffling a low groan. Clutching on to the stair rail for support, she just laughed as Jonghyun glowered at the treacherous books, pushing them aside before pouting up at her.
“These books are going to catch you off guard one of these days. Ji-Hae would gladly offer his help if you asked him.”
"I think my booby trap is perfect. No one knows how to get up these stairs besides me. So I’ll have plenty of time to deal with any attacks before they even reach the second floor,” she said as she caught her breath, making her way back down to help him up. “Plus if I asked Ji-hae to help, I’d never get him out of the store. He’s already made himself a little cave full of comic books over by the corner. I don’t want to give the brat anymore ideas.” Not that Ji-hae actually annoyed her considering he always brought over a hard boiled egg or two but she just knew that the 10 year old would just tackle hug and chatter at her non-stop if she ever offered him a job. And Min liked her peace and quiet a little too much to actively deal with him.
Crouching on the step above Jonghyun, she just peered at the doctor who was frozen on the steps; not even noticing how close she’d gotten. Frowning as she idly wondered if he’d actually hurt himself when he fell, she reached out for his cheek and turned his face towards her. Running her fingertips along the bump on his forehead to inspect the damage, she just clicked her tongue as she brushed away his hair. “Well good news is that you’ll survive. Bad news is that it looks like you’re gonna have a nasty bruise.” Leaning in closer as she noticed the glazed look in his eyes, she bit the inside of the cheek, wondering if it was possible to be stunned by a couple of books. “Hey, Jonghyun…you okay?”
Pausing as he spoke under her breath, she just poked at his forehead to break him out of whatever moment he had lost himself in. Smiling wryly as his eyes snapped up to meet hers, she just offered him a hand as she stood up. "I have no idea what you’re muttering about, but it looks like it was that book that caught your attention."
“Uh huh. Mutual trust. Your face says otherwise, Doc,”
She was humoring him, that much was clear from the playful twinkle in her eyes and the way she feigned a hurt expression; no one else would dare talk to him or tease him the way she did, they always saw the uniform, the name and put their walls up but Min, she was different, whether she didn’t know or simply chose not to care he wasn’t sure but of one thing he was certain, that nickname was definitely beginning to grow on him.
Especially with that look on her face when the name left her mouth. So he found the corners of his own mouth quirking up when he’d composed himself – now knowing that his manga collection was as safe as it could be – watching the girl move with an almost intricate gracefulness of a dancer before the words finally left him, “I trust you,” they were laced with sincerity, his eyes transfixed upon her frame and yet as he pursed his lips almost thoughtfully, the mischievousness dripping from the words now he could help but follow up on his words with a faux innocent almost puppy-like expression, “Don’t you trust me, Min?”
Two could play at that game.
“You’re lucky you brought the chocolate along. If not, I don’t think I could forgive you for this.” He watched her devour the chocolate with almost inhuman speed, probably out of fear of him taking another piece; she wasn’t far off if she’d assumed just that, he was tempted and rightly so, the chocolate looked delicious. “I wouldn’t want that,” he continued, musing with a little tilt of his head, “I’ll tell my suppliers to keep them in stock,” as if he’d ever be able to come across another chocolate bar; they were a rarity in this world now, he’d all but forgotten what chocolate cake tasted like.
“I think I’ve been keeping up my end of our business relationship pretty well… or do you have a complaint to file against me? Either way, I guess you’re just gonna have to take a leap of faith, Doc.” The words were far from a lie and it was part of the reason why he kept coming back here, the allure of the books and its owner however, definitely made it harder for him to say no. “Sometimes it’s your only available transportation,” he hadn’t even realized he’d said the words out loud until he caught the look of blank confusion on the young girl’s face, he merely shook his head in response and chuckled to himself, his hair falling across his forehead in the process only to be pushed back the moment he ran his fingers through them. Sometimes, you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall, wasn’t that how it went?
It was certainly the thought that kept him going after everything he’d been through; he’d witnessed betrayal at the heart of it, brothers turning on brothers, loved ones killing each other just to survive and yet he didn’t let the world harden him as it did others. He wasn’t stupid, he knew better than to blindly put his faith in people but at the end of the day, he knew he couldn’t give up on them.
Humanity would endure; it had to.
“You’re really gonna have to work on the threats -especially if you wanna keep your stash. Doctors aren’t the most intimidating bunch. But hey at least you’re trying, right?”
Her words elicited a hearty laugh out of him, the implication of her words more amusing to him than her; after all, he’d been dubbed the Ice King by almost everyone in the hospital for his threats in the operating room, and his intimidating stature that sent half the interns running with their tails tucked between their legs, if only they could hear her now. “I’m nothing if not open to advice on the subject,” he offered before continuing, following her up the staircase now, “I’ll work on my stone cold glare in the meantime,” the imitation that followed was more of a growl, with his crinkled nose and bared teeth, it was more cute than menacing, “I’d like to think I’m almost there,” his subtle teasing had gone over her head and rightly so, for she knew nothing about him save for how he was inside the walls of the bookstore, and yet he couldn’t help but allow a little knowing smirk to appear on his face to keep himself from laughing out loud yet again.
"I think my booby trap is perfect. No one knows how to get up these stairs besides me. So I’ll have plenty of time to deal with any attacks before they even reach the second floor.”
The involuntary groan that escaped his lips was probably enough to send Min laughing, Jonghyun on the other hand appreciated the thought that went into what could only be described as the controlled chaos around him. Traps set around one’s home had become common practice now even inside the military district where more perished due to random thefts or break-ins, Jonghyun himself had set up two traps of his own in the music store which in itself was almost impenetrable, save for the entrance that led upstairs. He found it odd that she, a woman living out of a bookstore, had gone to such great lengths to protect herself but he brushed the thought away just as quickly, pushing himself up and settling himself on the stairs. “I think your booby trap almost broke my spine,” he pursed his lips, exaggerating of course as evident from his tone, he could feel a bump and the odd bruise here and there but he paid no attention to it.
No, the book that had caught his attention had him entranced, he’d barely even heard Min’s following words or the sound of her subsequent footsteps. “Well good news is that you’ll survive. Bad news is that it looks like you’re gonna have a nasty bruise.” By the time he’d registered her presence next to him, she was already running her fingers along a bump on her forehead; a simple action yet one that drew an unexpected reaction from the young doctor, shaking him out of his reverie until his eyes locked upon the young girl’s. He could feel her warm breath prickling his skin, sending Goosebumps forming along his body, he barely even noticed the boyish smile on his face as he continued to study hers; a mixture of exasperation and what he hoped was apprehension. Her fingers brushed back his out of place hair, stilling his body, his breath, until his teeth gently nibbled on the skin of his lips, a habit he’d picked up since childhood and the source of his rather torn mouth. “Looks like it was worth it,” he murmured almost as if talking to himself, his gaze leaving hers the moment she spoke up again and breaking whatever it was that had transpired between them only a moment ago.
“Hey, Jonghyun…you okay?”
Was he? He wondered as his eyes flitted back to the book; he’d almost forgotten that it was still in his grasp. The emotional weight of that singular item began pushing down on him again, the pain flashing through his eyes until all he could do to keep himself was afloat was to put it aside until it blended in with the others; out of sight, out of mind. “Yeah, I’m fine,” his eyes still remained fixed on the place where the book now rested, I’m not fine… I miss him. I regret so much and it stands against everything I believe in. I shouldn’t look back on the past, I should be focused on what lies ahead of me.
"I have no idea what you’re muttering about, but it looks like it was that book that caught your attention."
It was no surprise that she’d called him out on his rather strange behavior and so as he took the hand she offered, he gave her a small smile, fake as it was before speaking up, “It’s nothing,” his eyes said otherwise but he knew she wouldn’t push him any further, not that he’d grant her the opportunity to, “So about those books?” He finished, allowing himself to be pulled up by her. For a someone who spent half of her time tending to books, Min had a grip as strong as any soldier he’d trained against which was partially what had caught him off guard – the rest very well could’ve been attributed to his rather clumsy footing – and off balance yet again. This time as he tripped over the last stair however, it seemed that the bookkeeper was destined to fall with him as gravity took hold of them sending them falling onto the beginning of the staircase with a gasp of surprise and a grunt emitting from the two.
In an attempt to salvage what was left of his dignity, the doctor had wrapped his arms around the young girl, maneuvering her and practically shielding her from the brunt of the collision as she landed on top of him, almost effectively pinning him to the wooden floor. He could feel her panting above her, no doubt the effect of the adrenaline surging through both of their bodies, his insides screaming at him to check for bruises on her yet he couldn’t bring himself to move, not that he could with her on top. Instead he found his hands unlocking themselves from around her, gently tilting her chin up to meet her eyes and assess her face for a hint of a scratch, “It seems like your books have a vendetta against the two of us,” he spoke after what felt like an eternity, his voice a low murmur combined with the smirk that had appeared on his lips, “Are you alright?” He couldn’t speak for her but his back was definitely going to feel the effects of their encounter in an hour’s time.
